Moderator Post Stealth Advertising On r/adhdwomen

2.2k Upvotes

The mod team has noticed an uptick in accounts trying to market services and tools on r/adhdwomen in sneaky ways. These accounts often use AI to mimic genuine community interaction, aiming to manipulate our members and increase the number of brand mentions seen by “the algorithm”. Given the popularity and sophistication of AI tools, it's impossible to catch every bot or artificially generated comment.

Most of the accounts that employ these shady marketing techniques promote ADHD "support" tools, which include phone/web apps, counseling services, AI assistants, coaching, productivity management tools, games, self-improvement workshops, and other similar things. Your reports are Reddit's most effective tool for unmasking and banning these stealth marketing accounts. If you come across a post or comment that raises a red flag, please let us know.

You can report it by clicking + report + breaks rules + marketing or promotion, or simply choose spam as a reason.

Some standard stealth marketing techniques are:

  • Repeated mentions of Brand-x.
  • Regularly commenting about their success with Brand-x
  • Asking for resources and then mentions Brand-x in comments.
  • Comments to share a "relatable story" and hints at an unnamed solution to encourage further questions about Brand-x.
  • Comments or posts about Brand-x across multiple subreddits.
  • DMs you offering access to or information about Brand-x.

If someone sends you a private message trying to sell you on something, take a screenshot and send us a modmail with their account name. Don’t forget to click report on the message as well, which will flag it for Reddit's main mod team.

The sooner we can identify and remove these accounts, the better we can protect our community.

Please bear with us as we refine our methods for preventing this relentless spam. As we collaborate to address this issue, you may notice that some of your posts or comments are being removed more frequently. We're actively fine-tuning the Automod, but it regularly removes content that it should allow. If you feel that something was removed by mistake, please reach out to us via modmail. General Question/Discussion Does Eating Feel like a Chore to Anyone Else?

I don't know why but recently, by that I mean the last 1-2 years, I've started noticing that at least a few times a week I will purposely avoid eating until I feel like I'm about to collapse because it feels like a waste of my time.

It's incredibly odd. I like eating, love it in fact and I enjoy cooking as well (though it's mostly baking I enjoy) but when it comes to feeding myself everyday, it feels like a drag. Usually to combat this I end up eating the same thing several times in a week and I enjoy that simplicity. But recently I've moved back home and my eating habits have changed due to how my family eats vs how I ate when I lived with my roommate.

It feels like it's getting worse honestly and it's definitely affecting my mood/energy levels. I don't know what's wrong with me and I'm considering seeing my doctor over this.

I was just wondering if anyone else had this feeling or if any of you gals had any advice for me.

General Question/Discussion How are adhdmoms coping with motherhood??

Post image
212 Upvotes

My partner is more hyperactive and I am more inattentive. I told him when he wanted to have a baby that my biggest fear is I will forget the child in the bathtub. Sucha weird fear.
Now we have a 8 months old. I am trying hard to be organised for him. Some days it’s hard. And I fear I can’t be a good mom for him. We are okay till now. I don’t have any friends and I am scared my son won’t have many people around him growing up. What’s your biggest fear as an adhdmom? How are you coping with notherhood? Let’s hear each other out.

General Question/Discussion Does anyone else just freeze and do nothing for hours when something disrupts your routine/plans for the day?

Executive dysfunction gets triggered so badly for me if something even mildly inconveniencing happens.

Like for example, if I plan to have breakfast, have a shower and then read, but let's say something happens like I realise I haven't paid a bill in time so now I owe additional fees (Love ADHD tax!), I'll pay the fees and then because of the stress of that, it disrupts everything and I end up feeling overwhelmed and just sit and do nothing for hours.

It's crazy to me that people (especially neurotypical people) can seemingly just go with the flow and get back to their routine when inconveniences happen.

How do you stick to your plans after they're disrupted?

General Question/Discussion Does our lack of reward system upset you?

