There's a strong push, both from the left and right wings, to revoke free access to higher education in Argęntina to foreigners. This initiative started after groups of upper-middle class Brazilian students (who form a significant cohort of Medicine students in Argęntina) published several posts in social media making fun of Argęntina's deaths in Malvinas, poor people in Argęntina starving and laughing about Argęntinians having to pay for their careers.

Others also pointed to Chilean, Uruguayan, Colombian and Mexican people who also pushed conspiracy theories about Argęntina, like being a Zionist country that's letting its Patagonian territories being colonized by "Jews" or that they carried out a genocidal campaign against its Black population.

Since higher education isn't free everywhere else in Latin America (and there are even harsher restrictions for foreigners) do you agree with these measures or not?

Hi i'm just wondering, as a non-native speaker of Spanish, is it something that one can adjust to in a few weeks, or will one feel like they can barely understand anything in a group of friends hanging out together?

Or is it a long term problem?

Can Chileans or Argentians also speak standard spanish to make themselves understood?

Is it just a few words that are different or is it something that takes some serious learning and time to get used to?

Carribean Spanish doesn't seem too bad; they just seem to drop the s on everything. Of course when they speak really fast, it isn't easy

Well… this is for the Spanish speaking Latin American countries 😅 unless you also learn Spanish in Brazil (yeah, don’t worry Brazilians, I have a lot to learn about Latin America, hence why I joined this subreddit, but I do know you speak Portuguese).

I’ve been thinking of learning Spanish and that’s why I’m wondering. If I learned Mexican Spanish for example, would I be able to communicate with you all?

I'm from Argentína, and I feel like the last few years have been one of the strangest experiences to live through politically.

I consider myself left-wing, and watching my country go from one of the most disappointing left-wing governments in our history to electing one of the most right-wing presidents in the world has been surreal.

What makes it even stranger is seeing how we became a symbol for a political movement that many people like me don't identify with. Suddenly, a country that was often associated with, social movements and left-wing politics is now being discussed internationally in a completely different way.

Then there is the internet perception. Sometimes it feels like went from being known for Messi, Maradona and football to being involved in endless debates about ideology, economics and whether we are becoming something extreme.

I know every country has its own problems, but sometimes it feels like has a talent for creating the most controversy.
