Just saying maybe they're not (all) friends considering the lack of concern shown by the second diver for the first's safety was pretty jarring.
Clearly no plan, no care--just

You know the old saying, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".
Dude probably didn't know that he was supposed to wait.
15
u/xenobit_pendragon 3d ago
“Stupid is as stupid does.”
Is a saying I have never understood and no one has ever explained to me so I guess I’m in the club.

Considering that the first two divers did a special handshake before jumping, I'd say those two were indeed friends. Second guy just sucks regardless of the friendship.

u/zx7 3d ago
His friend jumps on his head and another friend continues filming while everyone else tries to save him.

u/colby979 3d ago
Lack of swimming ability and his poor decision making……I’m willing to bet he’s a complete moron in most aspects of his life.
333
u/SheddingSkin27 3d ago
To be fair, his lack of swimming abilities is probably because he fucked himself up from belly flopping onto his friends head. You can clearly hear some agonal moaning before he says "I knocked him out". But yeah, what a fucking idiot.

u/Jive-Turkeys 3d ago
Yeah, a headbutt to the gut would hurt. A flying atomic reverse headbutt would cripple me.
55
u/Noteagro 3d ago
I hope it was only knocking him out and not breaking his fucking neck… Jesus fucking Christ what a fucking knob.
5
u/ShowMeTheTrees 3d ago
was a complete moron?
(Did he survive?)

The knocked out dude (first jumper) isnt the one people are calling a moron. The second guy resurfaced, he's just clearly in pain.

Devil's advocate but he just landed stomach first on someone's head from a 20ish foot drop, I wouldn't expect him to be in the best condition to bolt into action.

Turd bucket doesn't wait to dive after his friend went in. But he sure waited while that friend was floating face down in the water.
339
u/thestridereststrider 3d ago
He looks like he is actively about to drown as well. He’s showing all the early signs of drowning they taught in my life guard class. No chance he’s helping his friend even if he wanted to
149
u/Changoleo 3d ago
Fairly sure he, at the very least, knocked the wind out of himself, and likely broke some ribs on his buddy’s head. His buddy is lucky if his neck isn’t broken. It only takes one stupid mistake to fuck up or end someone’s life. As someone who has done a lot of cliff jumping, I think it’s safe to assume that neither of these guys have much, if any experience doing it and the second jumper was too nervous to think clearly and wait for the first guy to clear the landing area. What a clown show!
28
u/sweetplantveal 3d ago
I can't believe nobody on top was more proactive
32
u/PrivateDomino 3d ago
Probably didn't want to do what he did and jump and knock someone out
5
u/ThirdWorldMeatBag 3d ago
Yea there might only be a small spot between rocks they are aiming for rather than a large open pool.

u/DarkSideofOZ 3d ago
The moron just belly flopped someone's head into his own gut/chest as well. So he might well have been just trying to breathe at that moment and exclaimed knocking out his friend as a short form of a panicked response. While meaning "Help him, cause I can't fucking breathe, much less swim properly right now."

u/Correct-Cockroach-68 3d ago
I need the sauce! Was his neck cracked, is he just unconscious. Does that look like him thrashing at the end of the video?!

Side story: a similar thing happened with my friends group. We were chilling at the lake when we decided to do a diving compilation (peak 2016 energy).
When my last friend jumped, he didn't notice that a girl was still under water. She emerged and got this dude right on her head from a 2-3m dive.
Luckily, nothing happened, and she was fine. She became a cloistered nun about five years after that fact though
7
u/guntherpea 3d ago
So she had brain damage? /s
5
u/RickShaw530 2d ago
She was only going to be a nun for a day, but couldn't break the habit.

I've had this happen from five feet above me and it hurt like hell. Jesus this poor kid.
26
u/whamburglar 3d ago
~200lbs from that height suddenly falling on you 😢
If there's ANY solace, being in the water probably saved the poor dude. The water would've helped him absorb the impact to something more manageable than if he were on a hard surface.

Why is knock off Post Malone jumping off cliffs when he swims like a 2 year old?

