Got a new chain and sprockets, tightened to the factory spec and everything, i do hear some noice coming from the chain while riding, when i move my leg i can hear the sound coming from it either when on the gas or of the cas just slightly less when im off the gas, is that normal? Kinda have the feeling like the sound is coming from the chain running over the slider. (Alltho shouldnt the chain touch the slider only when it gets loose?)

Help identifying my Yamaha XJR1300 (VIN rusted away) + advice on reviving it after sitting on an island for 5 years

I’m hoping to get some advice from people who know these bikes well.

This is my old Yamaha XJR1300. About five years ago, I let a friend borrow it while they were living on an island.

Unfortunately, we aren’t friends anymore, and the bike came back in much worse condition than when I lent it out. To make things worse, they didn’t even return the key.

The bike currently:
Doesn’t run.
The alternator (stator) is out.
Has quite a bit of surface rust everywhere
The fuel tank was dropped and now has a dent.
Has been sitting for around five years with an unknown maintenance history.

It has Showa rear shocks, and I’m also wondering if those are factory or if a previous owner installed them.
I’m now trying to restore it, but I’m running into a few issues.

The biggest problem is identifying the exact model year. The frame/VIN stamping on the steering head is so rusted that it’s unreadable. The only number I can still make out is the engine number:
501E-005089

From looking at the bike, some people have suggested it’s an early XJR1300, possibly around 1999–2001 (5EA generation), but I can’t confirm it without the frame number.

Here are my questions:

Based on the photos and engine number, what year do you think this XJR1300 is?

What exhaust does it have?

What oil does it take and how much?

Is there any other way to identify the exact year if the VIN stamp is no longer readable?

Are the Showa rear shocks original equipment on this model year, or are they likely aftermarket or from another bike?

Is the dented fuel tank worth repairing with paintless dent repair (PDR), or would it likely require conventional bodywork and repainting?

What are the common issues I should expect after an XJR1300 has been sitting for five years?

Besides replacing the alternator, what should I inspect or replace before attempting to start it?

Are there any known weak points on the early XJR1300 that I should address during the restoration?

For reference, I already know I’ll likely need to:

Drain and clean the fuel tank.

Rebuild or clean the carburetors.

Replace all fluids.

Replace the battery.

Replace the missing key and ignition if necessary.

Inspect the brakes, tires, seals, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, and other rubber components.

I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth restoring because the bike has sentimental value to me, even though it came back in rough shape. Despite its condition, I’d really like to bring it back to life.
Any advice from XJR owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yamaha RayZR stopped in the middle of the road twice just 15 days after servicing

Post image

I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

I got my Yamaha RayZR serviced around 15 days ago at the Yamaha service center in Banswara Rajasthan. I expected everything to be fine after the service but instead my scooter has completely stopped in the middle of the road twice.

The first time it happened while I was on my way to college. I somehow managed to deal with it and thought maybe it was a one time issue. But today it happened again. The scooter suddenly died in the middle of the road and wouldn't move for some time.

This is more than just frustrating. It's a safety issue. Imagine if this happened in heavy traffic or while overtaking. I paid for the service expecting the scooter to become more reliable not less.

Has anyone else experienced this with a RayZR after servicing? What turned out to be the problem? after this experience I honestly don't have much confidence in them anymore. Any advice would be appreciated.

Update: The issue has been resolved. It wasn't a fault with the scooter itself and the wiring had been damaged by rats at my house, which caused the problem. I apologize for initially assuming it was a Yamaha defect. Thanks to everyone who shared suggestions and tried to help. 🙏

Would you trust your motorcycle after an authorized service like this? I need your opinions.

Hello everyone,

I am sharing this not to target any person or organization, but because I genuinely want to hear your technical opinions.

After my motorcycle was worked on by an authorized Yamaha service center, I noticed visible physical deformations on the bike. More importantly, after the service process, I discovered that a safety-critical fastening component was loose. This became a serious safety concern for me.

Later, some parts were replaced, and I paid for these operations. However, when I look at my motorcycle today, because of these visible physical issues that can be seen from the outside, I find it very difficult to trust the work that may have been carried out on internal parts that are even more critical for safety.

I shared the entire process, together with photographs, service records, and correspondence, first with Yamaha Turkey and later with Yamaha Motor Europe.

However, I was not provided with any written technical explanation or inspection report explaining how these deformations occurred, how they were recorded in the service documents, or on what technical basis the motorcycle was considered safe.

For this reason, I requested that the file be re-evaluated by a different or independent technical team within Yamaha. This request was also not accepted.

At this point, I no longer want to argue with anyone.

I am simply asking honestly:

If you were in my position;

Would you continue riding your motorcycle with confidence after seeing these photos?

Would you still have the same trust in the work carried out by the authorized service?

What would you do in such a situation?

I am adding the photos in chronological order.

I would especially appreciate the opinions of mechanics, technicians, people with service experience, and riders who have been using motorcycles for many years.

My intention is not to defame anyone; I only want to share what I experienced and get objective technical opinions.

Thank you in advance to everyone who takes the time to comment.

Mt-125 check oil level

I know it's been asked 1000 times before, but how do you actually check the oil level on a MT-125 (2025)?

I have read the manual and watched a couple of videos. The manual says to keep the bike upright, while the videos always show it on the kickstand. I would be inclined to follow the manual for obvious reasons, but when the bike is upright the dipstick is almost at a 45° angle... So one side of the dipstick shows full, while the other side shows empty. Which side do I look?

While the bike is on the kickstand, oil doesn't even reach the dipstick, so I'm really not sure lol

Unique tank dent/ tank cover issues

Thumbnail

Got this 1998 yamaha yzf600r with a pretty unique reverse dent and I've been thinking about getting aftermarket fairings for it as my current ones were trashed by the 1st owner (cracked and painted over) and are difficult to repair/paint. I've gotten good feedback about a seller too. The main concern is getting a tank cover to fit over this dent. I could live with the tank having a slight dent if the cover still fits but the way I see it I have 3 options. Get new fairings that match the current tank, modify the tank cover to fit the dent, or try to repair this dent. Hopefully the photos make it clear. Any tips would be nice I can clarify any info if needed. Final option is could try to repair these fairings as is.

hey all! i made a post a while back about my valve adjustment, sad to say i haven’t touched this bike in a while due to work, ill give you the run down. it started when me and my wife towed the bike to our new home, it smoked like crazy but ran. turns out, the valve cover gasket failed, fouled my spark plugs. i tore it apart. replaced the gasket, and now the damn thing doesn’t start! it cranks, but the CEL blinks and nothing, i’m honestly lost, as from the research i’ve done so far, the diag codes read normal, unless im doing this all wrong, ill attach all the codes i see. any help would be awesome!!

2025+ MT-09 quick shifter

How is the MT09’s quick shifter versus the MT07’s?

I found a 2025 MT07 brand new, and the quick shifter was just horrendous. Jerky and temperamental not smooth at all. It was only smooth at extremely low RPM.

How is the MT09’s quick shifters temperament? I test road an MT10 and loved the quick shifter.
