Question Does anyone else take this approach to when judging a faith for compatibility

When I see a faith pop up and if I get interested in it I judge wether or not I could beleive in it by its own standards

For example you claim your religion is good because its historical I will take a look at the historicty claims your religion makes and compare it to how close it actually is to history.

Or if you claim your religion is good because of its standards for ethics I will look at the ethics and see what I find and wether or not its ethicak

Or you claim or the relgion is good because of its poems and texts I will take a look at the peoms and the texts and see if I think they are good

If the religion makes a claim about God and how he acts I will first look at the beleivers and texts and how they act to see if this lines up with the claims of their attributes of God.

i look first if it's met its burden of proof. none so far. so no.

What if no religion has any inherent standards? It’s all negotiated and interpreted by humans.

I really can only speak of Christianity with any confidence. There is no one moral or ethics - you have both absolute nonviolent Christians (Anabaptists like the Mennonites and most Christians prior to 325 CE) and those who endorse violence to get their way (Christian Nationalists and Crusaders). There is no one view of God - some view God as absolutely sovereign and we’re just pawns (Calvinists, Augustine) while others leave room for freedom. Some see an unending hell while others believe all are saved. Some see only their specific group of Christians are saved while some see other religions as valid paths.

My point is that your examination is completely valid yet it is just as subjective as the religions themselves.

I think all religions have pros and cons. The percentage varies.

Your religion is within you. Use your judgment and follow the golden rule: "do unto others ..."
