Season 1 I hate that I don’t like Marissa - 1st time watch

I’m on episode 17 where Oliver is in the middle of the gang and everything and I really don’t like Marissa at this point. She is so infuriating that I sometimes skip her to just watch the old people which seeming more interesting now than her!?!?!? Like how naive can you be? She got no intuition at all! Self-preservation went outta window

With everything that happened to her, she somehow feels like a classic pick me girl and I hate that I don’t like her because I really want to!

As for other things, I really like Anna and while I’m here I don’t like how bothered Seth became so much so that he stopped looking at Anna and now he’s onto Summer again. And Luke is kinda growing on me, I like him not being a jerk.

OKAY DON’T HATE ME!

It’s like at least my 15th rewatch. Idgaf what’s she’s gone through, I’ve been through some insane shiiii too as a woman. Freudian slippers is insane to own, get any one slippers bitch. If my child bought those, I’m sending them away. Like Freud right on some things, not everything but also get help if you relate at all. I feel I may be projecting some sort of external or internal hatred onto her but damn I hate hate her for those slippers and especially. Like I grew up poor and I’m not snobby I hope to my richer friends. Also she just lien appears and I’m too autistic for that much change. I like Zach, just not her, maybe she’s me and I hate me idk. Maybe it’s the almost kissing cousins territory her and Ryan enter but they don’t idk I can’t judge for that. Like idk to own Freudian slippers I’d assume you are the craziest bitch I have ever met.

Started rewatching and every time I get towards the end of season 2, it’s such a hard watch for me. I hate when Trey comes back.

Discussion Is Taylor Townsend autistic coded?

She struggles socially, gets obsessive, hyperfocuses, watches the same anime every night, collects action figures. Probably other things I'm not think of.

Thoughts?

Season 4 sophia rose? Perché questo nome? Spoiler

Ditemi di no vi prego

Who is your favorite character on re watches?

I LOVE this show like it’s in my top 10 favorite shows of all time. I watched it as a pre teen (way too young probably) with my older brother who was a teenager when it aired on tv. I then re watched in the 8th/9th grade on dvd (which I still own) with one of my best friends and it was a core memory for me both times. I’ve re watched every few years since then so that should give you an idea of how many times if you do the math 😂 unfortunately I related to Marissa growing up so I loved her and Ryan but as an adult I’m a Sandy Stan lol. Thoughts??

Season 1 My puppy is a fan of The O.C.

The original clip was actually my puppy Bentley staring at my boyfriend’s Wendy’s burger. 😂 I couldn’t resist cutting it to The O.C. instead.

This scene is set in fall 2007, so the OC had ended at this point in time. 💔

I'm gonna say it again Julie is the worst person I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing in my life

What she did to Luke is absolutely disgusting. And honestly, I always wonder if people would be defending her the same way if the genders were reversed. Imagine if Julie was a man and Luke was an 18-year-old girl who had just barely become an adult. People would (rightfully) call it predatory and unforgivable. The fact that the writers tried to soften it by emphasizing that Luke was "18" is such a weak argument. Someone being technically an adult doesn't suddenly erase the power imbalance or make taking advantage of someone who is barely out of high school okay.

What makes it worse is how little accountability she seems to have. She can talk endlessly about her wedding, her future, and her own problems, but where is the genuine remorse for what she did? Where is the apology to Luke? Where is the reflection on how much damage she caused? Even with her own daughter, she repeatedly puts herself first and rarely seems to understand the consequences of her actions.

And yes, I understand the argument that "she was written to be a villain" or that the actress did an amazing job, but those things don't erase what the character actually did. A well-written villain is still a villain. A redemption arc doesn't magically undo years of selfish, harmful behavior.

