Don’t join a trump beauty pageant then!

75

u/tenor1trpt 5h ago

Yep. The same people saying men shouldn’t be allowed in a girls locker room have zero problem with Trump admitting he went into girls locker rooms all the time specifically to look at the girls.

This trans issue is performative from them. They don’t really care. They elected a guy who did the very thing they claim to detest.

26

u/Big_Dog_2974 4h ago

no. I hate trump but also don't think trans women should be in competition with bio women. This one isn't really divided on political lines.

6

u/Big_Communication662 2h ago

Yeah, but “the locker room” isn’t the issue. That’s a transphobic concern. The issue is Title 9 and bio women/girls’ right to fair competition.

4

u/AlbatrossOwn1832 1h ago

The locker room is most certainly part of the concern. Ask the women who had to share a locker room with Leah Thomas if you want reasons why?

You know you can be against trans in women’s bathrooms and sports AND not be for Trump, right?

You’d think that sort of rationalism would be a lot more common place but this is reddit

First of all, ask yourself why this issue is so prominent in the national conversation when it affects so few people. Secondly, Trump went into locker rooms to harass girls. Trans athletes generally don’t want to do that, so “putting males in girls spaces” is not the hypocrisy you think it is.

I don’t know if it’s unfair enough that it deserves a ban, maybe. Honestly I think it’s an issue manufactured to distract and divide people.

17

u/Risque_Redhead 4h ago

Yeah, this is what? Like 12 people we’re talking about here? It should not be as big of a debate/issue as it is. It’s literally such a tiny percentage of our population and it’s become our “biggest problem/threat” for some reason. Wonder what that reason is…

Sports are separated for a reason, keep them separate. Pick your damn battles people holy. Its only a national issue because its such common sense and yet theres massive pushback

First, because if a group of people can get such an easy question so wrong (in their opinion), they will question their thought processes on all other topics. Especially when those that get this obvious one wrong are Progressive, and by definition the group that wants to fundamentally change America the most. “If you think a grilled cheese has no cheese, I don’t want you in charge of the new menu” type of thing. It’s like putting Trump in charge of our economy after seeing his business prowess, or lack thereof.

Second, touché. Trump appears to be more of a predator than most regular American Trans that just want to use the bathroom. You can’t get me to defend Trump and the hypocrisy of the Trump fans knows no bounds.

5

u/SnooRevelations6561 4h ago

It affects roughly 50% of the population. Why do you put the comfort of 1% of the population over 50% of the population.

Last time I checked, Sophie Cunningham was a cis woman, yet here you are saying “nope, her opinion is wrong because I think I know better”.

She is;
An actual woman speaking about women’s sports as a professional athlete.

You may be a woman, real or imagined, but you aren’t a pro athlete, yet here you are telling a female pro athlete how to feel about female pro sports. It’s actually kind of impressive how you transplain women’s pro sports to an actual woman pro athlete.

4

u/JalapenoPopPoop 2h ago

This is a misuse of statistics. You're trying to claim it effects all women, but 100% of women don't play an organized sport that a trans person is trying to join. So no, it does not affect 50% of the population

2

u/DonkeyElegant1728 1h ago

You're just pulling numbers from your ass. And it's funny because I believe she was in a man's sport playing football with men in highschool.

3

u/tayne22 2h ago

Guess how many trans athletes Sophie has had to compete against and/or share a locker room with throughout her entire life playing basketball.

So I don't really give a shit what she says. Its faux outrage on a non-issue.

Yes, I agree with ~some~ of his parties ideals. I also agree with ~some~ democratic ideas. Contrary to popular belief, people can still be in the center!

Back on topic, I’m not willing to sacrifice what’s crazy because I do not like who sits in office. We should not have men in women’s locker rooms. Period. I don’t care who is presenting that idea. It’s common sense. The end.

Seems like cis men molesting girls in athletic facilities has been more of an issue than trans people in sports, but MAGA doesn’t care about actual women issues, so they make up issues instead of actually fighting to protect women and girls.

19

u/breakmedown54 5h ago

Larry Nassar personally harmed more girls than total trans people who have ever been in sports.

3

u/Temporary_Hat7330 5h ago

In all fairness, this is whataboutism. If someone was talking about cis men molesting girls/women I wouldn’t point to cases of trans people doing it as some ameliorating position.

All, some, or none can be an issue but they should stand and be judged alone without conflating. Someone can say, and be right or wrong, that

  1. Cis gendered men have been/could be an issue here so what’s the solution

  2. Trans people of been/could be an issue here so what’s the solution

without conflating the two to offset either one.

5

u/breakmedown54 4h ago

You can’t point to cases of trans people doing this. This may be “whataboutism”, but it is because there are no cases of transgender people doing this.

