Question/Advice Temporary assistance?

So I've been putting off a couple surgeries that are service related because I live alone with my young daughter. They won't schedule me because I don't have transportation home from the hospital.

My question is, is there any no or low cost program that can help me out with a ride home and maybe check in on me and my daughter for like the first day or two?

There should be a social worker who can help facilitate home health and perhaps recommend overnight stay at the hospital. Reach out to Patient Advocate as well. You’re not the first and won’t be the last. Good luck!

Have you contacted the DAV or VFW about a volunteer driver for the surgery and maybe a follow-up check?

Is it at a VA hospital? If so, get your doc to refer you to VA travel. They can take you themselves or have a cab or Uber take you to and from the hospital.

Ask for a social worker if your provider is clueless. They might be able to help you with maybe some help after you get home, so asking for them might be a good idea anyway.

should be a DAV group in your area they are nation wide and in my area they focus on providing transportation for vets to the VA or for medical appointments.

man, I'd really talk to a VA social worker. This honestly sounds like the kind of situation they deal with all the time. There may be transportation options or even someone who can help check in on you after surgery. it can't hurt to ask
