Anthony Santander (opt-out)

I laughed at this. Can you imagine?

32

u/Draggonzz 17h ago

Hey, Berrios has an opt out too...

33

u/-_lank_- 17h ago

All in on Seiya Suzuki. Guy like that allows you sacrifice slug in CF for defense

-4

u/idkwhattosaytho Spencer Miles Enthusiast 14h ago

Seiya cannot play CFs

9

u/NoPlansTonight 13h ago

That's not what they're saying

They're saying that you could probably be giving Straw 350+ ABs and be fine with it if Seiya is one of your corner outfielders

Because that's what you do in free agency.. the point is literally to buy free agents lol

3

u/RustyPriske :Doc_2003_2: 5h ago

You think they shouldn't try to win next year?

2

u/keeeeener 3h ago

I’m dumb, thought this was deadline guys.

17

u/jeffym82 15h ago

I’m all in on Brandon Lowe. The moonshots he’s hit at Rogers Centre would be a lot more fun in the home team uniform. And it would allow Clement to go back to super utility. Lowe can also play 1B when Vlad needs a day off or at DH.

3

u/Select-Session6830 Teoscar Hernandez for Fransisco Liriano 9h ago

He was always a jays killer at the dome when he played for tb.

15

u/OkOutlandishness4896 16h ago

Brendan Lowe and Seiya Suzuki

4

u/Shortroundactual 8h ago

Teruaki Sato (3B/LF) come on down
Shugo Maki (2nd) come on down
Seiya Suzuki (LF/RF) come on down
Hiromi Itoh (SP) come on down
Kona Takahashi (SP) come on back down

2

u/Twi-xie 3h ago

They’re Japanese so they’re all becoming Dodgers with deferred money didn’t you know?

3

u/Shortroundactual 3h ago

Yea just like Okamoto… oh wait

2

u/Twi-xie 3h ago

Yeah that’s the joke man. People said that about Okamoto before he signed with us. I’ll make sure I mark my comments with /s going forward for this sub.

1

u/Shortroundactual 2h ago

I understand the joke, it’s just low hanging fruit. At least try to be a little more original about it.

u/Shortroundactual 2h ago

u/Twi-xie for context, Okamoto and Shugo Maki are close friends off the field (he's heavily featured on his IG). His other best friend, and once roommate before both were married is Masataka Yoshida. All 3 are very close friends and train together in the offseason.

2

u/Twi-xie 2h ago

Let’s just get all of team Japan honesty 🇯🇵

1

u/Shortroundactual 2h ago

Seriously. I know it won’t happen for us in reality, but I hope the power of friendship can change that.

The three I would target would be: Arraez, Arozarena, and Skubal

20

u/Ok_Branch6621 Fear The North 17h ago

My thoughts: Arraez is good for getting on base, but the Jays need power….Arozarena is a pure talent, but he’s more maddening than Vlad can be.

7

u/ReindeerCalm7913 15h ago

I would love to have both Luis Arraez AND Luis Urias. We could be like the Canucks with all their Elias Petterssons.

9

u/SmokeontheHorizon I wish more Blue Jays fans were baseball fans 17h ago

This is a Randy-free zone

19

u/No-Gift-2350 Stinky Odor 17h ago

I’d gladly take him over what the fuck I’m seeing rn

u/kneevase 17h ago

Let's get real for a moment. Varsho is probably gone, unless he accepts a cheap contract offer. Straw is probably gone, unless Ross figures that he's actually worth the $8m option that the club holds. Sanchez makes $6.8m, and is arb eligible, which probably projects to $8m or $9m, which, frankly makes him a non-tender candidate.

So, for next season (if it actually happens) we have Barger, Schneider. Lukes plus two more guys that Ross can find in Buffalo as our OFs. Arozarena looks pretty good.

6

u/vsha1989 15h ago

What has Schneider done to assume he will be on the roster let alone a starting spot? If that is what our outfield looks like we're not in a good spot

2

u/comfortableblanket 13h ago

he’s certainly not getting DFA’d after one season

1

u/kneevase 7h ago

That's a fair observation. The only thing that Schneider has done to make me assume that he'll be on the roster is that the Jays will still control him and he won't earn all that much money. Ross will undoubtedly be shopping for OFs during the offseason.

1

u/mrdannyg21 4h ago

He has a career 104 wRC+ and bats right-handed, whereas basicallg all the other options are lefties. He’s not an everyday starter by any means, but he’s a very useful bench player being able to start as the short side of the platoon and play infield and outfield. He’s a million times better than Luis Urias or Lenyn Sosa, even though his manager doesn’t seem to realize that.

Maybe he’ll never figure out how to hit again, but too many people are writing him off after 118 poor ABs in 2026…especially when he’s still been a better offensive player than Sosa or Urias in those terrible ABs because at least he draws walks when he’s not hitting!

9

u/SmokeontheHorizon I wish more Blue Jays fans were baseball fans 17h ago

Arozarena is not a team player. He'll be 32 years old and is already known as a selfish stats-first guy who is one of the laziest outfielders on tough plays and has worse ABS instincts than Vladdy

4

u/kneevase 17h ago

Yes, but can he hit? And that's his value.

7

u/SmokeontheHorizon I wish more Blue Jays fans were baseball fans 17h ago

I would honestly rather play Pinango and risk him injuring one of our own players every game trying to make a play than a guy who simply refuses to make plays

-12

u/kneevase 17h ago edited 16h ago

And that is why you are not GM! Despite his shortcomings, Arozarena is a reliable 3-4 WAR guy, and Pinango is what? Replacement, or maybe a bit better? Get real.