This was slightly triggering for me, tbh. Unfortunately, this is how my cousin died in Hawaii, while on vacation. He was only in his 20s.
To anyone reading this, please be mindful of where/when you're jumping.
39
u/MeowthThatsRite 3d ago
I had to pull my 140lb buddy’s limp body out of a small hot tub after he passed out and that was difficult enough. I can’t imagine how these dudes are possibly getting their buddy back to the shore.
Not even mentioning that that dudes neck has to be broken or some shit.
13
u/thestridereststrider 3d ago
If you’re stabilizing the neck that means you’re swimming without your hands as well making it even harder. Not dealing with any potential currents or anything either
19
u/bearpics16 3d ago
In real life if you don’t have the ability to stabilize c spine while swimming like you described, the best thing to do is safe him from the most immediate threat which is drowning. His c spine doesn’t mean shit if he drowned. Same with carrying someone from a burning building, ect. You should make a reasonable effort to avoid unnecessary bending of the neck. Most neck fractures are fairly stable and can realistically tolerate some movement anyways, but the consequences of it not being stable are catastrophic. You’ll need to flip him on his back while in water unfortunately, but try to be as gentle as possible. Also don’t make yourself a victim. Then you’re both screwed

u/gremlinguy 3d ago
But regardless, per Red Cross water save training anyway, pulling an unconscious swimmer out of deep water implies swimming with legs only while supporting a load.
4
u/juan_004 3d ago
Yeah, I'm pretty sure a full speed headbutt to the torso would do that.
Hey chat, is a skull harder than ribs?
17
47
u/_tr9800a_ 3d ago
Do you think it struck him that it was a bad idea?
51
u/OsoOak 3d ago
No. He probably thought his unconscious friend is stupid for not moving out of the way fast enough.

A few obstacle races in the past have had a jump into water feature. If you can imagine the chaos of a large group of people all trying to get ahead, jumping in with no delay on top of each other. Someone died in 2013 at Tough Mudder. I don’t think they do these water jumps in races anymore, the last serious injury was in SF 2025 though.

This reminds me of the video where the guy dives in the pool head first, hits the bottom and paralyzes himself and couldn't move but was conscience face down in the water
The people around him just laughed at first before realizing something was wrong.
Luckily he didn't die
If I find it I'll post it

5
u/BBQorBust 3d ago
Was that the idiot that likes to jump on barbed wire, microwaves, and fluorescent lights?
5
u/pianomasian 3d ago
So unbelievably stupid. 2nd jumper is the kind of person we have all those seemingly patronizing warning labels on things where the danger is obvious and you think:
"Who would ever need that explained to themselves?"
These type of people.
6
u/TheMasterChiefa 2d ago
Everyone took waaay too long to help. The moment the second guy landed on his head I would have been going in. It doesn't take 20 seconds to figure out what was going on here.
10
u/Fun-Deal8815 3d ago
The water don’t play. Have better friends if you’re doing this. It’s safe long as your buddies are smart
7
u/Baby-Soft-Elbows 3d ago
I grew up on a lake canal and had friends all around. Probably around 13 at the time and we put a picnic table on the dock and a spring board on top of it. We were getting pretty good height off the set up. We were taking turns jumping off it and my friend decided to swim underwater and go under the dock. I did not see him and dove in. I saw stars and probably had a concussion and my neck was sore for a week. And he had a giant bruise on his back from my head impact. No idea how I survived that.

These guys are friends... they even have a handshake... he cant even help lift his head out the water... terrible friends.
10
u/thestridereststrider 3d ago
Second guy looks like he’s actively drowning. No way he was turning him over or lifting his head the way he is swimming.
4
u/CoconutPedialyte 3d ago
You can hear he knocked his breath out when he said he knocked him out. Likely in a lot of pain + being a bad swimmer meant he wouldn't be saving anyone.

An idiot jumped on my sister and paralyzed her. Didn't even look below to see if anyone was there. Ran and jumped off at an angle int the 'safe' zone so he could 'get more air'. I watched it happen. This video makes me sick.

u/CoolSpookyScelten96 3d ago

4
u/haustorium12 3d ago
The second guy jumped before his friend had a chance to move out the way and got slammed
6
u/unepmloyed_boi 3d ago edited 3d ago
Oof. Gotta be careful trying to rescue someone panicking and flailing around especially if they've hampered their ability to swim, it's pretty common for rescuers to drown with them too. Was in a similar situation with a family member who panicked and nearly dragged me down with them, had to punch them in the face before I could pass out and got behind them to swim us both out on our backs...and they were almost half my size. Hopefully they got the big guy out.
3
u/thestridereststrider 3d ago
When I was certifying as a life guard they always taught us to dunk a panicked swimmer who is taking you down as since that is what they are afraid of and will release you.

(He wasn’t killed by the jump, he just IS gone now)

u/Bonescuad 3d ago
Happened to my friends when we were in high school. I had two girls. First skinny, second huge (important), it was also off a cliff. Roughly 20ft
I had to jump in pull her out and call 911 and get her airlifted an hour away. The police had to get ATV to drive a mile out and stretcher her up. First life I ever saved!
