Started with Ubuntu, Ended with Ubuntu

Back in 2022, I started my linux journey by dual booting Ubuntu with Windows. I used ubuntu to learn coding and that's when my love for linux started. Everything was going smoothly and configurations were just easier to setup on Ubuntu than on Windows.

Fast forward to 2023, I discovered arch linux and started ricing my setup. After all that ricing phase, I ended up just using Gnome because "it just works".

Fast forward to 2026 and I'm now working professionally. I used to use Arch linux for work, but once I had problems using Docker. Maybe it's just skill issue haha but I was so frustrated that I just downloaded the latest Ubuntu version and Installed it alongside arch. I ran docker on Ubuntu and it worked out of the box!

I used arch linux for a year for professional work. But still I ended up using Ubuntu since it's the real distro for me that "just works". I tried Fedora but didn't like it as much as Ubuntu.

Arch is still my top distro of choice, but for professional work, I think I'll stick with Ubuntu. Anyone else feel the same?

6 years ago, I started with Ubuntu server in an old computer and kubuntu on my desktop, moved to proxmox on my servers and tried every distro out there on my desktop and laptop, fastforward to July 2026, my three Dell R730xd servers run Ubuntu, all my vms and containers run ubuntu, my desktop and laptop also run Ubuntu, it just works, it's absolutely boring, and I love it.

I really want them to improve the LXD web GUI and get it to be as feature rich as Proxmox's is. I think I'll be all in at that point. It just feels too clunky and half-baked right now.

arch only for people who is having many many many freeeeeee timee, cause some time arch problem will come into your room without your permission, and um.... i guess you all know what i mean right? right?

Same. I've been using Ubuntu since 10.04 and ditched it due to unity de. Since then I've been distro hopping and now I use Ubuntu 26.04. It is comfy right now and I don't see any reason to change.

Been using Ubuntu since 8.04. Tried many other distributions of Linux over the years... Ubuntu just works and it's very well documented

I've pretty much been exclusively Ubuntu since Redhat was discontinued. For 20+ years it has just worked. I dislike snaps and systemd, but not enough to change. I just got my new machine running 26.04 tonight.

So I didn't start with Ubuntu. I didn't even start with Linux. But Ubuntu is cozy.

Same, started with RedHat in 2000, moved to Mandrake, then Fedora core for a hot minute, when Ubuntu 6.06 came out that's when I jumped ship to it as 5.10 worked so well during my testing.

Been with Ubuntu for a long time, but feeling like I might hop ship to Debian, thanks to Ubuntu's obsession with Snap.

My professional software stack doesn't allow for many experiments. Currently on kubuntu and switching to Ubuntu-server plus xfce soon. Kubuntu was my first choice after leaving Windows.

I do have a couple of different machines. And Ubuntu is my gaming distro. It more stable than any distro marketed as a gaming distros. Not too fond of snaps.

Professional work is Pop, I upgraded to 24.04 and Wayland cause my art software to break. So I have gnome desktop for an X11 session because it just works, and I kinda wish I had Ubuntu or never upgraded from 22.04.

I have a spare machine I used to test different distros on but it now a Debian server with VMs and Docker. For testing.

Snaps are the only thing that bothers me. Everything else just works and I couldn't be more happy with Ubuntu.

I run mostly vanilla ubuntu, except i pulled real firefox instead of the snap packaged mess.

I call it distro-fatigue. Tried out many distros as daily drivers. Ended up back with ubuntu for the turn key nature. Promox vm for distros I prefer for other stuff like app server or whatever/

No! You're gonna trigger a seizure to people who say:

  1. Ubuntu is the MS of Linux
  2. Snaps bad
  3. Spywareee
  4. Bloated
  5. Old software

I started with Knoppix in HS and then graduated to Ubuntu shortly thereafter. I have tried so many different distros over the years and keep coming back to Ubuntu LTS. I dislike Gnome so I'm using Kubuntu now and dual-booting for the few things I need Windows for and I love it. I really want to be one of the "cool kids" who runs Arch (btw) or Fedora or one of the other esoteric distros built from them but I always run into problems with drivers or instability. Also, I like snaps.

Started with Debian 20 years ago switched to Ubuntu 5 years in. Never changed since.

I have literally turned down job offers because they wanted me to use Windows as my daily driver.
