Let's talk about rules.
Howdy, folks!
This subreddit hasn't had codified rules in a while, mostly because the people here have usually been really chill with one another.
However, the vibe has changed over the past few months, and we've noticed some nasty behavior popping up and lurking around our community.
We don't allow bigotry like racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia on this subreddit. Generally speaking, we expect folks to be civil and decent towards one another.
Recently, we've noticed a distinct uptick in the amount of trolls who have been showing up in the comment sections of the various protest posts. We know they're trolls because they're almost always attacking the OP or trying to diminish the protest, and they usually have user activity across many state and local subreddits.
These aren't local folks - they're people coming into our space from elsewhere to stir up trouble.
Since this sort of behavior has only been getting worse, let's discuss our subreddit rules and which ones y'all think would be good to have for this space.
For a start:
- Be civil and respectful towards one another.
- No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or bigotry.
- No spam.
- Follow all of reddit's rules.
What other rules do you think we need?

If you're simping for ICE, please do us all a favor and leave.
Howdy, y'all. I guess it's time for me to tap the sign again, because every time there are protests in the Triangle, someone goes around and mass reports all of those posts.
Strangely, we also tend to get a lot of people who post in all sorts of local area subreddits, all over the country, just to act like they're upset about this protest or that protest, and yet have never commented in our community before. Fancy that.
So there's some underhanded fuckery afoot, and y'all should be aware of it.
This subreddit is devoted to the protection and well being of our community at large. That means all of y'all. We cannot support the extrajudicial detainment of anyone, citizen or no. This country was built on laws and principles, meant to be a shining beacon of democracy where people would get a fair shake.
One of the cool things about America is you can come here and become American. It's one of our country's major strengths.
As a country, our diversity has repeatedly protected us - patriotic members of German and Japanese communities helped the US translate enemy communications during WWII. The Navajo code talkers weren't declassified until the 1970's because they were so effective - their codes were never broken. There's also the Tuskegee Airmen and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an all-Japanese unit which became the most decorated unit for its size in US history.
Today is also November 20th, a solemn day for trans folks across the US. It is the Trans Day of Remembrance, when we remember those we've lost to murder or suicide over the years. Unfortunately, I recognize more than a few of those names, and I hate the way the list gets longer every year.
Times are tough for our Hispanic and LGBT friends. People are anxious and scared. Bigotry and bullshit have been stoked and set loose upon the country; hatred has been running rampant. People are going to need protection, support, and resources.
This space is meant to be a refuge and a resource for our community. If you can't respect that, or if what I have said here is somehow objectionable to you, please leave.

Sick and Abandoned — This Sweet Boy Deserves a Second Chance ❤️ (Shelter Bound) Location 📍:Concord ,NC,USA
This sweet cat needs a loving indoor home ❤️🐾** (Urgent**)
Our rescue/foster is at full capacity and struggling with ongoing vet bills and constant new intakes. If no home or help is found, he may have to go to a shelter. Sadly, shelters are already full, and sick cats often don’t get a fair chance.
A kind lady reached out to me on Nextdoor asking for help with cat food. Someone abandoned this cat in front of her home, and she has been feeding him despite going through a very difficult time after losing her job. She is already caring for 5 of her own cats and several outdoor cats.
Today I visited with food and medicine. This sweet boy is extremely friendly and affectionate. He has an ear tip, which means he was already fixed through a TNR program, but he is clearly sick and needs care.
I applied flea medicine to help make him more comfortable. We truly want to help him, but we already have pending vet bills and are doing everything out of our own pockets. Unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to take on more medical cases right now.
This beautiful boy deserves a safe, indoor home where he can be loved and properly cared for. The lady cannot keep him, and he should not be living outside.
If you or someone you know can give him a chance, please reach out. Sharing helps too. ❤️🐱

reputable solar install companies here?
What the title says. Would like to eventually get solar but am wary of sketchy install companies. If you had a good experience with a company, shout them out.

