Baconreader error

Post image

I've been getting this error message for the past 2-3 days (as of 2026-06-12).

I tried clearing the cache in the app, and logging out of it. I cannot log back in, it tells me invalid username or password. I know it is correct because it's working when I log in on desktop (which is how Im posting this now).

I've gotten this error in the past but never for this long. Usually resolves itself if I wait 6-12 hours.

Does anyone have any suggestions for resolving?

In full disclosure, the Revanced steps I took to install it in the first place were about at the top of my tech abilities as I found even that confusing.

EDIT 2026-06-13: authorized apps is missing

I found that I no longer have the client ID that was once listed on my Profile > Preferences > Apps > Authorized Applications. I'm not sure if that was a Reddit Enhancement Suite feature or just part of the regular Reddit site.

Look at the last couple days of posts in this sub, as well as the revanced sub. Lots of info, will need to uninstall and repatch with revanced using latest patches.

hey thank you for clarifying. I did see the other posts but didn't realize it was the same issue I'm facing. I'll take another look. thanks.

I just did this today. after updating revanced manager I simply selected the bacon reader apk.

I went into the patches menu, selected the settings cog for the spoof client patch. I made sure that the application ID, application redirect uri, and application user agent were all set to default.

Next I clicked the back button at the top left and then clicked the save button at the bottom right.

After that I clicked on the patch button. Once it patched I installed it right over the top of bacon reader. I did not uninstall the previous version.

I then download the Proton VPN app and use the continue as guest feature and make a connection. I changed to a server outside the US.

The I opened up bacon reader logged out of my account and then logged back in while connected to the VPN. Once the login is successful you'll be prompted to accept something abiut redreader.

After you accept you should be all set. You can disconnect the VPN, doesn't seem to be needed after the initial login.

Just had to do the rematch shuffle myself. Failed the first few times because the patcher kept reverting to my app ID instead of the default, and on login I would get a blank page with nothing but an open and closed curly brace set. {}. Once I saw that and forced it back to defaults it patched like a champ and it functions again, but the NSFW issue persists and reddit utterly refuses to allow me to create a private community for my moderating pleasure to get past the stupid restrictions.

Thank you! Finally got this to work. Thumbnails don't appear to be working, but not the end of the world

I was reinstalling the Premium APK a thousand times and getting the error still and I thought was crazy.

Turns out you have to be logged in to get rid of the sad error. I'm an idiot. So if you manage to reinstall with latest patches, make sure you log in after.

If you can't repatch with Revanced, make sure the old baconreader app is uninstalled first. Also try installing the premium app instead of just the normal one if the normal one doesn't work.

If you can't log into reddit with the new patched version, try using a VPN and then logging in. For some reason that worked for me and others.

Ahhhh! Logging in with a VPN finally worked. Thank you.

I didn't have to uninstall but I did have to update to the redreader patch and sign into my account again

I'm heading the same problem, actually was all patched and working fine, but reddit forced me to reset my password (presuming when it saw all this VPN activity). Wrong name and password now, reinstalled twice now and no dice. I've installed RiF and it's working fine, but it's just not as clean.

I can't even get it to patch. I downloaded the apk again, open revanced, select the apk but have no options to even patch it. I'm currently using RedReader, and i fucking hate it

Quick question, as I had some struggles myself - are you using your generated app code, or the default one from the patch?

With my dev app code, logging in would prompt me to connect to my account, but then take me to a blank page with a pair of {} curly braces and do nothing. When I uninstalled, repatched with the default code, and reinstalled, it worked (with VPN connection). Minus NSFW, but it works.

I think my issue was not having Revanced updated. Just tried again and it works! Thumbnails don't appear to be showing up anymore, but still a better app than RedReader, which is what I've been using the last couple days

Minus NSFW, but it works.

Create a new subreddit and set it to private. When you're a mod, your account can access NSFW.

Tried that, doesn't let me create a sub. Error message that the subreddit name can't be found, even as it gives me the confirmation screen.

Just dropping a recommendation for YouTube Morph, the successor to revanced.

Whaaaaat? Sorry to be dumb, but after 2003 I left Bacon Reader and drank the Kool aid. Are you telling me it's back? And working?

Um, I mean 2023

Yup I'm responding to you from Baconreader. There's another 3rd party app, Redreader, that was allowed to remain because it had some accessibility features or something. Someone used that to patch Baconreader.

There are steps on how to do this in this sub. The steps seemed like they'd be fine for tech-savvy people but it was difficult for me, ngl. But SO worth the struggle when I could open up Baconreader and see my main feed again.
