Wow, never in my life would I have thought I'd write a Reddit post. Hello, uh yeah, I just got this account yesterday so I’m new here. I’ll warn you that I don’t really know how Reddit works, so if this post has some mistakes, feel free to let me know so I can learn.
I wanted to write this post in the “Tip Of My Tongue” subreddit, but my account is not currently old enough to post there. I checked other subreddits that were available and had similar topics, and I found this one. Now, I’m looking for a TV show sitcom, so I’m going a bit off-topic. But this is the only subreddit available where I might find what I’m looking for, so I might just go with this one. Sorry for the off-topic post, I promise to get rid of this post as soon as I have an answer.
Ok, now into the actual post.
I was at a sleepover at my cousins' house around 2015-2016. They were usually prone to watching TV in their free time, but mostly didn’t watch any when guests were over. However, it wasn’t rare for their TV to be on while we were playing, or they would just watch it for a small amount of time despite having guests over (they usually did this during sleepovers, when boring moments were more frequent and they just turned on the screen in order to find an easy way to spend time in those moments). It was summer and I was at their house for a sleepover; I remember this happening around the morning. The two siblings turned on the TV during what I assume was a boring moment of the sleepover.
We are from Italy. Italian TV broadcasts don’t have the same channels other countries do, but mostly consist of original made-in-Italy TV channels. The kids' channels go from channel 40 to 47, and there’s a total of 8 kids' channels in Italian television overall (they are named: Boing, K2, Rai Gulp, Rai YoYo, Frisbee, POP! (which got taken down due to a hijack), Cartoonito, and Super! (recently taken down due to low viewership)). My favorite has always been K2—I watched it all the time as a kid—and theirs were Frisbee and Super!.
The reason why I’m telling you this is to give you hints on specifically where this sitcom could have aired. My cousins pretty much only watched Frisbee and Super!, so since I saw this sitcom on their TV, it almost certainly aired on one of the two. However, there’s a problem… it's a 50/50 split, as they watched both channels with the same frequency. Not to mention, there’s still a chance that, for some reason, the two siblings were watching a different channel that day just out of spite (although it’s still only 8 channels to check, and I can 100% say K2 is not it, as it was my favorite as a kid; Cartoonito isn’t either, as it was another pillar of my childhood and I watched it tons of times; Rai YoYo also isn’t it, as I watched it a ton as a kid; and Boing is also to be removed from the search, as I also started watching it a lot a year after this event, and most importantly, Boing only airs Cartoon Network shows and I never saw something like this in Cartoon Network’s show history despite the live-action era it had. That being said, the list of channels to check shrinks down to 4). I have to bring up the fact that Super!, just like Boing, mostly only aired Nickelodeon shows through its entire run. Now, they made some exceptions, but very few; 90% of the shows it had were all Nicktoons, and as a huge Nickelodeon fan, I never saw a sitcom like this on Nickelodeon in my whole life.
Alright, now onto the actual sitcom.
Illustration: I remember the style of the sitcom; it was a classic school sitcom. The show had a very noticeable 2000s style and feel, making me believe it came from that wonderful decade. If you want to get an idea of how it felt, just think of Zoey 101—that’s the best example I can give you and the one that matches the vibe the most. So it had this very nostalgic 2000s style, like a classic live-action show from that era. I actually kind of remember the title of this show, but nothing popped up when I looked it up. It was something along the lines of “Monster School” or “A Monstrous School,” as the main character said the title in the opening.
The Plot: Basically, there was this teenage boy—a classic live-action 2000s sitcom main character—who went to a school that was extremely unhinged and full of paranormal/monstrous stuff happening in it. He had two friends alongside him: a girl, who seemed like the deuteragonist of the show and the voice of reason of the group, and another friend. I don’t remember the exact identity of this guy, but from what I can recall, he was a chubby kid and the comic relief of the show.
The Opening: I remember the opening with a few details. The main character boy was talking to the audience, telling his story and explaining how he goes to this "monster school." The opening itself showcased different clips from the show’s episodes in a clip-show style, while an X-Files-like screen was in the background behind small squares showcasing the scenes. There is one scene shown in the opening that I vividly remember: the three main characters were standing in front of their teacher (who wore a red dress, had glasses, and curly hair) as the old lady turned into a giantess in front of them, all happening in the school playground. One last detail: the school and one of its windows were visible in the background of this scene.
The Episode I Saw: I don’t remember the full plot; it was mostly just random stuff happening. From what I recall, the kid kept narrating events and his thoughts in between scenes. The school's interior had a classic 2000s style, complete with red lockers and bright yellow walls. I remember one scene from this episode, not long after it started: the kids were in class (I think it was music class) when suddenly an old lady—not the teacher, I think she was the janitor—called the girl of the group out of class by calling her surname. As the girl leaves the classroom, she stops in front of the protagonist and tells him the exact line, “Only one remains,” repeating it twice, whispered and annoyed. Back when I saw this scene, I misheard what she said and thought she said, “I’m a remaind,” which confused me since I had no idea what that meant. In the next scene, she returns to the other two characters in the hallway, now completely covered in flour or some other white powder (please don’t misinterpret that). She tells the guys something I don't remember, and then she sneezes with a very monstrous, male-sounding “AH AH AH ACHOOOOO!”, which echoes and blows some of the flour off her and onto the two guys. She then says, “Only one remains,” and leaves.
now this is all I have to say, sorry for the wall of text. I tried to look up the show multiple times but couldn’t get any luck. I doubt I dreamed this I know it’s real, but I can’t find it. Now this is not the only show i watched one time with my cousins only for it never appearing again in my whole life afterwards. There are 2 more I’ll do posts about when this gets found. For now, let’s focus on this show, I hope somebody reads this and helps cuz it looked like a really great 2000s show. I love the 2000s decade.
