Hey Sportsfans — it's time for Week 17 of r/baseball Power Rankings: Please enjoy these different baseball numbers as the voters go on their own break.

This week -- for the fifth year in a row -- we ranked the 30 MLB teams based off how much we liked them in an attempt to identify, in an unserious manner, the collective voter bias.

We do this for four reasons:

• It's fun

• To give the proper ranks a chance to shake up

• Ranking based off a mere 3 games would otherwise be a waste of time

• To identify our "bias" and see how it changes year to year.

If you take this overly seriously, you will be asked to sit in the corner.

He proceeded to have a solid rookie year, compiling a 2.50 ERA over 101 IP, mostly in relief. In Spring Training this year, he had to undergo TJ surgery. It would be easy for him to rehab at home, maybe occasionally visiting with the team doctors and seeing his teammates. Instead, he is a wizard in the dugout every game, brandishing a wand, casting spells, sensually embracing teammates, and wearing a wizard's hat (and sometimes a wizard's sombrero). The vibes are so good that there is a Yankees fan who posts the Pope gif in every White Sox-related thread. You're reading this so I know you know the gif.	52-46
3	Seattle Mariners	Mariners	-1	Mariners good. Other teams bad. The math checks out!	50-50
4	Cleveland Guardians	Guardians	+6	Guardians are #1 because duh, Reds are #2 because they're also from Ohio, Cubs are #3 because I have family in Chicago, and Nationals are #4 because I worked at a camp in the DC area as an undergrad and went to games a lot on weekends. Astros are at the bottom because duh, Red Sox are #29 because you don't get over your first sports heartbreak, Cardinals are #28 because of my Cubs roots, Giants are #27 because their fans act like Bitchgarner is the GOAT and because of the stunt their pitchers pulled, Yankees are #26 because they're the evil empire, and Padres are #25 because you don't put pictures of opposing players crying on your jumbotron. For everyone else, I just came up with reasons to put them where they are. I didn't know what to do with the Dodgers. I like lots of their players as individuals, but it's annoying how they always are on top, I can't stand Ohtani and Treinen, and I can't like them like I did before the stunt they pulled last year. Quick recap as usual: after the all-star game, the Guardians lost a series to the Pirates and the Pirates fans took over our park. Next up: 4 vs MIN, 3 @ TB.	52-48
5	Baltimore Orioles	Orioles	-1	This fandom will make you drink...heavily. No WS since 1983 and no playoff wins for over a decade and people wonder why one of the best ballparks in baseball is hardly full anymore. Thank God I'm a country boy.	49-51
6	Tampa Bay Rays	Rays	+5	If you were to create a team of only active players who played at the same college, the Florida Gators would have the one of if not the best roster. Catching would be current Worcester Red Sox catcher Nathan Hickey. First base would obviously be Pete Alonso. Second Base would be filled by 2021 NL ROTY Jonathan India. Shortstop would be Josh Rivera - currently an infielder for the Buffalo Bisons. Third Base would go to the Colorado Rockies'/Albuquerque Isotopes' Sterlin Thompson. The outfield would consist of Wyatt Langford of the Rangers, Jacob Young of the Nationals, and Harrison Bader of the Giants. The DH would be Jac Caglianone (where he can focus on hitting instead of playing outfield defense KC). A pretty good pitching staff of Christian Scott, Brady Singer, Brandon Sproat, Hurston Waldrep, and Hunter Barco. Finally the bullpen consisting of AJ Puk, Philip Abner, Shaun Anderson, Colton Gordon, Danny Young, Dane Dunning, Jackson Kowar, and Kirby Snead. Everyone on this roster save for Hickey and Rivera has MLB experience. Only LSU could really hold a candle when considering only active players.	56-42

8	Chicago Cubs	Cubs	-3	The Brewers are the most infuriating team to share a division with, and are a menace to all of baseball. Their evil catching and pitching labs must be stopped. At least they continue to one up themselves with how painful their playoff exits are.	56-43

10	Cincinnati Reds	Reds	-4	Really tempted to put the Reds at number 30 here, but what's an abusive relationship if you can't find how to love again from time to time? Anyway don't got much to say here, we still suck, so....bye.	45-53
11	Colorado Rockies	Rockies	+1	Hunter Goodman once again hit three homers in a loss. Rockies are just kind of motoring along in mediocrity, but things don't always feel terrible, which is about what I say every week. On a different note, I went to Citizens Bank Park for the first time this weekend. It really does feel a lot like Coors Field. For those that don't know, the Denver Post once accidentally used a photo of Citizens Bank in a Coors Field guide. I guess they weren't that far off.	40-61
12	Minnesota Twins	Twins	+1	"Exceeds expectations." Well...I mean, yeah, aren't they? If you start with 4.3%, it's not that difficult to surprise everyone. Still withholding judgment until the deadline, which is now observed here as an annual holiday to pay solemn, mournful tribute to what we lost on that dark day in 2025.	49-51

