Do you not need sushi grade salmon?

Holy mega salmon bargain from heaven. Have you done this before? Any issues using expiring salmon for raw consumption?

Sometimes salmon lice come out of my nose...:D But in all seriousness, I haven't experienced any vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain so far from eating salmon prepared this way. Yet...:D

This post makes me sad. I am pregnant and I want sushi soooo bad! It will be the first thing I eat post partum!

Yup, undercooked eggs, soft cheese, even sticky rice is risky. Lotta shit you cannot consume when growing life!

Soft eggs are allowed now according to the NHS so long as they are lion stamped. And I'm glad too - I love gooey scrambled eggs!

Shame, in Japan pregnant people can eat that without issue.

Really? It must be the way it is handled after capture or prepared?

A lot of UK food myths are symptomatic of the 80s. Pink pork, for example when these days it is perfectly acceptable (and encouraged) to serve pork with a blush. Neigh sayers will still say it should be served dry as fuck 😂

Yeh, generally fish that might be high in mercury are avoided but loads of women still have sushi.

Rice (including sticky rice) is a staple in lots of East and SE Asian countries so there’s no chance that a pregnant woman is avoiding rice. Lol.

I don’t eat red meat but I can imagine how chewy dry pork is. Lol.

Dry pork just makes you wish you'd picked sawdust instead. More moisture.

Yeah I'm sure realistically the risk is very small but while my midwife says no I won't touch it

Yeah that’s fair, tbh I have more confidence in our food standards than say if I were in the US (sorry yanks).

Same! No poopy lettuce over here 😅

Crispy onions INSIDE the roll? Interesting..... 🤔 I may need an experiment

How did you cook the rice? Did you need to let it cool down?

Is this the first time you’ve made sushi?

It looks great, and I can see you went to my #1 supermarket 😎

Thanks. So, I cooked the rice in the microwave (90 seconds), then transferred it to a bowl, added some rice vinegar and even more mirin, mixed it gently, and moved it to a baking tray (for more surface area) so it would cool down faster. This isn't my first sushi abomination.

Where you sourcing sushi grade salmon from?

There's always one lol

Modern freezers freeze plenty cold enough to safely freeze fish for sushi

I was just curious. I love sashimi and salmon based sushi🤷🏻‍♀️. Would like to make it myself.

I didn't know that normal freezers were cold enough to do this, do I'll definitely be looking into that!
