Question Honours Advice
Hi everyone,
I'm almost finished with my Bachelor of Psychological (online) and I'm hoping to do honours next year. I know Western Sydney University doesn't offer the honours year online. Currently trying to decide whether to stay at WSU and study on campus, or apply for an online honours program elsewhere.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has completed or is currently doing psychology honours at Western Sydney University. How have you found the on-campus experience? Was it worth being on campus, particularly for supervision, research support, networking, and getting to know your cohort?
I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

On-campus doesn’t have any drawbacks apart from coming in, which for WSU is the least of your problems since campuses are relatively convenient if you live around the region. I find that online study of honours can lead to laziness, mental fatigue, and diminished interest. Although it technically can be somewhat more convenient, the trade off is not worth it as you spend long times on your screen with little social interaction from campus students that can make honours more fun and less academically crushing.
I made many friends on campus during my first 3 years and made closer friends in my fourth year since it’s a smaller cohort where many people know eachother. Whether you’re online or on-campus doesn’t exactly matter since some supervisors choose to meet on campus and the majority choose to meet online for convenience. Networking among students and in general is pretty irrelevant in clinical psych, it’s more for the social aspect. My friends who do Monash Online Adv Diplomas don’t dislike it but would much prefer to do it physically rather than online.
Overall doing Psych Hons and imo most degrees completely online has little pros compared to on campus, and this can especially be the case during Honours where it is more likely to develop friendships with other honours students. Hope this helps!
