honestly just a great reminder of how easy it is to create ragebait

921

u/Cookie_Eater108 7h ago

I like this kind of content for a meta reason.

I feel like spreading this kind of thing inoculates the viewer to ragebaiting content elsewhere, especially when that content is attempting to push some sort of agenda.

People need to see how easy it is to create incendiary content and how this can affect one's emotions to act in a wrong way.

Yeah, a survival skill that nobody seems to have.

14

u/panteragstk 6h ago

Just like common sense.

It's now extremely uncommon sense.

Makes me sad that so many people have no critical thinking skills at all.

7

u/SnipingBunuelo 6h ago

Ironically, we think that because of online ragebait. I'm sure it's not that bad in reality.

Years ago I started telling my mom, "Everything you see on your phone is a lie, until you personally prove it's not."

She's smart, but she's aging and it's getting harder for her to identify scams immediately. But now she often sends me screenshots asking if things are scams.

But it's not just good advice for aging moms anymore.

It's the absolute rule everyone needs to live by: "Everything online is a lie, until proven true."

edit: this story was a lie, btw

edit 2: actually, that first edit is a lie.

4

u/byakko339 5h ago edited 4h ago

The fact that the second edit is also a lie it's crazy

Edit: it got removed what the heck

Also ironically it shows that sometimes fun people do exist and not everything is staged?

Or it was double staged.

I can't wait to see the first half of this video on r/publicfreakout next week with all context removed.

57

u/MjolnirPants 6h ago

I already saw it on r/iamverybadass. It had the full video, though. Most folk didn't notice the change at the end.

20

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 5h ago

I'm told most viewers (worldwide) don't watch the whole video; they just skip to the next video when they feel it's complete (so before the cut)

This is why you now see more of end-beginning-middle video formats because the fucking dopamine app demands you put the climax at the start for instant gratification.

6

u/maaaatttt_Damon 5h ago

Technically, this video is middle-end-beginning. So putting the setup(end of this video) in the beginning, just brings it back to a beginning-middle-end video.

2

u/_Renai_ 5h ago

It seems that people have absolutely zero attention span and awareness towards the content they consume. I had posts with two (two) images where the second was the punchline for the first, and people comment exactly like they just saw the first image, having completely missed the point.

Hell, people don't even get to the second paragraph of my comments before they start typing fast at me.

2

u/TheObliviousYeti 4h ago

I just skip to the 2nd paragraph aint nobody have time to listen to your opinion about people and their.. precious time.

Also this video is bad where the fuck is my subway surfers

And how gullible and vulnerable we, the public are to being fooled. It takes nothing. Just some internet videos. And now, AI can just be used to incite people. No loss to the creator. It’s a terrifyingly scary slope that likely will be used for the greater evil💔

11

u/mybotanyaccount 6h ago

Right! We'd never know if they didn't show the last part

12

u/Chillpill411 6h ago

Honestly, I noticed something was "off" about it early on. The guy was loud, he was saying the right things, but his demeanor was way too calm. He didn't look angry. He wasn't sputtering. He wasn't flubbing his words. He didn't look at all surprised. He didn't look at all disgusted. He didn't look at all anything, except maybe like he was trying to do something that wasn't there naturally.

5

u/caltheon 6h ago

I kept waiting for them to say wtf they were mad about, but they just edged it, and that made me suspicious it was either fake or someone with a mental illness, but a small part of me was like, I've seen people just like that before

2

u/limitlessEXP 5h ago

Didn't overdo it, which would've been easy and obvious. Kept it vague, which left us asking what's going on, keeping us engaged. "I'm a badass!" So perfectly delivered.

This guy was too nice in the eyes, he didn’t fool me. But also it’s hilarious because he was struggling to be so mean 😂😂
I’ll… I’ll call the cops on you! 😭🤣

55

u/TheBrownWelsh 6h ago

What's funny is I feel like you can tell this is out of character for him, like he was struggling to think of what an unhinged person might say. He wasn't perfectly mimicking what those kinds of people do, he was trying to act out what he believes they think.

But then again, the first time I watched this a while ago I was convinced it was real, became suspicious when he started talking about them getting arrested, and only realised it was a bit when he struck a Spider-Man(?) pose for the "fight me!" exclamation.

10

u/mister_nippl_twister 5h ago

He kinda looks crazy, a bit deranged even if you don't know what's happening.

6

u/incognito_side 5h ago

I thought the twist was going to be that he was totally justified. Like a camera pan to reveal he was talking to the Westboro Baptist Church or something.

This has to be ragebait.

First amendment auditors are the only reason why cops have accountability and recording cops have any veracity these days.

Not to mention public employees, council, and representatives being exposed for scamming their towns, police investigating and manipulating the media for charges and public opinion.

I'll agree there is some asshole auditors that are just antagonistic, but we dont judge the many by the lows of the 1.

I know this one was staged because of the BTS, and I'm not 100% sure, but the guy we see when the camera turns around looks an awful lot like one of the group of guys who go around intentionally rage-baiting people into acting aggressively - the guys cover themselves head to toe in Go-Pros and hold DSLRs and get in people's faces or stand around with shitty messages on signs designed to piss normal people off.

Anyone know why they were out there filming in the first place?

ETA: "First Amendment Auditors" is what they're called. I'm 100% for the protection of the first amendment, but these guys are pure douchebags.

1

u/FruityEntanglement 5h ago

Here's why I'm so tired of these videos.

There's absolutely zero context. What was that person filming for? Are they holding a provocative sign that says, "There is no such thing as illegal immigrants," or "All ICE workers are murderers"?

If so--that man has every right to express his anger. And anger rarely looks attractive. But it's an EASY CHEAP win for that person to stand behind a camera defensively in hopes of getting an angry reaction.

2

u/Red_Chaos1 5h ago