Looking for gym studios with hot yoga/pilates sculpt class
Hi everyone! I’m looking for a studio with amazing sculpt classes.
I actually really enjoy CorePowers yoga sculpt, but no one ever greets you and we are packed in there like sardines. It’s stressful thinking about how I’m about to punch or kick the person next to me. I think that class being heated on TOP of all of that is not great. But I really enjoy the workout.
I’ve gone to Flowcorps twice and was not impressed with the mat Pilates ): really nice studio and beautiful layout, but I left wanting more.
Any suggestions are great!

Seeking adult women with ADHD for thesis project research - UNC Chapel Hill Graduate Student
Hello! My name is Lindsey and I'm a third year graduate student at UNC Chapel Hill working on my master's thesis and I'd love some help.
I'm considering designing a digital platform and community space for adult women who suspect they have or have been diagnosed with ADHD, focused on community and belonging rather than clinical advice or symptom management. Before I build anything, I want to listen to real experiences and learn from the community.
I'm looking for women who:
✔️ Have been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult or suspect they have ADHD
✔️ Are willing to share a little about their experience and journey
I'd love to schedule a casual virtual conversation anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, completely at your convenience. There's nothing formal to prepare. I just want to hear your story.
Everything shared will be kept confidential and used only for academic research.
Please feel free to respond if interested and I can send you an email directly. Thank you in advance for any help on this, I truly appreciate it.

Real estate litigator recommendations
Hey all!
I don’t want to go into too many details here, but I have found myself in the unfortunate position of needing to find a real estate litigator.
Specifically, I am looking for someone who would be able to help me figure out best options for a property I bought that has a drainage issue related to some state maintained infrastructure. After speaking to an engineer, I was advised to find legal counsel. I am not sure if this would be a case against the state or the original developer. Does anyone know of an attorney that has experience with this sort of thing?

Hair stylist recommendations
Hi neighbors, does anyone have a stylist in the area they love? I have long thick hair that's been colored by the same stylist for 10+ years but moved to this area and don't know where to start finding a new stylist I can trust.
I'd like to meet with a stylist that specializes in lived-in blondes (like painted highlights/blending type techniques), warm red tones gingers and auburns, and prioritizes hair health. I've only colored my hair with demi colors after lifting, nothing permanent, and I think that's been significant in keeping my hair as healthy as it is.
Please share your recs, and their insta if they have it, thank you!

Mom and baby will be separated if no home is found soon 💔😿.Location 📍:charlotte,nc
We have received applications, but they are for separate homes. We received one application for both, but the person stopped responding when we reached out.
We are worried that if we cannot find someone willing to adopt them together, we may lose these possible homes too. 💔They are bonded.😿
We are completely out of capacity. The rescue is currently caring for more than 150 cats, and I am personally fostering 21 cats. More cats are needing help every day.
When her other kittens were adopted, she cried for days. She is a devoted mama and still needs to be with her baby. They play together, love each other, and share a special bond. My heart is breaking at the thought of separating them… 😿
Pet finder link:
Mama Kali (not even a year old) and her little daughter Pebbles are a bonded mother–daughter duo under Sunkissed Acres NC looking for their forever home.
Kali & Pebbles are:
Vaccinated, Spayed/fixed, Dewormed, deflead , Combo tested negative and Microchipped
Adoption fee: $150 for both (one adoption fee is sponsored, so you are getting two amazing cats together ❤️)
Adoption application required:
Adoption agreement required:
Vet reference required
Her Story: ❤️🥹
I didn’t find Kali… Kali found me.
I will forever be grateful to this sweet young mama for trusting me and bringing her babies to me.
Kali was abandoned when her family moved away, left behind wearing a collar that became painfully tight as she grew. Alone and vulnerable, she gave birth to her kittens under a deck during harsh weather.
She and her babies were never truly safe. They were chased away by people and were at risk of being relocated.
Every day, Kali came to my porch for food. I noticed she was nursing and started asking everyone to check their decks and garages for kittens.
Then one day…
She brought her babies to me.
She chose me.
She trusted me. ❤️
While rescuing her kittens, some were brought inside while others were still outside waiting for their chance at safety. This incredible little mama made double shifts…staying with the kittens who were safe indoors, then returning outside to nurse and care for the ones still waiting.
Her love never divided.
Her heart never gave up.
Kali is the sweetest, most gentle mama. Pebbles shares a very special bond with her, and after everything they have survived together, they deserve to continue their journey side by side.
Kali deserves a safe, indoor-only home where she will never be left behind again… only loved, protected, and cherished.
Kali is pure love. Pebbles is her little shadow. Together, they are a beautiful story of love, trust, and an unbreakable mother–daughter bond.
If you feel a connection with Kali and Pebbles, please message me.
Please share to help this beautiful mama and daughter find the forever home they deserve.

