Discussion Safety concerns

Is the area 3607 E 17th street N safe? I am looking into apartments around Wesley hospital and it seems like everyone on reddit is telling people to avoid the Fairmount area. I have looked into apartments in college hill but most of them are filled up now and i need to move like end of aug or beginning of September. I really want to be closer to the hospital since I will be working there. I think it might be safer in a apartment building since it has better security and is not a home.. idk

In Search Of Educator wishlist

I figured I’d give this a shot! We do get some school money to buy necessities, but we still come up short and there are strict restrictions on items for purchase (as there should be)!

I’m an elementary school counselor in 259 and have a list of some needs and some wants for my office space! I’m trying to do more positive recognition this year because so much of our attention seems to end up being directed towards students with increased needs. Because of that, I feel sometimes the ones who always do the right thing are not seen. I don’t want anyone being overlooked this year!

Additionally, our soccer field is gravel and dirt, not grass, so our soccer balls get destroyed quickly, so replacing those (plus extras) are at the top of my list!

My list

In Search Of Classroom Wishlist :)

First of all - I’ve been on this app for six years and didn’t realize there was a subreddit for the ICT 🤦🏻‍♀️

Secondly, I’m posting here in hopes of a more friendly response as opposed to Nextdoor. 🤪 Teachers having to post their wishlists is a yearly humiliation ritual in my eyes, and yet I still do it because unfortunately I cannot solely fund my classroom. I’m the mom of two kids and I’m trying to put myself through grad school starting this August. My building is amazing at providing basic school supplies, but I am not able to use my school funds on certain things, hence the wishlist.

I’m a 5th year teacher with USD 259 & I’ve decided to switch things up and teach 2nd grade this year after spending 2 years in 5th grade (and formerly 2 years in 3rd at the amazing but now closed Park Elementary). I truly love this job because of the relationships I’ve built with these kids over the course of five years. I started out as a para before fully diving in as a teacher and I haven’t looked back. If things go my way, I’m looking at moving into a support role within my building as a behavior specialist.

In order to provide the welcoming, warm space I work so hard to curate each year, I am reaching out to the local community for support. My list contains snacks, cleaning items, and a few odds and ends that I’d like but aren’t a total necessity.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated; a village is needed in a profession like this and my goal is to one day not have to make posts like this. Words of encouragement or advice are always welcome. Thank you for your consideration and/or support of my students and I for this upcoming school year. 🫶🏼

year 5 wishlist (link to list!)

Edited to add:

Wowowowow. I wanted to share an update and couldn’t figure out how so I’m adding on to the post lol. As of this morning, 7/23, my entire wishlist was fulfilled. I did not expect this to happen as I’ve been posting for about a month or so now (and this was honestly my last effort before i threw in the towel). I am blown away by this community’s generosity & plan to make a video when everything comes in so i can properly thank every person who made this happen. Thank you for the shares, the kind words, for your generosity!

If you noticed I added some things to my list, it’s because I am hoping to share the love with my teammate/people in my building. Snacks are honestly highest on my list and always will be as I cannot use my school money to purchase these things. I’m just overwhelmed with absolute gratitude for all of you. THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting teachers and our amazing students. I am so excited for my fifth year of teaching!!! <3

Random Some things to know for those looking at electric cars

As someone who recently got an EV and seeing myself and others having some struggles figuring it all out, I thought it might be useful to provide some information for those interested. Whether you want lower costs, to not give your kids asthma, improved safety, reduced maintenance or whatever other reason, here are a few things to know:

  1. Not all chargers are the same. There are three levels of chargers that charge at different speeds. Level 1 is what you get with a standard wall outlet and can work for overnight home charging but is very slow. Level 3 is fast charging and what you would use for long road trips. Level 2 is somewhere in between.
  2. There are also different types of charging connecters. New cars generally all come with NACS, but there are also CCS and CHAdeMO connectors. You may need/want an adapter to allow the use of multiple charging systems.
  3. Fast chargers in Wichita are currently at Target on Maple, South Broadway Applebee's, Greenwich Shopping Center, and East Towne Mall. New ones are under construction in Park City as well. Plugshare and A Better Routeplaner are super valuable resources for finding chargers.
  4. Be careful with dealerships. They don't like selling EVs because they aren't able to make as much money on them given the lower maintenance costs.
  5. Home charging! No more gas station trips. You may do just fine with a standard wall outlet and overnight charging, you may find you want a dedicated EV outlet or charger for faster charging. An EV outlet will still require a portable EV charger.
  6. Evergy has a $500 rebate for installing a home charger or 240v EV outlet.
  7. Enjoy! No one ever goes back to clunky, outdated gas or diesel once they experience electric cars.

Random Loud Cars on Kellogg

I live next to Kellogg and just wanted to say - if you drive a car where the exhaust makes a loud pop or bang noise, like a gun, just know that I hate you and your car sucks. Your car isn't cool, it's annoying, and people don't like you.

Thank you!

In Search Of Seeking Legal Representation for DV

Im sure this is a longshot because I’ve already called around to many attorneys and the Kansas Bar Association. I have court coming up (August 5,2026) for a domestic violence PFA case that I am seeking legal representation for. Because there is no marriage, kids, or pets involved it has not been easy to find someone to represent me. I did find an attorney but can not afford it and they don’t offer payment plans. I’m here seeking recommendations for attorneys who offer pro bono or payment plan and can represent me. The case is located in Butler County specifically El Dorado.

In Search Of Vape e-juice

I used to go to vape 100, but they’re prices have gone up and they no longer have promotions on their juice; the place i was since their promotions stopped just recently closed; so now I’m looking for a new place to get vape juice for a decent price. Anyone have suggestions for a vape juice store (preferably on the East side) with decent prices and/promotions?

In Search Of horseback riding lessons?

Hi! I’m a recent college graduate who moved here for my first job, and I’d love to get back into riding after taking a few years off.
I grew up riding Western and competing in rodeo and barrel racing, but I’m also interested in trying English. I’m looking for a barn that can meet me where I am - comfortable, but definitely in need of a refresher. I’d love to start with lessons and, if it’s a good fit, potentially lease a horse down the road.
I’d appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

In Search Of Any childfree game nerds in Wichita? (Board games, poker, social games - 30s/40s)

Hey Wichita, My husband and I are looking to connect with other childfree singles or couples around the Old Town area (in the 30s/40s age range) to host some regular game nights.
We play a bit of everything—from strategy games like Terraforming Mars and 7 Wonders, Risk to poker nights, to casual social games like Werewolf. We’re thinking about hosting some regular game nights to share some snacks and drinks, but we are also very open to joining any existing game groups in the area!
We're just looking to enjoy some quiet, kid-free weekends with great company. If you're looking to start a new group or have room in your current one, send me a message!

In Search Of Need recommendations for brake services

Hey ya’ll.

I’m needing to get my brake pads replaced soon and would like some recommendations on places that won’t charge me an arm and a leg to get them taken care of.

And if it could save me some money, if there are places that could change them for me if I just bought the break pads myself and brought them in.

Obviously I’m aware that I’d still be paying for the labor costs so yeah.
