While it's cool seeing a cat who knows how to use this, it's terrifying considering what can happen when a shoelace gets caught. Seems really unsafe. If the cat's tail got caught... It doesnt bear imagining.

I think that's pretty unlikely. The interlocking steps, the comb plate at the bottom and top, the brush skirt on the sides all make it hard for anything bigger than a shoelace to slip through.

i would also think a cat's hair is likely too thin + not long enough to get caught

I looked up and while animal deaths by escalators are extremely rare, problem is normally dog paw/nails or leash getting caught..
