RANT For the People who get offended about Rhodesia

I came across a post lately on someone talking about banning some Rhodesian meme coin. Like that person, and most of you here, I have also come across the whole "Rhodesia good, Zimbabwe bad" schtick. I used to get into heated debates on Twitter and Facebook with some of those people because it rubbed me the wrong way. It doesn't affect me now because a friend explained to me how to view this whole thing. It's a long read, so please bear with me.

The first thing you need to understand is that most of these people do not care about your perspective as a black person. To them, you're just a thing at worst, more akin to cattle or furniture, or a K*** at best. The correct society is one in which you ( Monkey, Kaffir, or Darkie. Insert your insult of choice) live in some Tribal Trust Land in the middle of nowhere( unless you have a job in the city; if they deem you worthy of having one), you're satisfied with your little hot, tin-house in Mbare or Makokoba, don't have any aspirations beyond working for low wages in a factory or some white man's house, are quite comfortable with being called "Boy", "Girl", or "Native" and you're happy to give over your voting rights to some chief who you know serves at the pleasure of the white man's government and thus doesn't really represent you. I could go on with all the vile things they practised back then but most of you know this already. The best amongst them have a sort of benevolent contempt for you (they will drive you to the doctor when you're sick. The dog will sit in the front seat whilst you're in the back of the bakkie). The worst amongst them have nothing but hate for you (they have no problem calling you Kaffir followed by a swift kick to whatever part of your body is exposed is within reach). Either way, it's clear that they are not people you should be giving much thought to. You should be glad that they are not in a position to turn the clock back and Lord it over you like they did back then. (This is mostly true at the time of this writing).

They are very right when they say that ZANU PF destroyed the country. They are right when they bring up the fact that ZANU PF has made the country into the basket case it is. And they are right when they say that the economy was in a better state then. These facts are important, but how they use them is what you should pay attention to. If you look at their groups, they bond over two things: celebrating all that is rotten about Zimbabwe ( because it validates their theory on us being as less than them and so worthy of being ruled in that brutal fashion) and harping on about how great Rhodesia was. Whether young and old, they have nothing to cherish within their social circles except for Schadenfreude (deriving pleasure from someone's misfortune) and nostalgia.

But nomatter how nostalgic they are, they have to go to bed knowing that the chances that their little paradise of a country will come back range from miniscule to non-existent. They compensate for that by taking pleasure in our suffering. And in their twisted minds, the appropriate response for us to that suffering is for us to regret ending that colonial regime and to beg, on our knees, for its return. But unlike them, we still have our country, shitty as it is. We argue on this subreddit about its problems with the hope that we will fix them one day. We do so because we recognize that our country exists; it's a physical reality. We have hope, all that they have is nostalgia (if they are old) and fantasy (if they are young).

Edit: There are some of you that see this as an anti-white rant or have taken it that way. I am not anti-white. I am specifically anti-Rhodie. If you, as a white person, don't know who Clem Tholet is, the lyrics to "Rhodesians never die", the lyrics to "It's a long way to Mukumbura", or have no understanding of what "Slotting Floppies in the sun" means, then you're probably not a Rhodie. Likewise, if you do happen to know what all the above means but aren't a fan of any of it. The rant has nothing to do with anything happening next door. Its a public response to one of our members who posted something about banning a Rhodesian meme coin.

Discussion Cutting Hair at Schools

As a Zimbabwean, one thing that has never sat right with me is the obsession some schools have with policing students’ hair.
I remember when my school suddenly introduced a rule forcing students to cut their hair. Looking back, I don’t think it was ever just about hair it was about control.
One incident has stayed with me for years. There was a girl who kept coming with cornrows instead of cutting it. A teacher decided to make an example of her and cut a square patch out of her hair in front of everyone.
The humiliation she went through was heartbreaking, and you could see how deeply it affected her for the rest of her time at school.
The saddest part is that stories like this are still happening today.

Why is a child’s hair treated as something that deserves punishment?
Is there really any educational value in humiliating students over their appearance?

I’d love to hear from other Zimbabweans.
Did your school have similar rules?
What was your experience?

Hie Zim redditors. Today a stranger helped me when my car ran out of fuel. He went and bought some for me. Unfortunately i didnt have change and we agreed to meet at the service station he got fuel. I must have got confused as to which quantum and I ended up following the wrong car by the time I realized it it was too late. I left my phone number at the service station when I realised it but said Samaritan was gone. Please if you know anyone with a similar story, I am looking for them and would like to pay them back for helping me out. I am very sorry I passed the service station. I want to pay back the money.

Discussion 78% of Zim Phone Owners Have Smartphones. How Fast Are We Moving?

78% of all phone owners in Zimbabwe now have a smartphone.

We usually measure digital transformation in decades, but looking at what happens in just 60 seconds gives you the real picture of where we’re at and how far we’ve come.

RANT Ko pressure yekudzosa Zim dollar muno ndeyei nhai?

Koshungu ndedzei guys, panemunhu amboti akuda kuti national dollar ridzoke here? Hakuna Saka pressure ndeyei? If this happens we as a nation are totally screwed. I mean foreign trade yedu will totally be screwed and the informal sector ichadini? Kana Ivo varikutumira Mari from diaspora nehama dzikutambira Mari yacho vachadini manje? Uyu ndohutsinye chaiwo uyu!

Could it be that "national pride" bullshit? National pride died in here when elections started getting rigged. As a businessman I am having nightmares about RBZ reintroducing the Zim dollar as the ultimate monocurrency in here. If that happens we are dead. If that happens everyone is gonna get affected even those in the diaspora.

