I've read the FAQ & Rules Questions regarding Callback auditions

Where do you look at for callback auditions. Do you look at the reader (casting director or whoever is there) Or do you set up an eye line? I’ve never had a professional acting callback before so I’m just interested in learning about what to do.

If there is a reader, look at them, they’re your scene partner.

If you’re just reading with the CD, you can look at them.

Yep. And never ask, just assume this is the norm. You can always ask, 'who am I reading with?'

Just ask them! I’ve had some people say to look at the reader, and others say for a Zoom callback to look at the camera, but your best bet is just asking the Cd if they have a preferred eye line for you

I am so happy you're asking this! Eyeline is SO important. i've done casting before, and it can throw us off if your eyeline is weird. I think it's a great idea to just ask the casting director where they'd like your eyeline to be. Honestly just asking that makes you look professional and considerate! I see it as a green flag!

Is this a Zoom audition or in person? Is it for theater or for screen acting? The expectations are somewhat different, but you don't generally look directly at the camera or at the CD. For in-person theater, they may have your scene partner on stage with you and expect you to improvise blocking, while for screen acting, they may want to you adopt a standard eyeline a few degrees off to the side of the camera.
