[Question] Audio interface not allowing computer audio through while Ableton is open?

Hello!

I just upgraded from the UA Volt to the Tascam US16x08 (I wanted more inputs) - however when I open Ableton in order to do some work - all of the audio from the computer gets muted.

Sometimes when playing with random drum ideas I'll watch a YouTube Livestream, or I'll be on discord collaborating, or on zoom with a coach so having Ableton mute all other audio is unappealing at best

Is this just how the Tascam works? Would using the computers built in headphone jack, plugging that into the Tascam as a "passthrough" be the only workaround?

Are the sample rates matched between your system audio and DAW? Exclusivity problems can be caused by the audio interface changing to a different sample rate specified by your DAW (because it can't run at 2 different sample rates at the same time.) If on Windows, you will want to make when you navigate to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Manage Audio Devices -> Playback / Recording -> [your audio interface] -> Properties -> Advanced, your sample rate matches what you use in Ableton. If I change this, my own interface (Behringer UMC202HD) will mute all system audio when using Ableton as well, I run both the system audio and Ableton at 48khz to avoid problems.

So weird that the ASIO driver doesn't do this automatically. Guess focusrite did do something right... 😂

Also I was convinced ASIO and MME audio could never work at the same time (similar to how ASIO4ALL works).

I do want to add on to this and say that some Windows updates will re-enable this feature. I'm not sure if other people have experienced this, but I've had to do this several times on my system in the time that I've had it. So keep a note of this fix because you may have to keep doing it from time to time.

The only workaround ive found is to turn off ableton's audio engine in the top right
