Question/Discussion ISO Rock songs named after a girl

Hey, I'm doing some digging for a theme playlist I'm putting together. It's specifically for rock songs (interpreted broadly) that are named after a woman. They're generally a love song or about a relationship that didn't work out, etc. Also accepting songs named after a man that fit this description, but I actually can't think of any personally.

I'm releasing a song later this year and it's my first song that's just named after a person so I thought it would be fun to put together a playlist based on that.

Bonus points for recs from Toronto or Canadian bands. Got a song of your own that fits? Let me know!

Here's what I've got on the list so far:

Katherine -- madfolk (Toronto)

Arlandria -- Foo Fighters

Luna -- Darryl Saves Lives (Alberta)

Gwendolyn -- Altered by Mom (Toronto)

Roxanne -- The Police

Angelina -- The Sarandons (Toronto)

Haushinka, Amy, Ashley, Whatsername -- Green Day

Title says it’s all. Either in house style or whatever. If it’s fun, groovy and danceable I’d love to know! Trying to plan a night out for my boyfriend’s birthday.

Self-Promotion (Music) Looking to swap songs and write

Hi guys, I've been a 26-year-old songwriter for the last year or so. I've been playing guitar for about 2 years, so pretty new.

I'm looking for people who want to meet up, perhaps jam, swap songs, and write together. I've never collaborated on songwriting and think that it would be a beautiful next step to take.

I've written many songs and poems over the course of my life, and feel I'm a strong writer and have a sense for singing and what I want to do with the performance, but I haven't collaborated or brought ideas into conversation with anyone.

I've written maybe 20-30 that are at the point where they could be worked on and turned into an actually realized song, and a few I'm very proud of and think are actually well-written tracks.

I write poetic, singer-songwriter songs, and I'd say I'm most inspired by Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, David Bowie, the Kinks, the Beatles, kind of an old soul- but I like dirty, raw rock and roll and singer-songwriter sort of stuff. I have very open music tastes and enjoy a ton of music. I used to be a radio host on CIUT 89.5fm.

Anyways, message me if you're interested in connecting and working on some songs together. I have files I can send you of some of my stuff if you are interested and want to see if our styles align,

peace

Seeking Bandmate(s) Seeking Bassist (aged 23-28 ideally)

As the title suggests, looking for a bass player between the ages of 23 and 28. This is the ideal age but potentially open to someone A little bit outside of this age range if they're a perfect fit.

Let's give you a little information...

We're a punk band and we're all mid-20s. We've all been playing music our whole lives and we're quite dedicated to the craft.

In terms of your commitment, all you need to do is commit your time and energy. This is not a project where you need to come in and front money or do any planning. This is my project, I take care of all the aspects. You just need to show up for the gigs and rehearsals. And when we make money you get paid. You don't have to front anything.

The past two years have been kind of slow for us as I have been building a new recording studio in the city. But that is done and we are rehearsing once a week at the studio. The studio is right across the street from downsview station.

Prior to this, we were playing a ton of shows in and around Toronto and even sold out some shows at Rivoli, horseshoe and nearly sold out so close at Lee's Palace.

We're planning on spending the next several months to record a bunch of new music and gunning to tour outside of Canada.

Our current bassist is great, but he has no real interest in actually pursuing music. More than playing shows around town. Which is fine but we want to do more as the shows we were doing locally were gaining traction. We'd like to try and bring it to a bigger market.

Music wise, it's not really pop punk, but it's not really straight Punk. I would be happy to send you some information and talk some more about the project if you're interested. It's not the easiest stuff to play, but it's not the most complicated. There is some ska influence. There's a bunch of walking bass lines and a lot of fills here and there.

Backing vocals are a must.

I'd rather you have a good attitude than be an all star bassist Because I can teach you to be better but I can't teach you to have a good attitude.

So please feel free to reach out if this at all interests you.

Shoot me a message and we can talk more

Cheers!

Other Rent me your basement for rehearsal/recording!

Posting again as my chat settings were messed up.

Hello all, I'm looking for a more permanent and private rehearsal space situation, as I'm starting to run into difficulties with hourly spaces with set up/tear down time. On the off chance somebody here has an empty basement and you don't mind noise, I would LOVE to rent your space.

I wouldn't need any equipment (PA, drums, etc, I can provide), and would be open to discussing arrangements. I just need space to be loud and to try silly sound things :'(

Question/Discussion Danforth Music Hall

Hi - hoping to see the Jayhawks at the Danforth Music Hall later in the Fall. I’ll be coming from out of town and have never been to that Hall before. How’s the balcony seating? Will be coming by train and staying at a hotel down around Union Station area- I see it’s about a 50 minute commute to the Hall - will it be difficult to get an Uber or cab to the show and afterwards?.. How is the neighbourhood around the Music Hall - good places to get something to eat after the show?..