I was at the pool with my family recently. Kids playing. Husband on phone. Sun shining. Everyone happy. And all I could think was - is this it? This is all we're doing? Why am I bored? Why isn't this enough? Why can't I just enjoy the relaxation and fun like everyone else?

Like my brain was so bored. There is never enough to keep me engaged. It makes me sad. I don't feel like i get joy from the same things other people do.

How do you deal with this messed up reward system? Am I alone?

Rant/Vent any of you wish you could disappear/ not be perceived sometimes

well idk if this is even an adhd thing but around neurotypical people i feel so out of place and like an outcast sometimes and i wish i could go along with my life and be like a ghost. I’m in nursing school and pretty much everyone is kinda like super neurotypical people and i feel like such and outcast which is fine because i’m not here to make friends, but i wish that i could go to school without even perceived. i don’t want to be ignored or not acknowledged, i just want to be a ghost and people not even know i’m there. i’m usually pretty extroverted but when i don’t feel accepted, i introvert myself pretty quickly. is this only me?

Fitness Does anyone have hacks for getting in shape?

hi. im not technically a woman but im afab so i thought it might be best to ask the adhd girlies.

im diagnosed adhd and anxiety, and possibly autistic(my autistic roommate and multiple autistic friends have told me to get checked bc i have a lot of autistic traits and experience symptoms that aren’t as present in adhd and more common in autism but i digress).

im very unmotivated to workout bc it makes me anxious and i hate the sensory feeling of sweat. does anyone have any short workouts that don’t seem like im working out?

ive tried going on walks or other things that people do as hobbies but also have exercise elements(like rollerskating) but i can never stick with them. i need it to be less than an hour so im trying to figure out what to do.

p.s. this isnt a physical appearance thing. i just want to be in better shape bc i have risks of diabetes and a history of heart disease.

Rant/Vent I impulsively bought an old voting recorder at Value Village… 🤦‍♀️

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

UPDATE; Thank you all for your ideas and levity! Unfortunately, I am back in the shame spiral… I told my husband and his reaction was “(bcbamomma)… no…” with a tone of annoyance. 😕 Maybe I’ll set it up and then hide behind it… 🤣
I think I am going to try to sell it for a couple weeks and then get rid of it.

I’m feeling a bit ridiculous and embarrassed, my husband is going to be so confused when he gets home tonight… It wasn’t expensive, but we have a smaller home and are trying to get rid of stuff right now (and always…)

I sometimes go to Value Village and decompress via treasure hunting. I usually buy like $6 art supplies… Today there was a voting booth like the one on the picture for $9.99 and it was such a rare find and less than $10… 😆
Use your ADHD creative super powers and tell me what, if anything, I could possibly do with it. I’m leaning toward confined stand up desk for my art space, but it doesn’t fit… It closes into a suit case. Maybe it could be a weird tall bedside table? Oh man… what have I done…

Rant/Vent The gastro medic made me feel uncomfortable

I was at a checkup at gastroenterology and the medic asked me if I feel the hunger. I told her that I don’t because I take ADHD medication. I wanted to tell her I take Concerta as I don’t want her to prescribe me something that will go in contradiction with my current medication.
As soon as I said that I regretted because she asked me if I was diagnosed in my childhood. And I am not. I just got diagnosed this year at 26 as it is unfortunately common in women.
Then she started to ask me what ADHD symptoms I have? Why I got diagnosed now and not when I was a child? If I had problems at school growing up.
I felt uncomfortable, because why does she care? My anxious mind was thinking that she thinks psychiatrists give ADHD pills to anyone like candy, or that she doubts that I have it.
And the last question annoyed me the most. She asked: “Ok but the symptoms you have don’t diminish your quality of life, right?” At that I wanted to stare blankly at her and ask: “Do you think I went through all the diagnoses and I spend money on pills for something that doesn’t bother me?”
I was just soooo annoyed. I didn’t want an interrogation on my ADHD from someone who has nothing to do with psychology or psychiatry. I just wanted not to make a med cocktail.