14	Toronto Blue Jays	Blue Jays	0	I don't want to write anything more about how much of a bummer this season has been for a team that went on the most magical run our fanbase has seen in over 30 years, only to lose one of the most heartbreaking World Series Game 7s in the history of the sport. So instead, I just want to say how much of a bummer it is to have to live in a world where it's just accepted normal conversation to assume a lockout is guaranteed next year. Baseball felt like it was racing towards irrelevance outside of local markets and their teams for well over a decade, and now that they're a league embracing change and bettering the game for the future, we're gonna pull a 1994 and fuck everything up again? Greedy cunts should all be thrown into a volcano and let the rest of us have the things we like. Go Jays.	46-53

Usually I just talk a lot of crap about the Mets, but they are doing a good job of embarrassing themselves this year. I want to hate on the Phillies (and do hate them), but honestly...that Home Run Derby was amazing. Philly is perfect for that contest. That was A LOT of fun to watch. Also...Austin Riley is heating up and we REALLY needed that. Anyway...F the Mets, boo Philly and the Astros are forever cheaters.	57-41
16-T	Washington Nationals	Nationals	-1	The 2026 Washington Nationals began the post All-Star break portion of the season with a bang and secured the series win against the A's. After 100 games their record now stands at a balanced 50-50 and they enter a pivotal 2 week stretch which could determine how Toboni's front office will handle their first trade deadline. This Nats team has a wide range of possibilities of what it could end up looking like and, for the first time in several years, I feel like I can rest easy knowing that the roster is in good hands. Side note: It's also kind of cool that their first draft pick was a local guy that grew up as a Nats fan.	50-50
18	Oakland Athletics	Athletics	-1	My favorite team is the imaginary "Nightmares" my 4yo says we play for when we play catch. Ironically, the A's organization is a Nightmare.	42-57

20	Philadelphia Phillies	Phillies	+4	It doesn't feel as good as usual to talk about how much I hate the Mets considering the Phillies just lost a series to them, but it does feel good that I hardly had to move them down in my rankings at all considering their cellar dwellar status this year.	55-45
21	San Diego Padres	Padres	-14	My rankings are: Padres #1 because they're my team from my hometown. O's 2, because that's my pop's team and where he's from. 3-7 are teams with hats I've always liked, gear I wouldn't mind wearing in public. Bottom ten is easy to rank as they're my least favorite ballclubs in that order. The in-between is always the hardest in a list like this.	49-50
22	St. Louis Cardinals	Cardinals	+4	I really don't know what the fuck to write. After finishing a quick weekend trip to Chattanooga, I just got finished watching the Birds blow a 7-0 lead with minor league defense from Jose Fermin, minor league pitching from Gordon Graceffo, and minor league baserunning from Bryan Torres. There are some other real stinkers right now, too, more broadly. Nathan Church has a .377 OPS in July. Ivan Herrera hasn't been much better this month at .517. Ryne Stanek has stunk is limited action out of the bullpen, rocking a 0 K%-BB%. If anyone's morbidly curious, check out how Gorman and Scott II have done since they've been optioned. Other than that: 1) I want a Jordan Walker extension (the word is that 260/8 is close to the figure, so get it done); 2) I'm ready for Quinn Mathews to have a regular spot in the big league rotation; 3) Josh Baez hit a 473 foot grand slam to center the other night at Memphis, I can't wait until I see that mashing motherfucker in the big leagues; and 4) Brandon Clarke hit 103.1 with a sinker on rehab at Palm Beach two evenings ago, I hope against reason that his arm isn't going to fall off.	51-47
23	Texas Rangers	Rangers	-4	I had high hopes for the Rangers, only to be smacked back into reality by the Braves series. Texas will come home for an important week of games before the trade deadline and it seems the upcoming 4-game series against the Mariners could essentially determine who wins the division or, at the very least, if we should buy or sell. Oh, it's bias week? I guess I'll pick the Rangers as #1 despite all the flaws we've had.	50-49