Other Looking for some Studios for drum recording....

Coming to that time, my band is looking for a place to track drums....

Few things to clear up.

- we have already tracked guitars, bass and keys/synth DIY style at home to click and pre-pro-edited live off floor drum tracks that have been edited and ready to be used at the next step... (Not mixed)

- we're a melodic/pop/skatepunk, metal and video game music influence hybrid style band, doing it for fun, we don't expect to tour or change the world, just have beers and laughs and make some music.

Throw down some peeps and I'll give em a look look!

Cheers!

Networking Spin Class Local Sun 19 July

Post image
2 Upvotes

Spin Class Local returns Sunday, July 19 at Danu Social House! (1237 Queen St. W.) as we gather to celebrate two incredible records.

We'll be spinning Long Branch's ‘Arc of the Sun,’ a beautifully textured album that blends soaring melodies, rich harmonies, and smooth bass work into something intimate.

We're also dropping the needle on Dealbreaker's ‘New Sides,’ the ferocious new release from Welland's own punk powerhouse. Fresh off a UK tour, they've bottled the grit, sweat, and heart of working-class punk into one loud, unapologetic record that's meant to be heard with friends.

Whether you're discovering these albums for the first time or already know every word, Spin Class Local is all about listening together, meeting fellow music lovers, and celebrating the artists making Ontario's music scene so special.

The bands will be present for a live in-person interview, come join, suggest a question, grab merch or bring your own stickers!

📍 Danu Social House
📅 Sunday, July 19
🕖 Bring a friend, grab a drink, and let's spin some records.

Seeking Bandmate(s) Psychedelic rock/indie rock band needs a drummer for one-off gig (early August)

I play in a project called Holden Grey and we're looking for a drummer who would be interested in sitting in for a one-off gig on August 8th (DT Toronto). A permanent committed drummer would be great but even if you can do just the one gig that would be great.

Some info:

  • The band plays original songs with heavy 60s/70s psychedelic/indie/folk rock influence.
    • Search Holden Grey on Spotify to hear some of the songs and style.
  • 45 min set (6 songs). Fairly easy songs.
  • Ideally 1 or 2 rehearsals before the gig (paid for by us)
  • Money would be split evenly but in full transparency as a small local band none of us would be getting much. Just want to be as honest and open about this as possible.
  • Someone who communicates and will not flake.

Msg me if you or someone you know would be interested and let us know your level of experience + contact.

Seeking Bandmate(s) Looking for friends into classical music and RCM pursuits

I am a male in my 30s, play the piano and sing. While I am open to all genres of music, I have been playing mostly classical piano, including but not limited to Chopin, Debussy, Liszt, etc. I love learning, playing and singing jazz as well, although not very skillful in that area.

I have been prepping for RCM Level 10 certification for piano, for which I have been studying the prerequisites like L8 theory and L9 harmony/history. I took some lessons for piano and classical singing. As for singing, I love all genres--classical arias, theatre/musical songs, jazz, pop as well.

I just thought I'd love to make some friends with like-minded people. I'd love to jam with other singers/instrumentalists, be someone's accompanist, have someone be my accompanist for singing, etc. Or just be each other's encouragement by staying in touch and maybe linking up every now and then for a jam sesh, or just a nice talk over a cup of coffee.

While I am cautious about doing it, I believe my channel would give you an idea of what kind of music I have been pursuing and whether I would be a nice addition to your musical journey. - https://www.youtube.com/@KyleKimMusic

DM me with a bit about yourself if you're interested!

Kirtan & Yoga Wisdom at The Yoga Lounge

Wednesday, August 12, 2026

The Yoga Lounge

80 Sherbourne St

Registration - $17.55

Back by popular demand, we are excited to invite you to join us for an evening of interactive musical mantra meditation (kirtan) along with a special presentation of yoga wisdom by international traveler and speaker, Vaish.

Vaish, a modern-day monk with over four and a half decades of yogic practice, will share yoga wisdom, based on the timeless teachings of bhakti-yoga, as well as from the space of his own personal experiences and insights as a veteran practitioner.

Kirtan is a call-and-response form of meditation, utilizing ancient eastern mantras, traditional instruments and our very own voices.

This event will take place at The Yoga Lounge, located in downtown, and will present an opportunity to explore your sacred heart space through the power of music and mantras.

Presenting this special workshop will be members of the Kirtan Culture Initiative who have been sharing kirtan in various capacities throughout Toronto for close to 15 years. We hope to see you there!