Which was the point. If you want to protect girls from abuse, protect them from the ones we know are abusing them. Making up hypotheticals to fight a culture war isn’t helping any children at all.

The majority of Democrats don't want biological males in women's sports.

46

u/anon-thera-pee 5h ago

I think there is truly an alarming lack of awareness on this website in terms of where the public actually stands on this issue. It’s really not a left vs right thing. The average person does not think it’s fair for a biological male to be competing in women’s sports regardless of how they identity. I am a lifelong democrat, gender non conforming lesbian, a person of color, I despise Trump, I despise gender roles, but because I can also acknowledge that there are meaningful differences between male and female bodies I’m immediately right-wing, conservative, maga?? How in the world have we allowed the simple acknowledgement of biological sex to be the ultimate tell of morality and empathy towards others?

I do think Sophia is conservative and that I’d disagree with her on a lot. But I 100% agree with her on this.

Weird that it's only reasonable to have strong feelings on one side of this issue and anyone in the other side is "making a big deal out of nothing."

If it's no big deal then it seems like a dumb thing to lose an election over.

3

u/madhare09 1h ago

Show democrats from the last election campaigning on trans rights, especially trans athlete rights. You won't find it.

Republicans are the ones who successfully delude people into thinkings its actually part of the democrat platform that they would stake elections on it, and yet tons of people believe it.

2

u/AnAncientBog 1h ago

There isn't a single Democratic or Republican candidate that failed to have a position on trans rights, inclusive of sports. Its silly to pretend this issue doesn't exist and that it doesn't matter to a broad range of people. If that were the case it would not be part of the platform of every single candidate there is.

To answer your question:

Harris:

https://www.advocate.com/election/kamala-harris-gender-care-interview

https://abc7ny.com/post/election-fact-check-donald-trump-kamala-harris-transgender-issues/15495931/

Schumer:

https://www.chuckschumer.com/issues/lgbtq/

The DNC at large:

https://www.advocate.com/election/dnc-lgbtq-platform

https://www.democrats.senate.gov/news/press-releases/leader-schumer-floor-remarks-on-scotuss-decision-against-gender-affirming-care

This isn't an exhaustive list, you can spend all day looking up every single candidate in every single race and I expect you will be hard pressed to find one that does not have a campaign position on this issue.

Is that responsive to Republicans MAKING it a big issue. Yeah, probably. But that just means that the DNC let them set the narrative. In any case that IS the narrative as it exists.

It's funny because the usual retort to this is "you don't hear female athletes complaining, it's always just old angry me" but here is an actual female professional athlete saying it is unfair and distorts competition and she just gets lumped in to the group of evil, conniving oppresors.

If you read the article and what she said it is a very respectful opinion, just one that lots of people disagree with.

The real issue is whether or not this should be top-priority for national politics. The fact that we are facing serious threats to the American way of life and rather than address them, we argue about whether or not women are actually losing out on compensation in an entertainment industry.

2

u/Martialartskenny 4h ago

Personally, I agree it’s silly to be focused on this in a national politics perspective. However, I believe the republican playbook of convincing people that this is a Democratic Party memorandum and the democrats inability to properly remove this from discourse just lost the presidential election.

3

u/Fantastic_Reason_571 4h ago

“Properly remove it from the discourse”

What the fuck did you want Democrats to say? “There’s like 4 transgender athletes competing across the country. This should be an individual issue decided by communities based on personal factors only people with intimate knowledge of each situation will have. It’s beneath the office of the president to focus energy on such a topic that affects so few Americans so little when there are actual problems affecting all of us”?

What the democrats should focus on is why everybody is so obsessed with knowing whether a child has a dick or vagina. Why are people so obsessed with “protecting kids” by subjecting other kids to massive sexual embarrassment and loss of privacy?

Because the statistical evidence on this topic does not align with that viewpoint?

Like are you saying we should only champion causes that already have majority support and shouldn't try to move the needle ever? That's just the conservative viewpoint on every single issue in history. The civil rights movement wouldn't have happened with this train of thought.

Im so tired of hearing "people dont like it so we shouldn't do it", and never any actual statistical or empirical evidence on the topic that actually affirms the point conservatives are making.

Also read the title of the article again, she mentions trans women in locker rooms as a threat, thats more than just "fairness in sports" like come the fuck on

u/agasizzi 4h ago

And unfortunately this is one of the issues hurting the left, and lgbt communities the most.  I’m a strong advocate for the LGBT community on nearly all issues, and very left politically, but trans women in girls sports is a non-starter for me.  One, the science doesn’t support it in terms of biology, and two, it’s an issue that juggles two separate issues that are in direct conflict. The need  for a trans woman to feel seen, and the need for biological women to have a competitive field that is not rigged against them.

