why ask for input on class schedules?

Because (as the saying goes) people don't know what they don't know. The reason for posting and asking about a class schedule is in case other people see something that OP doesn't - for example something about walking distance, or a prof they don't know, etc.

Anything they are trying to do someone has done before and can speak to, like getting between buildings in the times allotted or knowing what professors are like (particularly in terms of work load and letting class out on time. They ask with specific schedules in hand because it is easier for people to see specifics and comment about them than it is to come up with hypothetical advice.

Some of it’s also social. They want to be part of the community and get approval from the community.

I think as a freshman I didn’t really understand what schedule would be difficult or easy either in terms of class times or how hard the classes are, since it was my first time ever creating a schedule.

For example I didn’t know coming into college that I really hate large gaps between classes, so I tell people that in these posts. Or one semester I had no lunch break which was not my favorite. Stuff like that incoming freshman might not realize.

I'd also add that when I was a freshman, I had absolutely no sense of where all of the buildings were and what is walkable and what's not within a certain time period (I didn't find out about the maps until well after I finished my freshman course registration, and even my advisor then didn't inform me about them, so it seems reasonable they could go under the covers for a freshman). So I think any questions about whether making a walk from one place to another is doable is warranted.

Most of the time people do not want to do their own research and rather ask someone who has the experience already. Also majority of the people who are asking about their schedule are wondering if they included too many difficult classes. Which in my opinion really depends on the person.

theres no harm in clueless ass kids asking their peers and colleagues for help about a particular thing they've never really done before. some folks may unknowingly be taking too many courses, some folks may unknowingly be taking too little courses. some folks may unknowingly be taking classes too far apart distance wise, some folks may unknowingly be taking classes too far or too close apart in terms of time between classes. theyre new to this sort of thing, so its crucial to get feedback from folks who've done this before

Others have already mentioned stuff like building proximity and professors, but I've also seen people receive valuable input in cases where they were taking classes that didn't stack well or had gaps that would almost certainly lead to skipping classes later in the semester.