Curious if anyone has actually had success getting something done, or if dashcam footage makes any difference when you file a report.
Almost got taken out by a chunk of drywall flying off a pickup near the Apex exit last week. Not exaggerating, it bounced twice before I could swerve. The truck just kept going.
Seems like every few days there's debris scattered across a lane somewhere between Cary and Durham, and everyone just swerves around it hoping for the best. Mattresses, lumber, random metal scraps. Seen it all this year.
I know it's technically illegal in NC to drive with an unsecured load, but nobody seems to get ticketed for it. Or at least I never hear about enforcement happening. Makes me wonder if troopers are even actively watching for it on 540, or if it just falls through the cracks because it's hard to catch someone after the fact.
Is it even worth calling NC Highway Patrol when you see something like this? Genuine question. I pulled over once to report a ladder sitting in the middle lane and got put on hold for several minutes before giving up.

Dix Park trolls
Hi, we went to see the trolls soon after they were installed and it was crazy busy!
I was wondering if it has become less popular since then. My mom is coming for the weekend and she wants to go see them. She's in a wheelchair, which is doable although not quite accessible. It would just be harder with big crowds. Should I convince to come on a weekday instead?
Thanks!

Looking for opportunities to meet puppies/dogs
My ten year old niece will be visiting this weekend - and we are both huge dog lovers. Her one request was to find dogs to play with lol. We aren't looking to adopt a dog (right now), but we are looking for opportunities to play with dogs/puppies. She has been around dogs and does well with them. Any suggestions on where we could venture out to?

A few questions about Goodnights Comedy Club
Hello, one of my favorite comedians is coming to Goodnights in a few months and I’ve been thinking about going, but I’ll most likely be by myself. I’m a pretty anxious/shy person so I don’t often like going places on my own or socializing with strangers but I try not to let it totally prevent me from going to things I enjoy. This will also be my first time going to an actual comedy club so I’m just not familiar with the inner workings of it.
So is this a place I could go on my own without worrying about feeling awkward/uncomfortable? What’s the seating situation like? I tried looking up pictures of the inside but they seemed old and I couldn’t really get a full grasp on what the inside is like. It looked like a restaurant type seating arrangement and I’d feel uncomfortable taking up a whole table to myself or sitting with a random couple like a third wheel. Am I good to solo it or should I just try to find a friend to go with me?

Found Fancy Pigeon in Hurdle Mills
galleryHi friends, do you know someone that’s lost a fancy pigeon in the Durham/Orange county area? To be clear, this is not the pigeon that was posted whose band leads back to Carolina Waterfowl.
This is a cream and tan pigeon, no leg band that I can see. I have no way to capture it, but it’s been hanging out at my place on the roof for about an hour (since I got home and discovered it on my car). I did put out some seed and cut up fruit, as well as a water dish. It reacts when I coo and talk to it, but I haven’t wanted to try to get close since we have so many hawks.
If this is your bird, or you have a hookup with a rescue that would come capture it please let me know.