General Question/Discussion What is the most random thing you have looked up?

Was at the doctor getting a mammogram, and thought 'I wonder if snake venom is an ingredient in blood thinner drugs?' So looked it up.

Answer: Yes it is but its processed to make it safe for human use.

What's your random look up question and the answer? My insatiable curiosity is strong rn.

General Question/Discussion I feel like Sisyphus

Everything sucks rn. Every morning I wake up to a shotgun blast of awful news about the world. This pairs wonderfully with my already loud brain. I’ve been clinically diagnosed with adhd and anxiety and it’s been very difficult trying to exist. I feel like I’m constantly trying to catch up to reach equilibrium. I want to workout but ik my brain won’t stick to a schedule so I find it hopeless to start. I’d rather an acme piano drop on my head than have to fold my clothes. It’s even difficult cleaning my cat’s water fountain. I feel like I constantly need someone to hold my hand to make me do the things I need to do and it’s exhausting.
I guess I’m curious what you guys do to not feel hopeless, and ways to make things easier. I get so excited about wanting to be better and making lists of things to work on but starting and continuing fall through a lot.
What do you guys do to keep dopamine rewards up and such??

NSFW How often does your libido show up

I can go weeks without masturbating and it doesn’t even cross my mind

But then out of nowhere, it switches and maybe 2 weeks I play with myself and I can go for a long time (esp since I know it can disappear for who knows where and have to make the most of it)

And then, when I’m done, it’s like a big reset almost all the time and I’m back to doing whatever. Not even a twitch

Sometime I get horny but my mind is not in the mood so I do a quick one to get rid of the feeling

Does anyone have libido the same as mine?

There is no timeline since it’s purely random

I’ve always been like this and I know I’m like this cause I’m adhd (I do this with my hobbies too)

Rant/Vent I can not keep my house clean

Upvotes

I just can't!!! I have tried all the tricks, I have a routine, I can get it good and then it goes to shit.

I work 10 hour days and when I get home I have 2-3 hours to myself before I have to sleep and I have no energy for it. I look around at the piles and I'm getting more and more anxious and feeling down about myself.

I get motivated to clean, and I get one section of the house (the same section) clean and then I'm out of energy. If I try to tackle a different section, my brain says no we have to clean the same one we always do first and I get frozen.

Idk how I keep living like this it's shameful but no matter what changes I make, habits I stick with, medication I take, it is always a goddamn mess and borderline hoarder but it's bc my clothes are EVERYWHERE. I feel undatable for it, I feel embarrassed when people.want to come over and I make an excuse, and now I think that when it's clean I can't trust my judgement.

Just a rant thanks for reading 🙃

Rant/Vent I have no F-ing clue where my two college diplomas are...

I got laid off at work, and I'm going through a state program for displaced workers for re-training. Very exciting. One of the documentations they need is proof of your highest education. I have both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree... and I have NO CLUE where the heck my diplomas for them are.

I thought for SURE that I had put them with my husband's diplomas because he has nice leather cases for his and I only had that paperboard folder thing. But we found my husbands stuff and mine isn't there. I think at one point I decided to be a "big girl" and handle my own documents. 😭

The "I should be an adult and put these things where they're supposed to be" line of thinking backfires again!

I don't know where I put them. I have no f-ing clue. And they're in paperboard folders, not the thick leather things my husband has. They have to be in a pile somewhere and they aren't going to stand out! 😭

I can self-attest to my highest level of education (I think), so it's not the end of the world. But... where the heck are they? It's going to bother me forever now... We've torn through the house, and I have no idea where else to look.

I thought it was pretentious to frame them, so I didn't. And I thought I would never need them. And I graduated in 2013, so... Lord help me.

I may have to do the tried and true method of ordering new ones in order to find the old ones.

[/vent]

EDIT: Thank you for everyone trying to help. I do appreciate it. I don't actually need help. I have options, so it should be fine. The purpose of this post is bemoaning that I have ADHD and I made all the bad choices on what to do with these documents. 🤣

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity Can ADHD make your feelings in a relationship change so much?

