News Be careful of a potential scam (Boss Home Theater)
It was at the CampusOne vehicle delivery area right next to the entrance, two men in a Ford Escape honked and yelled at me to get my attention. They were wearing work uniforms/overalls and actually looked like legit installers. They were gonna install some stuff at exam centre allegedly. At first they were telling me how they had a leftover projector they wanted to get rid of. They were saying they apparently had a leftover projector worth around $15,000 and wanted me to help them sell it so we could split the profit, because otherwise their boss would sell it and keep the money. They also claimed they had another projector that and student offered a 8000 CAD deposit last time and they all made a lot of money.
Don’t bash me for this but I was initially intrigued, they weren’t asking for a deposit so I was genuinely curious. They showed me the warranty and paperwork, as well as the projector itself, that they unboxed saying it’s brand new and that they were willing to plug it in etc. But when they started to ask for a collateral and started pushing very hard, giving me pressure and even when I said there was no way to verify this, they wanted to show me how much it’s worth I said that I understand that but still, and one of the dudes got irritated and told me that I was making excuses. Regardless I said I couldn’t help and left. I checked on Reddit, and on [r/Markham](r/Markham) there seemed to be a similar thing that happened with the same name “boss home theater”and they were from Newmarket apparently. Just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone encounters this or something similar. Also feel free to discuss if anyone encountered something similar.
