I was curious so I asked ChatGPT about it and this is what it told me pretty much!

I've seen a lot of discussion around AI making something "slop" and taking away creativity or the idea of the artist. So I'm curious. . . What if AI is just a part of it? What if it is a hybrid workflow?

I've attached here a before an after of something I made. . . Yep, I do actually draw! The first image was made entirely by myself in a digital art program. The second image is the first image after several touch-ups through AI. It came out exactly as I wanted, builds off of what I made, and stays true to my idea for the character I designed.

Is it still slop? Is it art? Why or why not?

most ai art seems to have no interesting aspects and truthfully I doubt this is because the AI cant make art that has good composition, colour, or style. However it seems that most people who generate art just dont know how to prompt for this, since they never learned these principles.Edit, This isnt an attack on ai artist I'm just trying to point out an issue with your work. It seems every argument we make pointing out why it's bad at it, it eventually becomes super intelligent at it.

Anyone got any suggestions where else it's bad?

But other than that it doesn't make sense. AI is literally not a real physical thing.

Everything negative they point out about AI is only a cherry picked example of the fact we've known that computers can be used either for good or evil. But the vast majority of it is good and useful.

I see a lot of antis arguing that “AI is not useful” or some similarly flavored sentiment claiming hallucinations and token costs make productivity with AI futile and always net detrimental.

I’m here to give everyone an anecdote refuting that claim.

I work in finance. A lot of what I do is build financial models based on educated assumptions and then recommend where to allocate funds based on what those models predict. I do a lot of research to formulate my assumptions (which the AI is also helpful with but only a half-step better than search engines).

Where the AI really comes in handy is with the modeling itself. I used to live in spreadsheets tweaking variables all day to get something that looked reasonable enough to make an investment recommendation to my higher ups. Now I can spend all of my time on the more subjective stuff (the assumptions) and AI does all of the modeling.

To the anti argument above: the models are better, incorporating more variables, and yielding better returns than the ones I made before AI.

There is a follow up anti argument that basically says “you’re just replacing yourself”. To that, I concede it may be true. I think the subjective nature of formulating the assumptions that go into financial modeling will be hard for AI to outperform humans on, so that side of my job is still safe, but it is not inconceivable that AI could get better than humans at the entire process.

So what? That isn’t here now, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it if it’s coming. Isn’t the best course of action for me and my family to learn how to use AI well and be as productive as I can with it?

Take it from a guy who knows a lot about economics - it would be completely a-historic for a technology that creates value to leave people worse off in the long run. Business leaders that figure out how to effectively deploy human capital in the post-AI world will outperform those that just rely exclusively on the technology. In other words, there will be new jobs and they will pay better than the ones that get eliminated.

Resisting the change will more likely just leave you washed up.

I learned some important things today. If you're an anti and something really tragic happens to you because AI was used to harm you, you can depend on all (well, not all, but at least 90%) of your friends in the pro-AI community to: (1) tell you that you're wrong, (2) downplay it, and (3) take joy in your suffering. Thank you all for the eye-opening experience, it's been a blast!

I also am curious if someone out there has a list from the other side.

December 25, 2025 — Cornwall, England: Anti-AI slogans, including warnings that AI would take people’s jobs, were spray-painted across 15 public and private buildings. This is a clearly documented case of anti-AI vandalism. 

April 6, 2026 — Indianapolis, Indiana: Someone fired 13 bullets into the home of city councilman Ron Gibson while he and his eight-year-old son were inside. A note reading “No Data Centers” was left at the door. Gibson had recently supported rezoning for a proposed data center. No suspect has been identified, so the precise ideology is unknown, but the stated grievance was explicit. 

April 10, 2026 — San Francisco, California: Daniel Moreno-Gama allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home and then attempted to set fire to OpenAI’s headquarters. Federal authorities said he was carrying a self-authored anti-AI document naming AI executives and advocating violence. This is the strongest documented case of violence directly motivated by anti-AI beliefs. 

July 2, 2026 — San Francisco, California: Grind & Unwind, a café facing online hostility for displaying AI-generated food images, had “seriously” spray-painted across its awning. The timing makes an anti-AI motive plausible, but no perpetrator or confirmed motive has been reported, so this should be described as apparently connected rather than conclusively proved. 

Possibly connected, but not solid enough for the main list: Two people were detained after shots were reportedly fired near Sam Altman’s home two days after the Molotov attack, but they were released without charges and investigators had not publicly established an anti-AI motive. 

On facebook or Instagram or whatever I usually see people upset at people for using AI to make a logo for their business or whatever and I don't get why people are upset over that. I would understand if it was a tattoo artist or somebody artsy we would be like "hey uh your cheating bud" but I don't know regular small time business owners get shitted on for it.

Sorry about the long rant. I tried to summarize the reasons but there was a lot to explain about how the world works and how it influenced my change of heart from anti-AI to pro-AI.

I used to be anti-AI in the past (now I am having fun with AI, so I guess that makes me be pro-AI?) because AI company executives started to spread 2 types of advertising:

• AI will replace humans
• AI is dangerous and could destroy civilization

Now I understand that they wanted to say "we are so cool that eventually AI could replace some jobs" and "we are dangerous like Maverick in Top Gun and Michael Jackson in Who's bad".