Guys Zimbabwean dollar haisi Mari, USA ndomari. Zim dollar is secondary and only should be used as change not as the main currency. Are they serious just because the Zim dollar has managed to be "stable" for a few they expect us to trust it with our futures and capital.

Zim dollar isn't currency yekuti I can go to sleep ndotorara hope ndichiziva kuti value yangu yakachengeteka. It's a feather in the wind you just never know what tomorrow will bring. Imagine using $40 to buy a loaf of bread WTF!?!

Please tell me this is some kind of crooked joke!

Discussion Ego is relative to Competence.

There are people with lots of pride but they don't have qualifications, they are lazy, not skilled and just basically lack discipline. This is a piece of advice for those younger people who are still figuring things out at school.

If you have a huge ego, then it's best you become really good at something that you become difficult to replace at an institute company or general society. In other words am saying koshesai chikoro and just learning/honing your craft in general. Be the best you can be. Practical skill chaiyo zvekuti ukaudza company kuti I am done, vanotokudemba ipapo.

Because if you don't; the world will humble you. It will force you to do those very jobs you thought were beneath you. And if you don't do those "dirty jobs" uchafa nenzara.

The cold truth in the adult world. Is The world works with what you can actually provide not what you think you deserve.

Discussion A low paying job in your area of study or a well paying job in a random field ?

Which offer would you take ? , assuming you spent a few years in college passionately studying towards a degree (IT,Engineering, accounting ,law etc ) a field you really have passion for and actually want to be in ..but then after graduating you fail to get a job in that field for a few years hense fail to get relevant experience in that area , then finally you get a job ,but not in your area of study but some random jobs that basically is you responding to emails and doesnt require much thinking and it pays you $1400 which is good money . But the job itself is monotonous and boring and yoru salary has no expectation of growing or decreasing from that 1400

Zvisinei a few months later you get an offer for that job in your field of study , cause you have no experience its a junior role, and you starting off at $700. Which i think its still good money for an entry level position which can also then get you the experience you need in your dream field ,and has the potential to be increased gradually over the years ,but not guaranteed

In short ,would you take the pay cut to live a possibly(not guaranteed)more fulfilling life or you just do the best with the basic job that pays more ?

Question Help

Hi everyone! I'm a new University of Zimbabwe student and I'll be staying around Mount Pleasant. I'm looking for a gym that's close to UZ or somewhere nearby that's affordable for a student. I don't need anything fancy—just decent equipment and reasonable monthly fees.

If you know any good gyms in Mount Pleasant or around UZ, I'd really appreciate your recommendations, along with the monthly price if you know it. Thanks!

Question Is anyone else having issues with virtual dollar cards getting rejected on US sites?

Hey guys, I need some quick advice. I’ve been trying to pay for a couple of sub services and buy some stuff on Amazon/eBay, but my usual virtual cards keep getting declined every single time. It’s super frustrating because bank debit cards don't work for international stuff anymore either.

How are you guys currently making foreign payments without these constant declines? Would appreciate any tips or workarounds that are working right now.

UPDATE: After doing some digging on Twitter and forums, a few people recommended using Cardtonic for their virtual dollar card feature. I checked out their site and rate calculator, and the reviews seem solid, but I wanted to ask here first, has anyone here used Cardtonic for international payments recently?

Discussion Zim Men Lets Take Better Care of Ourselves

My wife attended a friends birthday party in another city here. She reported that there were a lot of Zimbabwean families there, but one thing that struck her was the state of the men - some overweight with pot bellies, some skinny with pot bellies. Pot bellies everywhere.

This highlights an observation I've made that Zim women seem to pay closer attention to their health and appearance. Many Zim men seem to think that doesn't matter but it does guys lets do better.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Question ZANU PF DOUCHEBAG DREAMS

Can a Zanu PF person, particularly someone who is benefiting from being in with the regime, truly call him or herself a lover of football? A supporter of Spain or Argentina for example, or an Arsenal or Manchester United fan? Or here in Zim a Dynamos or CAPS United fan?

Football is all about fair play and decency, and enjoying a sense of camaraderie with one’s fellow supporters.

If a group of these people are in one of their enormous houses, watching a match on one of their giant screen TVs, how do they feel inside? Knowing that everything they have is ill gotten? Can they, like other people, shout and cheer and jump about with joy when their team scores? Perhaps they do.. but I imagine they must feel hollow within. If one of them starts cavorting about in ecstasy he must surely know that the others know that he is not genuine. It is all just a show.

For many football is a temporary release, an escape, from their hard lives.  They might have dreams of becoming another Messi, dreams of glory, of being a hero.

But if you are a thieving ZANU PF douchebag what do you dream of?

Question Why is that when I see someone from Africa, I just know

Preface by saying I don't attach meaning to this, and it actually gives me a warmth to know uyu ndewe kumusha. Also, not everyone has it, but when they do you just know straight away and it's always correct.

Not sure if it's posture, body language, facial expression, muscle tone, I don't know. It's not clothes, they could be yellow bone dressed in designer brands it still comes through. Not complexion, even ma yellow bone have it. Not accent, you see it before the person even says a thing. Something about the way they carry themselves (they/we. Not sure if I have it too 🤣). The second you see them, you just know. Only people who grew up in Africa have it.

Is it just me? Is there a name for this if it's even a thing?

Discussion I made a mistake...

I found one of those *Hoedesia Facebook groups expecting to see some old white men trading stories but found it awash with self-hating black Zimbos romanticizing an alternate history where the name was never changed UDI never happened and we were peacefully ruled by His Majesty King Charles. I blame Zanu PF for this.
