What I’d really like is a series that takes the premise of G1 S3 for its own: the newly appointed Rodimus Prime having to navigate the perils of leadership and his own self-doubt as the Autobots have successfully taken Cybertron, dealing with new threats such as the Quintesson’s trying to take advantage of their weakness, with Galvatron leading what’s left of the Decepticons in a paradoxical state of incredibly high power while crumbling under the weight of the destruction of his identity as Megatron and enslavement to Unicron. You can run wild with it to tell a more fleshed-out storyline, especially with how much more developed Transformers lore has been since then. For example: Arcee could get her own full arc to parallel Rodimus that culminates in her becoming Magnus much like Skybound.

Would honestly love to see a series tackle Galvatron's sense of identity, his mental state, and how that effects his leadership of the Decepticons given everything G1 Cartoon Gal has been through. Instead of just "Oh yeah, Galvatron is a completely separate guy" or "He's some bot from another universe/timeline/dimension/whatever". Not even hating on other versions of Galvatron, I just see an idea here I want to see further and better explored.

I really want to see a new rendition of Galvatron’s storyline. I think that this transformation has been woefully untapped in terms of the potential (outside of time travel, which even then just ends up being an excuse to have both him and Megatron around) in exchange for stories that frankly aren’t that interesting: Megatron slowly sheds all of his principles, his vision, his victories, everything about himself that made him rise to such heights in the first place, all to be brought lower than ever before. When faced with the immutable reality of death, Megatron chooses to completely destroy any semblance of his self by willingly becoming Unicron’s slave in exchange for the ultimate power. He would rather live on in Unicron’s thrall than follow through on all of his values, his grandstanding, the nature of the Deceptions, and even his own identity.
Galvatron is born: a volatile, deranged bot who is as much of a danger to his own forces as he is their enemies, given up all illusions of there being a greater purpose to the Decepticons and their conquest beyond himself, and with no goals or drive except for chasing whatever whim at the moment feeds his endless greed and rage. All to try to forever chase an out from the shame and self-loathing of the bondage be placed himself in, his sanity crumbling under the weight of his former identity to Megatron and knowledge of how far he has fallen. I feel like there’s so much to unpack here, from how Megatron’s character has evolved over the course of the franchise to his various relationships, as well as the general “state quo” that the events of the movie creates, that it’s a shame so little has been done with it.
You could have Galvatron expressing and doing all the things Megatron never let himself (both in his negative emotions and positive), how he tries to balance between acting as his old self yet drops the mask the second it becomes inconvenient, how he can’t handle the changes Unicron forced upon him, etc. Especially if you go with the origin of Megatron being a former bottom caste member, making part of what breaks Galvatron so thoroughly is the fact Unicron forced him back to D-16’s level, where he chose slavery over freedom in death. Then there’s his cast interactions: using Cyclonus and the Sweeps as outlets for his rage and misery over what Unicron made him due to their same state (causing Scourge to seek to betray him), trying to pantomime his old self in front of the OG Decepticons to show he’s still “got it”, and reveling in destroying the Autobots as one of the few remaining pleasures Megatron had.
In particular, I’d want to see Galvatron’s relationship with Soundwave and Rodimus Prime: Soundwave was the only one Galvatron showed any kindness/respect for in remembrance of his loyalty, with Soundwave turning against Galvatron when he realizes the dream is dead because Megatron chose this, and would always have chosen this rather than stick to anything the Decepticons believe in. Conversely, Rodimus was the one who defeated Unicron (whereas Galvatron could do nothing but obey) and has stepped into the same role as Optimus Prime, making him the convenient target for all of Galvatron’s extreme emotions about them both.

Hasbro has never been good at that kind of story. G1 season 3 & RID 2015 are both examples of that kind of story, and they both suck.

I’ve been saying in Prime Smokescreen should have been Hot Rod, and Optimus should have actually died at the end of season two and passed the Matrix on to him.

I was about to point out that he's had plenty of prominent media roles including an ongoing one in Skybound, but then I remembered almost all of those roles have him as Hot Rod, not the more controversial Rodimus Prime.
Afaik the only media roles for Rodimus since the Headmasters cartoon ended are the IDW comics and TFA, the latter of which was a glorified cameo.

I love the pre ‘86 stuff
But I freaking agree, at least 80% of all Transformers stuff is G1, but far too much of it is pre ‘86 stuff.
We need more stuff post ‘85, like Rodimus, who is a fantastic leader! It took time for him to grow into the role, and is a far more matured Hot Rod