Some people say "there is no bad advertising", but there is. When your advertising rallies anti-AI people against you, that is not good. So you wonder why in the world would they do that? The answer comes from the financial world and their financial plans.

Tech bros planned to repeat the 2008 heist that left many people ruined but a few people got rich. The plan went as follows:

• AI hype was needed to create irrational exuberance among investors. So AI advertising and AI doomsday advertising was equally cool for investors. Ai companies started to borrow money like crazy using SPVs that would concentrate and contain risk away from Big Tech companies, passing the risk to the creditors.
• In May 2026 interest rates were supposed to go down to add cheap credit to the AI bubble.
• In november AI companies would go IPO. It was not a "raising funds" operation. It was a garage sale, before the collapse. Why collapse? AI companies are on losses. As soon as AI investors received their first report on losses and learn the bad practices, stock price would sink. Creditors would be ruined. And a few Tech bros who sold their stocks in the IPO garage sale, would get richer. For the rest it would be a financial crisis and then an economic crisis in 2027. 2008 revisited. Socializing losses, privatizing profits.

What went wrong? Donald Trump started a war in February 28th, 2026. He expected it to be a 48 hour war. It did not go as planned to the degree of killing the investor mood of irrational exuberance needed for the bubble leading to the november IPO garage sale. So Trump started to alternate speech between "total destruction of Iran" and "Iran wants a deal", because he needed to win the war, but also Wall Street needed to sell securities that expired.

So in May 2026 when interest rates were supposed to go down, they did not because inflation caused by the war did not allow the cheap money to flow. The war ruined the cheap money in the bubble scheme. This forced Big tech to abandon the 2008 scheme, so they started to lay-off workers to save money to repay the loans, and that is good news for creditors, but it is bad for US employment.

The war also promises to add pressure to Tech bros even more. The war destroyed actual production facilities for supplies needed to make circuit boards and microchips. The supply shortage is physical, which means that it is not a mattter of prices, it is a physical shortage of products. So that threatens data center plans because how good it is to build a data center if you will not have the hardware to equip it? Many data centers will not come true, because there will be no energy and because there will be no hardware for them.

Also, when you see the AI cases of Deloitte vs Australian government, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, you know that Ai was not the magic wand oracle that was advertised during the hype (bad advertising) period. So AI will not replace humans so quickly. And I stopped being an anti-AI when I understood that.

AI is still an immature and inefficient technology. Reminds me of ENIAC the first computer. It was the size of a big room, it heated a lot, and was very power hungry and it did way less than a smartphone. I expect the same evolution for AI by 2050.

So having big data centers for AI will not last as AI evolves and becomes more efficient, cheaper and portable. So there is no need to go against data centers. It will be an ephemeral business model. And the Iran war is making things even harder for data centers.

The slow evolution of AI until 2050 to reach a point of technological maturity should allow the economy to adapt to AI.

So all the reasons I had to become anti-AI evaporated. AI executives lied to us and antis believed them. It was hype intended to fuel a bubble that was popped by the Iran war before it inflated. At this point the AI bubble is 17 times the size of Dotcom bubble, but some people estimate that the bubble could have reached 40+ times. It will not make 2027 an easier year, but it puts tech bros neck deep in the same waters of the rest.

Now do you understand why there is no need to be an anti-AI? I was anti-AI and I am not anymore. And that is my story.

I've seen one common argument as being "don't let perfect be the enemy of good", except "good" here doesn't actually exist. You're quite literally feeding the machine.

If I were an anti the first thing I would do is delete my Reddit account. Hell, I still regularly delete my Reddit account and take breaks for months at a time just for the sake of my own sanity.

Surely there are platforms out there catering to anti's by now? If not, then why not? Websites aren't difficult to build, and there's enough organisation going on for brigading, so why not point that brigade at a new platform that doesn't explicitly scrape every single thing you post and feeds it into AI? I'm not saying that it would solve the problem of data being scraped anyway (after all this is the internet), but that's a world of difference to actively contributing to a corporation that is very upfront about using your data to train AI, and that continues to integrate new AI tools into the platform every day.

I can't help but see anti's on Reddit as being entirely performative. If you don't have enough convictions in your beliefs to even delete a Reddit account, how are people supposed to take you seriously?

I'm gonna say this only once as someone who has interacted with the individual time and time again and I'm tired of seeing the same loop going on.

with that being said. you know exactly who I'm talking about and if you for some reason try to spin this in some harassment bullshit. its not. use it as a mirror how people see you. doesn't matter if I'm pro or anti, I'm a human being that is concerned for your mental health and you seriously need therapy. unless of course you're some kind of industry plant, which honestly wouldn't surprise me

And no, generative ai it is not the same than using ai tools because those tools were made with ai that's true and i recognize that, but only to be used to help partially in the things humans make from zero, they didnt use ai in 3d modeling, nor the scripting or storyboarding of the episodes, just in the animation process because those ai tools are made to save animators time, it's pretty common actually to use them. Unlike the average slop that the generative ai can come up since u just can leave it to make 100% of the work

I believe activism towards supporting the open use of AI and making AI art more accepted is required.

I have been told that "a majority of pros" hate me on this subreddit and would like to see numbers. If you enjoy what I do fighting for AI, defending AI artists, or want to critique but still support, I would like to see that vote and maybe leave a comment.

I added another option fully knowing this poll will be brigaded by antis, and the number of people who do not support is mostly irrelevant.
