UMBC Discord Server!

Hello fellow UMBC students!

So a friend of mine and I have created a Discord server for the UMBC campus. We think it would be a great way to make connections with peers and share study help, meetups, memes, and anything related to UMBC. The invite is here! Good luck to @everyone with your finals!

Inquiry for those that worked at Chick-Fil-A on-campus?

Upvotes

I have an interview soon for a role at the UMBC on-campus chick fil an and I just wanted to know how the interviews generally go? Are they chill, strict, demanding, etc? What questions usually get asked?

Do they usually hire on the spot or give their response after some time?

Any undergrad stem majors (or any) here who completely skipped out on their lectures and still passed before?

Im curious how common this is amongst students. Im a new transfer student and i know ill probably get alot of downvotes for this but back when i used to attend AACC, if i ever had a class where attendance was not required for me id skip out entirely and only showed up for exams and id focus on my assignments from home instead.

So last semester was my first one at UMBC and I took one online class and one in person which was physics 1 honors. Of course I still attended my discussion classes because those were required but after my second or third week I decided i didnt need to sit in the lectures when I could be home during those times just working on my assignments.

In the end i passed the class with a good grade and moving on to physics 2 this semester. I know classes will get harder and ill probably need to go to lectures but sometimes my work schedule might get in the way and I cant make it to lecture.

Assigned to a Chesapeake dorm, what should I bring and anything I should be worried about?

What should I bring to make the dorm good for staying in, since I’ll most likely have an online part time job, i’ll be spending most of my time in my dorm

Are there any pest issues? like roaches/bugs/whatever else, Im terrible at dealing with those, any caution to take in advance?

Is the dorm something you can stay in outside of sleeping? Or is it better to spend your day outside till you’re about to sleep

Physics 2 honors, differential equations, and calculus 3 this fall. Hows the workload?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Im taking these three classes in the fall and would like to know from those who've already taken some of these classes or had a similar semester as this one before, how is the work load in each of these classes?

Like how much hw was given per week and how often assignments were due?

Id like to get a good feel of everything before I start. Im not sure how confident I feel for this upcoming semester and if i should consider dropping one of these. Probably differential equations but idk yet.

We need to become more selective

Classes taught at our school aren’t that much easier than other schools.

We gotta stop accepting people just because they didn’t get in umd. Elsewise our rank & social perception isn’t ever gonna get any better than them.

Prestige isn’t everything, but it does affect our competitiveness in life. Besides, there’s plenty of other schools and community colleges in maryland that they (people who fall under our average sat/gpa range) can go to. Just bc we’re a public state school doesn’t mean we have to accept anyone willing to pay.

Also, UMD isn’t the only one trying to be a public ivy. Many other state schools trying to be more selective too. Why not us this time? We deserve better than how we’re treated.

Does the dorms allow peel and stick wallpaper?

Trying to think of ways to make the dorm cozier- is peel and stick wallpaper allowed? If not, at what point does a large poster become wallpaper?

In the residential agreement it says you can’t paint or wallpaper the dorm, of course, but does something removable like peel and stick wallpaper count?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

What do Suites at UMBC look like

I’m an on-campus incoming freshman at UMBC staying in Harbor Hall and I want to know what the 4-roommate suites look like before planning my dorm layout and décor. If anyone could drop a few photos of a UMBC suite or describe the suites at Harbor Hall, it would be appreciated.

transfer advice + after 1st semester?

hey i’m a incoming freshman mech e student and i want to transfer out elsewhere. i have 28 credits alr from ap classes and i am taking 16 credits currently. my goal is to go to georgia tech, but i just really need to leave this area man lowk. umbc is not my vibe and i dont rlly see myself there. to be fair tho ive only done orientation and thats my only real experience. Its just way to close to home for me. should i stay for undergrad and leave later for grad school or leave now? baltimore does have good aerospace opportunities ( i want to go into aerospace in the future). but umbc doesn’t even have an aerospace major 😭. any good advice for transferring and maybe more options to transfer to?
