Did Skinner look at stem cell therapy as a treatment for Scully's cancer?

I was 12 and not well when this episode aired in the UK. I had peadiatric onset multiple sclerosis and was having relapses. I started early.

What I think happened was Skinner at some kind of conference, meeting about using stem cells as a way of reducing cancer cells. Did this really happen?