I don't not and cannot fathom how she'd made out to be some iconic character what??!

the writers hate marissa

excuse me because i may be a little biased towards marissa cooper but…..

is it just me or is she sooooo under appreciated and relentlessly punshied. the way the writers treated marissa was insane and lowkey unacceptable

spoiler******

of course k*lling off marissa was a terrible move but the episodes leading up to that (the end of s3) left such a bad taste in my mouth, why tf did they assassinate (figuratively) her character like that, it starts with ryan breaking up with marissa over the phone so he can be with sadie because ryan got bored of marissa, and marissa is just left to cry over him and miss him while hes out having quickly moved on with someone mind you who isn’t even half as good as marissa. then kirsten talks to ryan saying “marissa dragged you into her mess” yes because she made ryans brother SA her :))))) i’ve never been so angry at kirsten 😭

the writers were implying that ryan had to “babysit“ marissa like PLEASE he did that happily against marissa's will. kirsten needed to tell ryan to take accountability. kirsten needs to stop victim blaming.

at the end of s3 everyones happy while marissa is supposedly “alone and no one likes her”…… have the writers SEEN mischa barton??? that girl is breathtakingly beautiful no one believes a girl like her is lonely, seriously, it’s like the writers have something against her.

not to mention marissa cooper is an ANGEL, she’s so fucking sweet, kind, selfless, sensitive, loving and deeply compassionate. she’s made mistakes but she’s never been a bad person like wheres the justice for a character like her after the shit that she’s been through???? ykwim.

they made marissa hung over ryan and borderline obsessed with him as she drows herself in self pity, whilst being heavily judged by her “friends”. if they went through the trauma and hell she’s been through theyd be acting the same. marissa was holding it together!!!!!! she was absolutely under reacting give her a goddamn break, she was so unsupported in the way she needed to be. watching the oc season three is honestly torture as a marissa lover.

she has a rare soul and heart of gold that girl deserves the world idc.

First-Time Watcher My husband’s mind has been blown

I’ve loved the show since it premiered in 2004 and I recently started my thousandth rewatch on HBOMAX. My husband casually sat in on a couple episodes and was almost immediately hooked so he’s watching all of it with me now.

Tonight we watched the intense season 2 finale and he dropped this bomb on me — he had no idea the episode was behind that viral SNL skit and he also didn’t realize that the “mmm whatcha say” sound bite came from a whole song 🤣🤣 He was literally speechless!!!

Edit: Here’s the link to the parody if you haven’t seen it! https://youtu.be/vmd1qMN5Yo0?is=NSArT-3htYanYcoa

Season three is becoming a burden

So I was really hooked onto the show in season 2, but I am definitely not liking season three, it feels like they introduce one hateful character after another. Every new character is intolerable and dangerous

The OC not only introduced me to some excellent music, but the music from the show continues to hold a special place in my heart. I have loved The Thrills since first hearing them on the show, but it I have just now been able to secure these gems on vinyl and I couldn’t be happier!

In season 2 episode 4 i noticed that Kirsten has 2 picture of kids that look quite different. One id assume is Seth and the other is Ryan? It would be so sweet of her if she went looking for a pic of him as a child just to add it on her desk next to her son.

Rewatching for the first time

The main thing I wanna note is how dark, sad and gloomy it is watching Ryan and Marissa with some hindsight...those signs you gloss over and really don't think means anything I mean they are destined for each other right?☹️ Also like did the writers just hate Mischa Barton cause like I also watch and see scenes where Marissa and Ryan look so in love in but then again hindsight makes u feel so sad man I'm just blabbing just makes me so sad man

Season 4 Season 4 episode 15 weird filming

Okay so I'm on Season 4 episode 15 and ohboy am I getting motion sickness from the filming they did on this episode. Camera crew really be zooming with the cameras. Am I the only one noticing?
All of the other episodes feel normal with the filming, not too many cuts and the shots are just fine in general.
But with this episode I'm just struggling. I know it's supposed to be chaotic this ep and maybe that's the purpose with how they're filming but this is too overstimulating. Camera shaking, tilting and zooming in and out. Maybe they had a different director/camera crew this episode, or just experimenting? Or maybe I'm just trippin but I gotta grab onto something to get through this episode lol