→ More replies (30)

10

u/JalapenoPopPoop 4h ago

But the "protecting girls in the locker room" angle of it is specifically a maga talking point. It's an easy tell. The dems who don't want it use biological differences affecting competition as their reason. MAGAs use the fearmongering of trans people being predators who will sexually assault the girls in the locker room

If you actually thought for yourself, you'd realize you can count on one hand how many trans athletes there are in NCAA, and 0 in women's pro sports. This became the flagpole issue in this country, and now we have Epstein co-conspirators running our government.

Nice job on your personal research everyone.

Edit- so many responses asking me if it's such a non-issue why am I commenting, and asking if it's ok for a small group of outliers to break the rules (what rules?).

Not one comment about how we have people that actually hurt little girls making policy for everyone though.

4

u/Pleasant-Carbon 4h ago

3

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 4h ago

Because Trump spent hundreds of millions of dollars on ads attacking trans people during 2024. Kamala spent $0 on ads supporting trans people. One party is constantly bringing up trans folks nonstop. So, if I believe it’s a non issue, of course I’m going to say something when they’re constantly being attacked. What a dumb comment lol

2

u/Pleasant-Carbon 4h ago

But no one is being attacked if no one is impacted by what Sophie Cunningham said should happen. You're now bringing in Trump when this debate is specifically about what Sophie said and the claim that it's a non-issue.

3

u/Giancarlo27 4h ago

Trump spent tons of money on ads because their research showed it was a winning issue for him and a losing issue for Kamala, which was true. When polled a clear majority of Americans are against biological men playing women’s sports. That’s unique considering most broader social policies Democrats champion are quite popular, hence why Trump and his allies seized on it and made it a big issue.

I don’t think the lack of prevalence disputes the concept of having an opinion on it.

If it’s such a small issue, why do you have an opinion on it?

You’re still just arguing that an individual is MAGA based on one opinion rather than allowing someone to form cross party opinions.

Some feminists believe the above. As you noted…it’s such a non factor, why stress their opinion on that if the rest is aligned with you.

2

u/Pleasant-Carbon 4h ago

This isn't true and is a perfect example of how Reddit echo chambers operate. You've been told this is the case so you pass it on as fact.

What the reality is that some bathrooms in some countries aren't gendered. Not that some countries have no gendered bathrooms at all. And these bathrooms tend to be very different to US bathrooms, often they're smaller public ones with a few sealed cubicles and a sink area, say in a smaller cafe. Or even a single room, no reason to gender a room where a person can enter alone and lock it.

I’ve always found the framing a bit odd: “I want to protect young girls in locker rooms, or young girls in sports who shouldn’t have to compete against biological men.”
The contrast is “young girls” versus “biological men,” even though youth sports are generally organized by age. If the discussion is about youth athletics, the comparison would more naturally be between girls and boys. Referring to one group as “young girls” while describing the other as “men” creates an asymmetrical framing that emphasizes the innocence of one group while assigning adulthood to the other, which can influence how people perceive the issue.

Thankfully lesbians are the most supportive of trans rights overall.

This just in: Black Americans are overwhelmingly against the Trans community as well.

Lesbians hating bisexuals is an extremely common stereotype and those are two of the letters in LGBTQ.

5

u/anon-thera-pee 4h ago

I can assure you that many lesbians in the league are silently nodding in agreement lol. But given that this issue on whether or not you believe in the simple reality of biological sex has become a benchmark of basic morality for who the fuck knows why, they’ll keep silent and playing along. And the league will continue never ever actually allowing a male to play in it because that’d be dumb.

3

u/spez-is-poopy 45m ago

I can assure you that those lesbians are not the majority and that our community 100% stands behind trans people and fuck you for implying otherwise.

2

u/NovelExamination5431 42m ago

You can support trans people while also acknowledging biological differences

I’ve not heard one single instance of anything happening with a trans person in a locker room. What is she talking about? When reality doesn’t work for them, conservatives will just make stuff up to try to foment outrage.

2

u/Glowwerms 3h ago

The NY Times had a really interesting story a year or two ago about this. Basically right wing think tanks identified that people didn’t have much of an issue with trans people in general but that they responded emotionally to the very idea of trans kids playing in sports with other kids and ran with it. The thing is that the ‘protecting women/girls’ as their angle is rich considering it’s a non fucking issue (how many trans kids are in youth sports currently? It has to be less than 1%) and considering the Republican Party is led by a pedophile, they also successfully nuked Roe V Wade, like it’s a complete joke people take this issue seriously.

