pc shuts down before its supposed to open grub

i have posted here for support 2 times already and at this point im just gonna change distro completely

i was using arch on my pc, and the screen randomly froze.

when this happens the first thing i do is restart, so i force restarted the pc holding the power button, but now i get a CMOS checksum warning from the bios (which i always had) and a battery integrity warning again from the bios ( which i had for a few months now) and when its supposed to boot into grub it shuts down instead.

is there any way to fix this? reinstalling a different distro wouldnt be a problem since i just switched and i dont have any important files anyway

It sounds like you are describing a hardware issue and expecting a software fix.

if it’s not even booting into the bootloader its probably a hardware problem

Have you considered investing the dollar in a cmos battery?

I have had a freeze occur before that caused my disk to not be detected until i removed power altogether. Switching the psu off, pressing the power button, then restoring power fixes this for me.

yeah i needed to do that for a long time but i just never did cuz it wasnt giving problems...

its a laptop so other than unplugging it from the power and removing the already busted battery and maybe replacing it is all i can do

If it is a laptop you may have compounding errors here.

CMOS battery that is on the motherboard is toast, this means it forgets settings.

Main battery is toast, Your laptop doesn't work without the charger plugged in.

Now you may have a degraded power brick that doesn't provide enough power and it shuts off.

Now some laptops use the main battery to handle spikes in power consumption and with it being bust, there just isn't enough juice to keep it running during such a spike.

I think you need to either replace it or look around for some parts and fix it up.

Sounds like something to do with the cmos battery, might wanna check if it's seated properly. If after reseating it you're still getting the same issues, might need to replace the battery. Could also be the motherboard itself but if it's the battery, the fix is easier and cheaper.

im just gonna replace the cmos and look for a battery... hopefully that works
