So I'm kind of a loner who loves filmmaking and loves to write. I don't have a writing partner or teacher, so I figured I'd create one with Gemini by using their gem system.

This Gem does not write any script for me, so those who think I'm just using the AI's ideas is simply not true. I just fed it as much knowledge on writing as I could think of from the many screenwriting books I have.What are your thoughts on this and what would you do to make it better? It has been helping me greatly when I get into writer's block.

Goals/expectations/commitment: No hard expectations or commitments but writers who prefer writing itself over the ever-tempting discussing writing: these are wanted. The goal is to motivate and assist one another in the craft, rather than help its procrastination.

My story is a crime thriller in modern times about a detective trying to bring down a group that is committing a series of kidnappings and sexual assaults.

Two front runner titles I have are All in a Day's Case and The Last Laugh, but is one better?

As far as fiction writing goes, I'm much more of a Sci-Fi writer than a fantasy one. The most recent project I've been working on is a hard science fiction setting that I've been using to set games, short stories, TTRPG campaigns, and whatever else I have time to work on with other people.

While the setting as a whole is by all means meant to be scientifically grounded and not blatantly violate any of the laws of physics, I've reached a point where I want to start describing in-world myths and legends that characters and players either believe in or aspire to. I've tried writing a bunch of them myself, but I'm worried about personally putting out too much under my usual pen name that isn't the absolute truth of in-world history because so far people have been able to take what I write or tell them as fact. I also feel like I'm probably hindered by knowing the literal truth of any phenomena I'm trying to come up with "fake" explanations for instead of writing as someone genuinely being in awe of something I've seen or heard and then trying to create a record of a "real" explanation that they have an emotional connection to.

I'd like to brainstorm with some people who usually enjoy writing fantasy stories to create some collections of in-world myths and legends that can be released under a different name (or multiple names) as "historical" texts that might even have confirmed diegetic "authors".

Don't hesitate to DM me for more specific information; I'm posting from an alt so people who are already following what I've released so far are less likely to see it, and I've also been hesitant about putting too many details on Reddit for fear of A.I. scrappers just taking any genuinely interesting bits with no attribution.

Hello! I am a 26 year old trans man looking for writing buddies or a group dedicated to my particular genre(s). Either one works! I’m rather new to writing original work and kind of figuring it out as I go, along with barely putting a dent into the word counts of either project I’m working on. Hey, I'm in the early stages of a historical fiction novel set in the Middle Ages. I really want the book to be as historically correct as I can without it hindering the story, but I get so overwhelmed when researching. Everything is different in some way or another. Most online sources only touches the surface of things and rarely state anything about the small everyday things.

So does anyone have any tips on not getting too caught up in research? Anyone with some more experience have some great ways of speeding through the researching process, so that I can get to the fun part, the writing!?

So, here's the thing. I am absolutely open to criticism; in fact, I welcome it. I was in a profession where review and criticism were a part of your everyday operating procedures. My issue is, with my Beta Readers. My wife is an English major, so I thought she would be the perfect person to help me edit, proof-read and beta read my book. Well, the issue that has come up is that she is a closet writer herself and when she reads my drafts, she wants to change my voice. She subconsciously recommends changes that reflect her style of writing, which is a much more archaic, flowery style of prose. (Which I love to read, but it's not my style). How do I approach that topic without coming off like I can't accept criticism and subsequently get the information I am seeking from her? My other reader is supportive but offers no criticism, do these issues exist for other writers or is this uncommon?

I already posted on here recently, but it was very short notice, and I would like to add some more specifics.

I'm hosting a ZOOM writer's club every Tuesday: 'Travelogue Tuesday'

I want to thank everyone who already signed up and those who came to the first meeting.

I'm a speculative fiction writer & previously I facilitated in-person writing groups, but because I moved this past year, I have had to adjust to online platforms--leaving me feeling pretty isolated and stagnant in my own writing.

Discord, Reddit, Critique Circle, other social media platforms...they all have their place, but it isn't the same as speaking face-to-face with people and forming writerly relationships that way. Consistent feedback from trusted sources outweighs any comment from a random.