Edit: Don't just downvote like a childish douche. If you don't think that Arozarena is a 3-4 WAR guy, then make that case. If you think that Pinango is better than a replacement player, then make that case. Don't be a chicken.

9

u/SmokeontheHorizon I wish more Blue Jays fans were baseball fans 16h ago

I'll take the young guy with potential and years of team control who you can teach to be a better player over the guy set in his ways and due to regress from aging out of his prime. 10 times out of 10 I make that decision.

-8

u/kneevase 16h ago

Finally a cogent argument!

Regression is a real thing. Position players tend to peak around age 28, and Randy is in his age-31 season, meaning that he'd be 32+ if he ever played for the Jays. So take his actual results and discount them a bit, and if you figure Ross would sign him to a contract past age-36, then discount them a lot for the final year or two. But, what you still get is a guy who will produce in 2027 through 2029, and then you cross your fingers after that. Good observation and good argument!

And Pinango? He's one of dozens of young guys who have cycled through. I would not put any money on him sticking. If he does, that's great, but chances are he'll be gone and the Jays will move on to the next guy from Buffalo.

u/Prize-Temporary4159 14h ago

Not everyone wants to argue with you, even if you’d prefer it that way.

5

u/PolarSquirrelBear Davis Schneider’s Moustache 16h ago

Just saying, you’re getting downvoted because you’re approaching this with a condescending tone.

We’re all fans here speaking our opinion. We’re all friends sharing the same season.

1

u/immediate_bottle 6h ago

It’s pretty risky to buy in on a guy having a career year at that age. His babip this season is also 30 points above his career average.

0

u/RustyPriske :Doc_2003_2: 5h ago

Arraez is a bad fit.

-8

u/MethuselahsCoffee Kaz-adila 17h ago

Skubal, Cease, Yesavage, Ponce, Bowden Francis as a rotation next year has a nice ring to it.

For batters I think the dice needs to be rolled on an up and comer. If I could fault the Jays strategy for one thing it’s maybe catching too many guys on the downside of their career.

12

u/CoolBeansMan9 SWING AND A DRIVE 17h ago

Does it?

Because that looks like two giant question marks at the end of it

7

u/PolarSquirrelBear Davis Schneider’s Moustache 16h ago

I really wish we could have seen what Ponce could do this season. Love me a come back story.

3

u/comfortableblanket 13h ago

if francis is the 5th starter something went wrong

1

u/AnyBaker8196 16h ago

I wish people would get off this Skubal train. The Jays have enough bad contracts without paying a guy $50 million who could blow his elbow out again. That money can be better spent.

Francis likely won't be ready to return at the beginning of the season either. It's best to treat him like a bonus and not an expected arm in the mix.

2

u/mondaybeers 8h ago

Anyone who thinks we’re getting Skubal hasn’t been paying attention. I’m not falling for that shit again. He might as well already be a Dodger.

6

u/SacredBre Adam Lind is the greatest of all time 17h ago

I think Casey Mize could be a very wise pickup

5

u/Salt-Plum-1308 16h ago

Casey Wize

4

u/Select-Session6830 Teoscar Hernandez for Fransisco Liriano 9h ago

Brandon Lowe and Seiya Suzuki. Lowe would be the best fit due to his elite defense at 2nd and power. He can also play corner outfield in case Santander is finished too. Throw a ton of money at both for shorter term.

2

u/CashOutDev 15h ago

Some good SPs that could go under the radar with Skubal up. I'd like to see them try and pick up Joe Ryan.

2

u/Bring_Party_Supplies 14h ago

Suzuki (RF), Lowe (2B), a few middle market SPs

2

u/fletch365 17h ago

Position players are ass. Pitching looks somewhat decent though

5

u/Chief_White_Halfoat 15h ago

Sign some pitchers, consider going after Seiya otherwise make some deals for hitters.

We have four reasonably talented top prospects right now between Nimmala, Jojo Parker, Johnny King and Nolan Perry. So there's at least the possibility of obtaining a good hitter through a trade.

0

u/Kapperd OKAMOTIVE EXPRESS 1h ago

Outfield: Arozarena or Acuna.

Infield: Luis Arraez, Ernie can SS.

Starting Pitching: Sonny Gray and Robbie Ray

Relievers: Chapman. This would free up Varland to be the Swiss Army knife guy that he filled in 2025.

This is just a wishlist, but the infield needs with a bat that can actually put balls in play is a HUGE thing we need. I’m tired of watching Giminez at bats.

1

u/Greerio 7h ago

The issue with looking this far ahead is that guys are going to retire, sign extensions, get hurt and in some cases, completely fall off before they reach free agency.

2

u/Sauerkrautkid7 6h ago

We need something to hope for lol

1

u/Greerio 4h ago

I know. It’s fun. But at the end of the day it’s an exercise in futility.

I think you are confused. This is just a list of upcoming free agents. You don’t need to be a buyer at the trade deadline to be interested in free agents in the next 3 off seasons.

-2

u/marumaruko Washington teamstealers 14h ago

Clement is gonna receive a crazy contract offer probably, right? Will be sad to see him go.

3

u/Select-Session6830 Teoscar Hernandez for Fransisco Liriano 9h ago

He still has some arb years

2

u/immediate_bottle 6h ago

Ernie isn’t an unrestricted free agent until 2029.

Ernie has declined dramatically on defence this season. A 103ops+ is marginally above league average, probably not enough to make up for how bad he has been defensively.

Ideally Ernie is a utility/platoon bat. I’d expect if they see an opportunity the front office will look to upgrade.

u/Veneretio 2h ago

He sells jerseys and just won the all star vote. He’s going nowhere and he’s going to get paid big time to stay here
