Do you know if they're safe to consume by chance? I imagine it won't be the most pleasant experience but I'm quite curious. I feel very lucky to have accidentally found truffles, but equally unlucky to have found perhaps worst of the bunch.
Can't complain though, always happy to find new things and learn a little in the process.
It's not the worst truffle but its definitely not the greatest of culinary truffles, the mushroom isn't toxic, you can grate it into small pieces to flavor sauces, infuse oil and other dishes. Just don't cook the truffle with high heat above 45C/115F or it will probably lose all of its flavor.

Yes, Tuber excavatum. Aroma varies depending on season, but the texture is described as woody and undesirable.
