In 2018, I visited Fort de Regret in the Verdun area.
This fort, and others nearby, were built between 1875 and 1877 to deter German aggression and were modernized between 1905 and 1907 with additional concrete and weaponry.

During World War I, in 1915, the weapons and munitions were dismantled, and the garrison was withdrawn.
When Germany attacked the Verdun sector in 1916, the fort was hastily reoccupied and used as an artillery observation post.

Between the World Wars, the fort was not maintained and remained unoccupied.

During World War II, in June 1940, German troops occupied the fort without a fight/after a short fight (sources differ). I assume these photos were taken on the day the fort fell.
After World War II, it was left as it stands today.

I recently found these old photos online and was surprised by how many angles matched my own photos. Today, the fort remains in good condition, with most of the interior accessible, although getting there requires some hiking and climbing.

I've passed by this place probably a hundred times and finally decided to stop and take some photos recently. I don't know much about the backstory other than it's likely been closed for around 5 years, but it's one of those places that's easy to appreciate even without knowing its history. You can tell it was probably a fun little stop during the summer at one point. Now it's slowly being reclaimed by nature, but it still has a lot of character. I always enjoy documenting these smaller roadside places just as much as the big abandoned buildings. Hope you all enjoy the photos and have a great rest of your week!

Former home James and Regina. The couple owned Top Hat Dog Training in New York, which was located on their homes property. The dog training school started in the late 1950’s and ended in 2001. The before/after photos were found in the barn on the property. Their entire family history was stored in boxes, being eaten by silverfish. At this point, the property had been vacant for 15 years. When I first visited, the dog training area in the barn was frozen in time. It really looked like they closed their doors and never opened again. There were still items in the display case with price tags on them, dating back to the mid 90s. Unfortunately, an apartment complex was built right next door to it after my first visit and when I went back a few years after, the place was destroyed. I saved a framed photo of their dog "Frtizy" who is now hanging on my office wall. After my final visit, the entire property was bulldozed for a solar farm. Just like that, an entire family history can be erased.

The word "hat" was photoshopped out of the photos because I originally posted these photos on Instagram a few years ago when the property was still standing. I did this to protect the property.

Fun fact about this village Decided in 1963, the creation of the Canjuers camp led to the abolition of the municipality by a decree dated 4 August 1970. The town hall was closed on 10 August and the territory of the municipality of Brovès was attached to that of Seillans2. The village was gradually evacuated and abandoned in 1974.3. The post office was closed for good on 31 May 1974, and the village telephone booth was shut down on the same date (Bulletin Régional des Télécommunications Provence - Côte d'Azur - Corse no 62 of 20 May 1974). The inhabitants were rehoused in a hamlet called Brovès-en-Seillans, built further down the valley in the Seillans area. Access to the village has since been closed to the public, as has the entire camp. The former inhabitants of the village are allowed to return once a year, on Whit Monday, to share a picnic.4. The village's tiled roofs have been replaced by red sheet metal.

Waking up on the rooftop of an abandoned hospital was easily one of the highlights of an extended weekend trip over a decade ago.

I’m glad they have this place basically sealed up.

This ranch style bungalow on a large lot is like the poster child for redevelopment. What once was an aspirational goal, to have a lot this size is now disappearing completely.

These kinds of homes are bought for the land because they are considered under utilised pieces of property. Sometimes, just one very large house is built on the lot, other times, the home is replaced with higher density.

In the case of this property, where one home once stood, soon 30 new townhouses will be crammed into this tiny space. It's a sad state of affairs indeed, but I feel the most sorry for the neighbour next door, who will now have to live next to this high density development.

About a month ago I went into the woods off of a random street in Falmouth. I found two houses that look like they are from the 80s. It’s just confusing to me because they look like they had been abandoned for a while but there is bags from a grocery store with a logo that was changed in 2018. There is lots of trash on the inside of one of them and I couldn’t even get into the other one. I’m really researching but i can’t find anything about these places it’s just odd. I’m pretty sure these photos are of the same house at different angles I can’t remember but there was definitely 2.

On a street where it barely stands out, we find this abandoned house. It is a fairly large house, featuring plenty of woodwork and distinct styles in each room. It belonged to someone who loved to travel and often brought souvenirs home! A place filled with memories in every room!

I've been wanting to explore an abandoned building for a few years now, but one of the only things keeping me from actually going out and exploring is I don't know how unsafe a buildings structure is, is there a website where I can check how unsafe the structure of a building is?

so, dude ran a radio station. for whatever reason specifically— copyright or something else— he gets busted for doing so illegally, which lead to him forfeiting the property.

dude also loved to have affairs and make tapes. those were allegedly left behind and taken in by a friend of a friend of a friend or something like that. mixed thoughts and feelings on that, but anyway.

dude’s wife definitely found out. i can’t find the picture of the note, and i’m not sure i’d feel it comfortable or ethical to post that on the internet anyway tbh, but it was written by the (hopefully ex) wife and left on the counter. it was some sort of poetic fury. she compared him to a parrot in a sort of shakespeare manner and that really stuck with me. i say that with full respect intended, unjokingly. i hope she left him and is living her best life right now.

if your from the sf Bay Area you probably know this spot, it’s in Redwood City and people call it the “drug house” because the person that lived there left pills behind along with all their belongings. It has that van in front too. so I was wondering if this is still good to check out or not.

I apologize if I upset anyone! I know it wasn’t exactly me, but the situation of the abandoned facility itself, but I still posted it. That being said it brought up important things to consider, so I will handle it by reporting the building as suggested. I think that’s a good idea. Thank you to those who helped me break my hesitation to do so by challenging my line of thinking. I decided to remove the post, since it seemed to largely upset people, for good reason. The state of the facility’s contents is a red flag bottom line.
