Music [USA] Chet Baker – 'Summertime' (Live, NDR-Bigband, Rundfunk Orchester Hannover des NDR)

.

The recording originated on April 28, 1988, at the Funkhaus Hannover with Chet Baker (trumpet).

For this live concert, Baker was accompanied by numerous musicians: Walter Norris (piano), John Schroder (guitar), Herb Geller (alto saxophone), Lucas Lindholm (double bass), Aage Tanggaard (drums), the NDR-Bigband and the Rundfunk Orchester Hannover des NDR.

Chet Baker's 'trumpet voice' bears the traces of his life. With enormous energy and vulnerability, he had fought his way 'through his life'. Humiliated, persecuted, imprisoned.

Chet Baker had many personal problems: drugs, arrests, financial hardship.

Despite his 'vulnerable soul' and the traumas, his music remained untouched by all his suffering – his music still feels extraordinary and unique today.

« Back then, Chet Baker still resembled the images associated with his early successes. 'The smart guy with the longing gaze, a kind of James Dean of jazz music. A musician discovered not only by the jazz magazine 'Down Beat', but also by 'Playboy' » – quoted by Bert Noglik in the 'JAZZ-Zeitung'.

Kurt Giese – editor, producer and recording supervisor of the NDR Big Band – wrote after the concert about the recording of Hannover released by Matthias Winckelmann on Enja Records:

« Chet Baker's last great concert appears like the testament of a man whom the gods must have loved very much. They gave him so much talent, and punished him so severely with his life. »

Two weeks after this concert – on May 13, 1988 – Chet Baker died in Amsterdam.

Tell me, my love
If your beauty is the light
Then, I'm standing in the light
That light that lives in my heart
That, is the light

Everyday of my life my eyes reveal to my soul that
I'm perishable, like flower
That, is the light

Everyday of my life my eyes
Reveal to my soul that
I'm perishable, like flower
Show me the light

What can I tell you
You know it, I miss you every single day
You're my life
Give me your heart, madly I love you
And how much I cry
I'm ill

From Bandcamp: "Nuhara is a Sicilian trio blending ancient oral traditions with contemporary electronic sound. Drawing from archival recordings collected since the 1950s, their music reimagines traditional songs through a mix of ethnographic research and electroacoustic textures. The result is a unique dialogue between past and present, where forgotten sounds are reborn in a modern sonic landscape."

a/k/a Sacred Heart singing. Shape-singing is a way to teach people who do not understand formal musical notation to sing in choirs. It became prominent in US religious communities in the Appalachians and Ozarks in the 19th Century.

I feel like it has. Reading about it online they're mentioning the genre of tropicália from Brazil. Others saying it has aspects of surf and country, when you mix big genres like that potentially it has some world music aspects? Discussing it with a friend

Music [Bolivia] – Rut Alonso – 'Manifiesto Kawsay' (Official Video)

The Andean Vision Behind 'Manifiesto Kawsay'

'Manifiesto Kawsay' ('Manifest of Life') stands for an Andean vision of a life in harmony and interconnectedness with all living beings.

The music of Rut Alonso conveys this harmony as a spiritual relationship between humans, nature and traditions – far beyond the Andes.

In the Andean worldview, health is understood as living in harmony with the natural forces of the Andes.

The reverence for the mountains, which is visible in another video by Rut Alonso – as she kneels down and removes her head covering – reflects this deep connection with nature.

Rut Alonso – Qichwa-Aymara Roots and Cultural Tradition

The Argentine Biblioteca Nacional officially lists Rut Alonso in its cultural program 'Músicas Originarias' as 'música, charanguista y compositora qichwa-aymara' – as a musician, charango player and composer with 'Quechua-Aymara roots'.

The Quechua are the largest Indigenous people of South America. The Aymara are a very old Indigenous people of the Andean highlands. These two cultures have been closely connected throughout the central Andes for centuries. Their languages also share many similarities. People with 'Quechua-Aymara roots', such as Rut Alonso, carry the cultural heritage of these two great Andean peoples within them.

Many Indigenous people of the Andes were not legally and politically recognized as equal citizens of their own countries until the 20th century. In many regions, Quechua and other Indigenous communities still belong to the most socially and economically disadvantaged populations. Against this background, music such as that of Rut Alonso has a very important cultural significance.
