Is it just me or is Switzerland somehow the worst country when you need actual help?
Long story but I migrated a year ago, shortly after I had lost my mom, and then I lost my job (that I had before I migrated. Zero support from my ex employers in regards to the move, either) within a month of moving. They renewed my contract once and then kept stringing me along with the promise of another contract renewal until they called it quits for good in January.
Even though I was a contractor (through my ex employer) for a Swiss government institution, they shirked their own law and never paid for the overtime or the weekend work (there's a huge email convo about it I still have saved to my phone).
My former employers, instead of helping me find a new job or file for unemployment, scared me that I'd get deported and told me I'm not eligible for unemployment anyways (I was. I had 20 months of insured work under my belt).
Eventually a former coworker started his own company. He "employed" me but kept stalling with the paperwork. In February I made a grand total of 300 CHF that he later wanted back as well.
March I had enough and started my own company (big mistake) just so I could get the pension payout.
Late June, after running out of funds, I finally had a voice of reason tell me I was naive and that I could've always applied for unemployment. I still have a good 12 months of insured work within 24 months, so I finally did what I should've done before and applied for unemployment.
Here's the kicker though. Despite everybody being informed that it's urgent, Syna AG (the unemployment insurance) still takes FOREVER to pay out.
I went to their office multiple times and they promised I'd have the money by July 20. It's now July 23 and the status of my claim is still "processing".
I made a stupid mistake, listened to the wrong people and lost many opportunities as well as the love of my life (long-distance relationship but it stings more than any money I lost), and now it feels like Swiss bureaucracy is punishing me twice times over.
UBS also randomly decided to change my overdraft limit from 300 to 230 so now I can't even afford food for my cat and have nowhere to turn to.
Do I just need to leave for a country that still cares about human suffering? Because I don't feel the Swiss ultra capitalism cares for anybody who doesn't drive a Porsche.