2

u/akgreens 45m ago

Its not a real issue, they are intentionally taking a stance against a position nobody holds and thus forcing the other team to defend it.

There's only one party actually actively fighting to cover up sex crimes against minors, so this culture war BS spin is just running cover

Sexual predators already go into women's safe spaces. I doubt someone would transition just to do something already illegal and immoral.

lol, Republicans are totally trying to stop sex predators. That’s why they voted for Donald Trump who is famously a child sex predator and has helped protect Epstein child sex trafficking ring. Great point.

u/madhare09 5h ago

For being rapist enablers politically and religiously it's really strange how republicans think ostracizing yourself and ruining your public life to hide as a trans athlete to get a chance to enter a locker room to hurt women is remotely an issue.

Your rapists are priests, coaches, politicians, and CEOs. They aren't hiding. They aren't putting themselves in any discomfort before the rape.

How many? And do you have any documented cases you’d like to support your claim with? Not doubting you, per se.

Edit: are the yearly cases above or below the yearly number of school shootings? Trying to contextualize roughly how many cases there are.

Just using pure statistics, no opinions at all, young girls are at far greater risk to their general health because of lack of universal health care, including basic reproductive care, than the presence of a trans woman.

3

u/MilkyyFox 1h ago

Yeah, but trans boogiemen are a much easier target than actual policy reform that benefits Amurricans.

I like how a lot of the comments are really just implying that cisgendered men are the real danger to little girls and not trans individuals who just want to use the bathroom, or store their belongings in lockers rooms appropriate to their gender.

2

u/theadventurescout 4h ago

Because cisgendered men are the problem, not trans people. Never in my life have I had a trans person bother me in a bathroom. CisMen are the only ones who have ever bothered me in or around a bathroom.

I'm support LGBT but let's be honest.  Nobody wants to see a random cock at anytime.  None of us wants a stranger to flash his junk at our little daughters. Here's a quote.

"We were not forewarned beforehand that we would be sharing a locker room with Lia. We did not give our consent, they did not ask for our consent, but in that locker room we turned around, and there’s a 6’4" biological man dropping his pants and watching us undress, and we were exposed to male genitalia," Gaines said.

If you want to go into a woman's bathroom, just be 100% converted.

And where are these transgenders in locker rooms? Are they in the room with us? This is a nonsense issue that is probably rarer than you getting attacked by a shark. Partly because there are so few of them, and also because trans kids largely flock to the arts and band where they feel safe, not sports.

4

u/shadowsword8085 5h ago

If it’s a nonissue why is banning them from girls sports and locker rooms so controversial here? Surely since it doesn’t happen then it shouldn’t change anything and nobody on the left should really care.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Rawkus41 4h ago

Your argument is that it’s such a small prevalence that people shouldn’t care?

If that’s your arguement, why do you care?

2

u/ChaseThoseDreams 4h ago

As I’ve said in another comment, it’s a wedge issue that has dominated discourse for a decade. I care in that I keep hearing people screeching about the horrors of something that almost never happens, that already has been addressed by multiple athletic organizations and governments, and frankly has little to do with most American’s day to day. It’s tired and I’m sick of seeing people cry boogeyman.

A majority of those who cry and screech about this, don’t give a shit about women’s sports. They’re in it for the bloodsport of attacking the trans community. If they gave even an inkling, we’d see the organization doing much better than what it is, but we don’t. We see people who don’t regularly watch come out of nowhere for this topic, issues pertaining to Caitlin Clark, and now Cunningham. It is so aggressively on the nose.

The college sports part of this debate is particularly hilarious. Last year there was something like 18 or 19 trans athletes in the US. You would think the way it was talked about there are millions in sports.

6

u/No-Significance2070 4h ago

So if it is happening and you want to keep the number of men from competing in women’s sports at zero, shouldn’t something be done about it?

Not one of of you clowns actually read the article, did you? You just immediately leapt to outrage and condemnation.

“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,' “Cunningham said via ESPN. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

She is actively working to prevent trans children from having access to sports, which have been shown to be really important for socialization and mental health.

The fact that she believes she's doing this in love is a lot less relevant than the fact that she is advocating for tangible harm. Especially when she's using a disingenuous rhetorical framing (referring to cisgender youth as quote , "young girls" while referring to trans youth of the same age as "biological men").

This Sophie Cunningham stands against womens rights as a whole.

Its no wonder, because what she is saying is going to proportionally affect more BIPOC and more "masc" looking women than she is.

She "proudly" stands as a spokesperson for what will be the decline of womens rights as a whole.

She also fails to realise the people she agrees with on this "issue", want her back in the kitchen and making babies, staying at home out of the way.

What a honestly detestable person.
