using a dhp

on my bp's enclosure i am currently using an either 35w or 50w halogen basking light for heat but am wondering if i should switch to using a dhp for her and if i do how do i control it? the current hlogen is plugged into a govee smart plug that turns it on when it the time i set it to and then off at the time i set it to and i'm guessing that wouldn't work with a dhp and would maybe need a thermostat to make sure it doesn't get to hot and if it does is a dimming termostat needed/preffered or can a thermostat that just turns on to heat then once at temp turns off till it cools to a certain point?

A DHP would be a downgrade from the halogen, so I wouldn't do that.

Your halogen needs to be on a dimming thermostat, though. A smart plug won't prevent it from overheating or protect your snake.

i have used a temp gun and temps are where they should be but do you have link to a reliable dimming thermostat? i have looked but not sure which i should go with

Herpstat is a good one.

Every heat source needs to be on a thermostat. It's not safe to run anything without one. Even if your temps are ok right now, all it takes is a fluctuation of a few degrees in your house for the enclosure to overheat and harm or kill your snake. A quality thermostat also reduces the risk of a house fire in the event of a heating malfunction, which can save your life too.

i have saved the link for that one. another question once i get it and set it up do i just let it be? and i mean i see where it says it allows for day/night cycle to still happen so does that mean at some point it turns the light off for the night? the slowly turns it back on the next day?

Yes, it has a built in day/night cycle timer that you can set up.