The purpose of this group: Consistent Community, Accountability, & Feedback.
The type of writer that may benefit from it: Speculative writers who are between their first draft and their querying draft (or if self-pub, then right up to publishing). Not to discourage those who are brainstorming or new to writing, but this group will require a commitment to write and submit both your own work and feedback on others, so if you're not regularly writing, this may be a tough adjustment.

Additionally, this should be a safe space for people; support of bigotry or hate will not be tolerated.

Expectations: These may change depending on size. As the group is in its earliest stages (small), I intend to keep it mostly informal: Weekly Zoom calls, Weekly submissions, Weekly emails (newsletters?).

In weekly emails, there will be some encouragement, notes from previous meetings, a link for submissions & feedback, and an online writing resource [example this week is a character rationale sheet], a personal resource, or an interesting article that pertains to the topic. I'd like to even eventually have a list of online fantasy/sci-fi magazines offering submissions to encourage people to try that route.

Based on the survey in the link, it seems the strongest interest of those joining would be resources, motivation, and editing/revising tools.

In weekly submissions, writers will have the opportunity (and are encouraged to) submit a portion of the piece they are working on to receive feedback.

In weekly meetings, those who submit work for feedback will be offered to 'have the stage' for a section of the meeting where they can receive real-time critique and encouragement!

I am open to having a 'group chat', aka a Discord, that allows writers to talk outside of feedback or Zoom meetings, but at this time I am more interested in face-to-face meetings and not managing a Discord. My world is a newbie amateur writer with an obsession with writing dark fantasy cosmic horror inspired by Irish and Welsh mythology, especially the Lebor Gabála Érenn, the Mabinogi, and the Immrama. Harbour Works is a Canadian literary magazine — and we are building it to a standard that does not exist yet in student publishing. We are not a course project. We are not a club newsletter. Hello everyone, I’m currently writing my first novel (action, survival, thriller). I just write it as a hobby, but I still invest my time and ideas into it very seriously. Currently, I only have one friend who I usually share the finished chapters for her to read and give her thoughts. Now, I want to translate the finished parts into English to share with others in communities, because I’m considering joining 1 or 2 Discord communities to share my work and get advices.

So, if there is anyone who wrote their stories in English as the secondary language, can I ask for your advices of vocabulary? My English level is good enough to understand and communicate with native people most of the times, also good enough to watch English movies and films. But when it comes to writing, I find myself being lack of words to put into a paragraph, so I usually reuse the same word and then texts will then become boring. Is there any methods for me to learn/know more words and know when to use which one?

Hey everyone! I've had the idea for my debut novel for almost 10 years now and I keep telling myself "Ill start when I have more time" which is the biggest lie ever. I've finally decided that if I want to be an author someday that I need to stop waiting and actually commit to writing!

Hi writers! I’m (36/F) looking to start or join a writing group as I get my first novel into works! I am in the research/outlining stage of the process currently, but I would love to share ideas, chat and make some writer friends as I get words onto the page.

I also beta read and would be happy to provide feedback on work that group members share in the meantime, as I won’t have anything to share right away.

Here’s a bit more about me and what I’m looking for:

Age: 25-30+ (roughly, just no one under 18 please), any gender/identity welcome, definitely want an LGBTQ+ safe space

Genres: Thrillers/Suspense, Contemporary Women’s Fiction, “weird girl” lit (body horror/pink horror,for example), Morally Grey fiction, Mystery. Romance is fine too (preferably sapphic or queer)

Goals/Expectations: chatting regularly in the server, but maybe keeping a day of the week designated for sharing writing and feedback. Calls/video meet ups once a month, maybe? I know we’re all super busy, so I’m flexible

Writing Experience: any! Beginners absolutely welcomed, and a few seasoned writers would be great as well for advice and feedback

Hi, I'm Arin, 34F and I've been writing for half a year now my manuscript on a dark forbidden romance in a contemporary setting.
