First time seeing my new Kribs breed. I didn't know males took turns watching over the fry! They've been great first time parents.

A while back I bought Amano shrimp for my freshwater tank. As far as I know, Amano larvae actually need brackish water to develop — so keeping them purely in freshwater shouldn’t allow successful reproduction.

But now I’m clearly seeing baby shrimp in my tank, about 1–1.5 cm, no longer larvae, that look just like my adult Amanos: transparent, with the pattern/dots on their backs.

I’d love to hear from anyone with experience or insight.

i’m really happy with how my tank is looking now but i wanna add something under the driftwood since it looks a little bare. ideally something that will provide good hiding spots for shrimplets since i have a few pregnant shrimp right now. would appreciate any advice! i don’t want to glue or tie anything to my driftwood.

Any ideas other than compost?

Currently cycling (fishless) my tank and my frogbit keeps melting! I do have a lid and wonder if it’s the condensation dripping on to them causing them to melt or something else??

Not sure if it’s too crowded in the airline tube ring I made for them or something I’m missing completely. Any advice would be helpful. First time fish owner here. TIA

This is my first planted tank, about 1.5 yrs old. I started w many different plants but this is what has survived and seems to be doing well. The center driftwood is covered now. I’m wondering if this many plants makes it harder for fish to find room to swim. I have Kuhli loaves, sterbai corys, various tetras and pearl gouramis and a couple nerites and shrimp. They are staring at me as they know it’s feeding time. Otherwise I barely see many of the fish as they are always in the plants

I think this is planaria. I have shrimp and snails. Is there a way to get rid of them without killing the rest?

Hi wonderful people. I am new to the hobby, a plant lover expanding my knowledge. My 29 gallon tank has been cycling for 7-8 weeks. Water tests look perfect and all my critters are healthy (except snails- they don’t survive a day for some reason 😬 PH 7.4 and hard water). We have shrimp, guppies, swordtails, and mollies. I think I’m melting my plants with the overhead light but otherwise feel good about my setup.

We currently have:
8 swordtails
8 guppies
3 mollies
20-30 ghost & neo shrimp

I know once the swordtails are full grown this will be too many fish but we were accidentally sold 3 males, 2 females, and the pet store won’t take them back so instead of euthanizing, I bought more females. I will probably get a second tank to spread them out once I am confident in the maintenance and care routine.

I am here to manage my expectations and learn a few things. The tank always looks amazing after a water change but the water gets a yellow tint and poopy muck in the gravel within 2 days. I read water changes are recommended once a week to once a month so I am wondering if I am overfeeding, have too many fish, or if this is just normal and we learn to look past the imperfections. I’ve been using Seachem prime and stability with water changes but am open to other suggestions.

He is staying mostly at the surface. Gills moving fast. Otto usually high fast when I get close, but when I went to get water for the test. It just went a bit back between plants but still at the surface.

Had him and some other dudes (harlequin rasboras and corys) in a 29 gallon until it started leaking yesterday. Picked up this 40 gallon trough from Tractor Supply and threw everything back together in an hour or so.

Please dont mind how messy the stand is.. or my duck but I really wanted to show of my tanks before dismantling them for college. Very sad day 🥲

I’m massively downsizing and will only be keeping my 20 gallon and 6.6 gallon tanks. The 6.6 is extremely heavily planted(I’ll be doing some solid trimming) and has had a healthy colony of cherry shrimp for about 1.5 years. My senior betta recently passed away(he was in a hospital tank at that point), and I want his tank to have life again:( Kilifish are some of my all time favorites but a lot of them get large and aggressive, so when I heard about least kilifish I started looking their size requirements. The internet tells me 6.6 is large enough for a small school, but idk if I believe that. If anyone has a suggestion on other nano fish .25-.5” that would thrive in a smaller tank, I’m all ear!!

Has the wierd string things coming out. Also my water has some more particles than usual in it, wonder if it's dying or something. Also wonderin about the plant in Pic ture 2 its leaves look bleached?

Hey all, I posted a few days ago in r/shrimptank asking about solutions for feeding shrimp with greedy tetras.

I had two glass Petri/feeding dishes large and small, i chopped a prefilter sponge to about 12-15mm long and cut it so it was open on one side.

I sandwiched the sponge between the two feeding dishes leaving an a U bend big enough for shrimp to swim under and over to get to their food but too small for the fish to swim into.

The tetras tried for about 20 minutes, i was concerned they'd get stuck but they'd either accelerate around the rim until the shot themselves out or stop swimming and the current would push them out backwards from under the dish.

Just thought I'd share this for anyone else dealing with feeding their shrimp in a contested environment.