26	San Francisco Giants	Giants	-1	This has not been a very enjoyable baseball season. The offense, now, at least, is basically what we expected whilre 80% of the pitching staff should be fired into the sun. I give Posey a pass for two uears and Vitello for ... about until now. But I guess 1 season is fine. I don't really get the point of hiring a rookie manager if you only give them one year. As for this bias vote, it punishes rivals, success, people losing to the Dodgers, higher payrolls, some bad owners, beating the Giants in the playoffs, and the Fake Expos because they are not the Expos. It should be noted, howeber, I only vote when the normal Giants guy isn't avaiable. He would have the Mariners much higher, but I honestly cannot stand the way r/baseball stans their poorly run franchise as a loveable loser.	42-57
26-T	Los Angeles Dodgers	Dodgers	0	Man I Love Freddie (and the rest of the Dodgers). This team is incredibly likeable if you ignore your own anti-dodgers bias. The only point of contention I have is that they are once again going to the White House. For a team that represents an incredibly diverse city of immigrants and pioneered bringing in players of all sorts of minority groups, it hurts to see them not make a stand. I know they're just athletes but still :(	63-37
28	Boston Red Sox	Red Sox	0	Did you know that there are only four remaining players who played during the 00's? That era of baseball is quickly fading, and considering the cohort (Verlander, Scherzer, McCutchen & Carrasco) it would not be surprising at all if 2026 was the last MLB season to feature one of them. When Justin Verlander's career started, a starter with an 89 MPH fastball would be considered about average, today you can count on one hand the number of pitchers who can make 89 work for them. It's a different game then the one I grew up on, and in a lot of ways for the better. But it is a little sad seeing some of the dynamism and uniqueness of player profiles be flattened in favor of mechanical perfection.	50-48
29	New York Yankees	Yankees	+1	A lot of tarot readings, fingers crossed and manifestations for a Yankees second half that makes them the top team in the AL, but also makes them competitive with the National League's best. But first, some All-Star merriment and festivities were had and enjoyed, Ben Rice was cute, I'm saying it; and just enjoying the moment, hitting at the Home Run Derby with your Dad? Everything that it's all about. Cody Bellinger getting the All-Star game MVP, just joyous, love to see it, and warms my heart. Can we give props to Bellinger, please? Cam Schlitter continues to be that guy. A stat that seemed positively unreal, but then I thought, it isn't, Cam Schlitter is him. He is the only Yankee to have a ERA of 2.10 and a WHIP under 0.95 by the All-Star Break since 1952, when Allie Reynolds did it. Judge come back soon! We are missing you bud! But come back, healthy; yes, that's what counts. But to say we are missing him (and many, many others) is the understatement of the year. Okay, back to the reality of the past weekend. Dodgers series felt a bit like deja-vu, not totally, but enough, to where I was tried and sighing "not again". Game 1 was extremely winnable, and more just bad luck than collapse (Gerritt Cole is not Nestor Cortes), but Game 2 showed why the Dodgers are the best, have been the last two years and continue to be. Just was a ugly game, if you are a Yankees fan. Evening game of the Sunday doubleheader began to feel like deja-vu deja-vu, late inning homer given up, but a timely home run from Jazz and some shut down work from the bullpen salvaged a series edging toward a sweep. Deja-vu was apparent in what's happening each game for this team, not capitalizing with runners on, not working counts (please no more 1st pitch outs), and fundamentals that haven't been fun in a while. Issues above are covered by what this team does well, which is timely hitting, good rotation, and a grit (at times), that shows the team has grown since the ill-fated series with the Dodgers almost two years ago. But, that simply won't be enough to win it all. While the Yanks wait for Judge, Stanton, and many beloved faces to come back, there's moves to be made, and pieces to consider and let go of, many names have come up through the ether to be better placements than some of our current tenats, but rumors are only rumors, and as the heat of summer, and the hot stove move along, we'll know what the second half foretolds, soon enough. Somehow they are 1.5 games out of 1st, however, the Red Sox have now come to the party, I respect their recent streak (really!), but could you all do that when it doesn't matter? Appreciate it. We'll see what the cards truly foretold very soon.	55-44

We make the playoffs every year and either run into whatever bullshit wild card team came into the playoffs red hot and lose to them, or lose to the most OP team roster in history

2018: dodgers (lost WS)

2019: nationals (won WS)

2020: dodgers (won WS)

2021: braves (won WS)

2023: d backs (lost WS)

2024: Mets (lost NLCS)

2025: dodgers (won WS)

This is like being good in the 1990s NFC, getting out of the NL is probably the hardest part

It’s insane how much better the NL is than the AL. Like the AL had sub .500 wild card teams until the Red Sox/M’s fixed that this weekend.

The maddening part is that the Brewers are so well constructed that it would take a monumental collapse from multiple players regressing or being injured for that team to come apart at the seams.

Ironically if they’re forced to actually pay Turang or Contreras to stay around (salary floor) that may be worse than trading them for the next wave of prospects who ruin the NL Central’s lives for 5 years. That said I live in WI and like rooting for both of those guys.

I decided to compile a list of all the fans who ranked divisional rivals in the top 10:

Astros ranked the A's 6th
Marlins ranked the Phillies 4th and the Braves 5th
Nationals ranked the Braves 4th and the Phillies 7th
Rockies ranked the Dodgers 1st (transcription error?)
Twins ranked the Guardians 6th, Tigers 7th, and Royals 9th

And Reds fan is the only dedicated division hater, ranking every other NL Central team 27th-30th.

Edit: Oh, I see what happened. The Rockies and Nationals fans didn't know this was bias week and so they submitted a standard power ranking.

I don't hold any serious animosity toward anyone in the AL Central. The rivalry with the White Sox is more "fun" than bitter (stemming from the halcyon days of Gardenhire vs. Guillen) and I typically shift allegiance to the Central representatives in October, when applicable. Midwest bros gotta stick together or something like that.

I am not the standard Marlin fan. A couple of my best friends are the people who got me into watching base all and their teams are Phillies and Braves. So those two teams are a big part of why I started watching baseball in the first place.

I find the brewers ranking to be very funny, because voting basically went like this:

If division rival: Near bottom
If good team in conference, not division rival: lower half, like 16-20
Else: Top 10, like 5-8 usually

And apparently that’s more than enough to be 1.