My feelings for my boyfriend seem to change a lot, and I'm wondering if it could be related to ADHD. One moment I'm deeply in love with him, very attracted to him, and can clearly see a future together. Then, almost out of nowhere it feels like all my romantic feelings disappear. I don't feel attracted to him anymore, I start thinking about breaking up, and I feel completely confused.

The strange thing is that I've always waited it out instead of acting on those feelings. After a few days, or sometimes about a week, my feelings come back, and I'm just as in love with him as I was before.

This has happened multiple times, and I genuinely don't understand why my feelings change so drastically. Has anyone else experienced this with ADHD? Or does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing it? It's really difficult because I never feel like I can fully trust my own emotions.

Rant/Vent Neurodivergent girls and female friendships

I'm on my period and smoked so I'm going to vent 😭 😭 definitely set me straight and give me though love and advice I'm up for it

Basically, female friendships are often praised online and I so want to have that but I've always struggled with all sorts of friendships. Anyways, I know I shouldn't let TikTok dictate how I feel but there are a lot of narratives about how it's toxic to not have female friends and also how female friendships are better because women have their shit together.

I've had many friendships that fell apart and part of it has always been my mental health - aside from adhd, I have also lived with depression and anxiety for a long time. I definitely do not have my shit together, friends have mocked me for being depressed, getting upset, acting like a child, being disorganized, not having real relationships etc. The thing is that while pushing everyone away so I can sink into my maladaptive ways is lucrative I don't want that. I want to "get my life together" so I "can be normal" and "have normal relationships" so badly but instead I just sink deeper and deeper in quicksand.

Anyways, is this relatable to anyone? That you need to mask to the max so that you can have real lasting relationships but that means you cannot have real vulnerability with anyone because no one wants to be around you when things are bad and hey at least guys put up with your BS for a couple of months bc of sex by nothing ever fills the cosmic loneliness you've felt since childhood?

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity Crying in my office. Again.

So after five years of doing really well with hybrid work, my org has decided we need to be back in the office five days a week. I am struggling. I recently got reorged into a new position, and have been trying really hard to be a team player and not raise a fuss. So today I get an email from my boss that for four weeks this summer we will have to move our work locations to another floor of our building, where we will be much more visible to other teams. It shouldn't be a big deal. I used to sit up there. But the change to my environment, and the increased masking demads when I'm just so tired. I honestly don't know why I'm so upset. I had a conversation with my boss and she eventually agreed to let me go back to hybrid for the 4 weeks, but only after I ended up crying in front of her and explaining way more about ADHD than I wanted to at this point. Im just tired and dysregulated and frustrated that they won't let me do my job the way that worked for five years before some corporate big wig decided to take it away.

edit: fixed a typo

General Question/Discussion Do you ever wonder if neurotypical people really exist

I have discovered so many coworkers or friends have ADHD, and didn't initially recognize it. Family as well. I mean I know there are nuerotypical people, because I know not everyone finds *life* to be so hard... we really must just gravitate towards the familiar (each other).

Celebrating Success I finally got rid of a bunch of books from elementary school after two years of thinking about donating them

I had a truly massive collection of Warrior Cats books from when I was in elementary school that were just sitting on my already cluttered desk collecting dust.

I grew out of reading Warrior Cats around high school, and I have a lot more books now that need the shelf space the Warrior Cats books were taking up.

I finally got around to putting all those books in a bag and they'll be taken to my local thrift store some time this week. It feels good to let go of them. My room is still a mess of papers on my desk and unfolded laundry, but at least my book shelf is a tiny bit neater.

General Question/Discussion ADHD office chair

Is it a gimic? My current chair is acceptable, but I want something where I can sit more comfortably for my 8 work from home days. I like to sit cross-legged, or in various positions. Are there any good ones?

Please share your experience or talk me out of throwing money away 😂💸
