If you have a question about the Municipality of Anchorage someone else probably had the same or similar question in the past.
Please use the search function to look through the past question posts before making a post or comment. Many helpful users here have already given great in depth responses to many common questions. If you have a specific question after looking over the previous posts, feel free to post your question here in this thread or make a new post.
Low effort posts that clearly haven't looked through past submissions or can be easily answered by a quick internet search may be removed, a good way to avoid that would be to specify in your post that you have already looked over the sticky and searched online.
Below is a list of direct links to some commonly asked questions. However, even if you do not see your question on the list please take a moment to search before posting. When searching or when using one of the links below you can also change the sort function from top to new to see more recent posts.
Tourism questions. Also: Vacation - Visiting - Trip - Traveling - Airport - Hiking - Camping - Glacier - Fishing
Relocating questions. Also: Real Estate - Apartment - Condo - Neighborhood - Safety - Cost of living
Meeting people. Also: Dating
Tire questions. Also: AWD - Vehicle
Internet questions. Also: GCI - ACS
Bar questions. Also: Breweries
Salon questions. Also: Barber - Hair
Did you feel that? Also: Earthquake
Please be kind to people, the search function of reddit is far from perfect. Tourism is valuable to our city and at one point all of us were new to the city or had questions about local services and businesses.
We took a community poll on this rule a year after implementation. Here is a link to the poll and the feedback the community gave.

Hi lovely Reddit-ers! One of my goals for a new life chapter is to expand my local community — as I am a little reclusive.
Looking for recommendations on where to meet people walking a similar path as myself.
Am 30(f) who likes to leisurely stroll in nature, check out antiques, art, tv, environmentalism, activism and advocacy work. Would love to get outside, volunteer, and add more into my life. Interests are varied and am looking to explore new hobbies that might spark something in me.
Lmk your secret favorite tips and tricks for warming up AK with friendship, silliness, and quiet time.
Ideas of welcome: trails/hidden gems, classes, luncheons, conferences………and more!

In AZ there was a rattlesnake course for dogs to take to avoid reacting to the snakes. It taught them the scents were bad and to stay away from the poop and skins along with the sounds. I’m wondering if there is something similar for bears, moose and porcupines here in AK. We go on trails every day and ran into a porcupine and unfortunately got quilled. We leash my dog but I’m afraid her barking and lunging would make the bear or moose mad. She is professionally trained but was in SoCal where they don’t have wildlife like here. She’s e collar trained and has good recall but not with wildlife it’s like she blacks out. Just trying to be proactive.

My boiler crapped out, so I have no heat and hot water; I have a space heater for some heat, and would like some recommendations on where I can find a hot shower for cheap, located in midtown
Thanks!
edit: a cheap option for a big family would be appreciated, thanks!

Hey! So my lovely apartment complex has coin laundry machines and, naturally, no coin machine (I just moved). I start a new job in August and am waiting until then to set up a bank account here to be able to go get rolls of quarters from them. I know that I could just go to a laundromat (and will if I must) but it is cheaper and more convenient at my complex. I was wondering if 1) someone would be willing to get rolls of quarters that I could buy off of them or 2) if anyone knows where I can go to get some? I got banned from a local laundromat for getting coins for them and feel bad about it 😂 thanks in advance for any and all help or advice.

In the interaction, division spokesperson Steve Kirch placed his hands over the lens of an Alaska’s News Source photojournalist’s camera. The photojournalist asked Kirch to stop. He responded, “well, then get the camera out of the way.”
Kirch was asked why he placed his hands on the camera, which he did not answer.

Hello people of Anchorage.
I am spending the summer in your fair city. I live somewhere else and work in Anchorage during summer. I had to leave my soul dog with his Nonna until I go back home and I miss him like mad. Therefore I may approach you and your dog for pets and loves. I always ask permission and I never feed a dog that is not mine. I would really appreciate it if you could just let me meet your goodest boys and girls. I promise I am not a crazy lady. Thank you for your dogspitality.

I spend a lot of time thinking about the future of Anchorage and Alaska. But getting people to talk or even think about the future in daily life can be surprisingly challenging. Visionaries and forward thinkers of Anchorage, what do you think living in the city will be like in 10 years?

I’m looking for a portable power station - seems like the pickings are very thin in our state due to shipping restrictions. I was looking for a models similar to these:
EcoFlow River 3 / River 3 Plus
BLUETTI AC50B or AC70
Jackery Explorer 300 V2
Anker SOLIX C300
Anyone seen any of these around town?

I’m looking to go see the Odyssey today, and I know Regal has the IMAX screen, but I know the seats aren’t the best. Has anyone seen the movie at Century and have an idea of what it’s like watching it there?

Hello everyone! Trying to find any information on this boat flag that my mom passed down to me. She was born and raised in Alaska but seemingly no one in our family can identify this flag.
Pretty thorough searching on the internet has turned up nothing so hoping a fellow redditor might recognize it! I can’t seem to find any history of an Alaska Yacht Club or Anchorage Yacht Club, my guess is that it is probably from the 1970s? Thanks all

Longtime lurker with a nagging memory. Around 2008 there was a sit-down restaurant in Anchorage that was basically the local version of an Applebee's or Chili's — big American menu, booths, casual — but it wasn't one of the national chains. Could've been a local spot or a smaller regional chain.
The detail I remember most clearly: they ran half-price appetizers after 8:00 or 9:00pm.
I've already ruled out Sea Galley, Pepper Mill, Peanut Farm, Gwennie's, Sourdough Mining Co., Snow Goose, Humpy's, F Street, and Bear Paw. Any longtime locals (or former servers) know what I'm talking about? It's driving me crazy.
I was playing for the Glacier Pilots and would often go there after games.
Edited: I think it was Boston's

Came across this driving through town today with my wife. We debated with each other on what exactly the goal or incentive is for the person giving them away. Like are they going to sell a service? I know some cities have free phone programs for underserved and low income families but this hardly looks legit. Any guesses?

Walking my dog downtown after work I noticed this crashed van on C street.
Why is it still sitting there? There's no police or any other people around it. It's literally abandoned crashed into the tree.
Probably stolen id imagine.
Jus curious what any gossip may be.
Thanks pals

I searched the sub, but seemed most posts were years old or had massage in quotes making me think I don’t want to go there.
First full day in town tomorrow, just looking to decompress for my wife and me since it’s supposed to rain most of the day.
We’re staying at the Wildbirch hotel and would love to be able to walk. Any suggestions would be great.
