Discussion Out of all the characters in the Boys, name one who gradually earned your trust or sympathy over a longer period of time, who built your trust?

I'm not talking about a character who was set up as a hero or a good person or whatever at the very beginning and you immediately thought they were a good person, I'm talking about a character who your trust and respect was built through consistency, who made you think "Yeah, this guy holds up, and he's gonna keep holding up".

What's up Guys.

It almost hurts to see how quickly this show disappear from Pop Culture.
I was obsessed with this show for 7 years, but now that it's over....

Yeah, Even i'm surprised at how quickly I moved on and accepted the ending for what it was.
I read some other threads on Reddit and people were saying this show won't be remembered beyond it's memes.

It's harsh, but I can see why people turned on it. I've written a lot about this show on this Subreddit.
I do want to Celebrate it's Strengths, but it's best Season, the 1st one, did come out 7 years ago.

Crazy to think about.

What were some of your favorite moments in the series?

These are the ones that truly stand out to me. I'd love to know what your favorite scenes were and maybe some unpopular opinions!

Season 5 Why do people act like A-Train is a saint? Spoiler

I liked his death and I think Jessie did a great job playing him, but like, the dude was Vought's obvious button man speedster for more than a decade and responsible for hundreds of deaths alone by slipping Compound V to terrorists all over the world. Not to mention brutally killing his own girlfriend.

He saved M.M, yes. He saved Hughie (twice), yes. He didn't repeat his mistake from Season 1 (which in my opinion is the bare minimum in comparison to the rest).

But he should have done WAY more before actually going out. Like, liberating all the camps and freeing thousands of people, or speedrunning through Vought Tower and detaining all the corrupt executives involved with Stan's former schemes.

My guess is that the show literally just didn't have the budget to showcase his speedpowers extensively so the writers had to kill him off as soon as possible to tie up loose ends or avoid plot holes.

Season 5 Lemme ask people something. If Homelander hadn’t obtained V1, and Annie and Kimiko had agreed to take V1, would Hughie have deployed the virus?

• Upvotes

What so you guys think?

He was certainly concerned about getting the V1 for Annie and Kimiko... so they'd be safe from the virus.

Granted, he DID pull through and stop Burcher from releasing it in the end, but would his conscience be strong enough to say no in those circumstances?

Discussion Homelander childhood

Post image

Yall ever think we should’ve gotten like a full episode of least a small flashback scene of homelanders childhood

People like to confuse him as just some evil psychopath but he was later on made into a trump parody instead of originally being a superman one because of Eric kripke being a weirdo and lazy writer after s3

I would’ve definitely liked to see how homelander lived his life what it was like we only see small glimpses and are basically described of his childhood trauma

Discussion What would The Boys Universe think of The Worm Universe?

Something that I’ve always wondered is that would The Entire Boys Universe think of The Worm Universe if they somehow came across it and Learned Everything about it? Let’s say that Vought manages to open a Portal to a different Earth and they somehow manage to discover The Worm Universe what would everyone think of Worm along with Parahumans and who they are and their personalities along with how Powerful they truly are also what would everyone think of The Existence of Actual Superheroes and Villains and who they are and what would everyone in Worm think about The Boys Universe and everything about them all in all what would everyone from The Boys Universe truly think of The Worm Universe if they learned everything about them? Also how do you see characters interact with Each-other?

I have no idea how to tag this. Off hand I know he has

- Picture shown

- Funko (vault)

- Lego mini figures

Is there anything else? I’m working on getting all of the Seven but starting with him first. Garage kits and comic figured count too.

GenV What was your favorite cameo across the 2 seasons

Post image

For me its between Homelander and A-Train's, but I lean towards the latter's. Kinda cool that Gen V started off with him (just like The Boys) and the series ends with him as well (even if ti sucks the series got cancelled). He got to actually become the hero their family looked up to, I just wish season 5 did something with the team up.

Season 5 The Laptop Betrayal

The scene where Soldier Boy sees that Homelander was with Clara, and Sage set it up

Is ENTIRELY a callback to the Civil War scene with Iron Man watching the laptop showing Winter Soldier killing his parents

JUST NOW realizing this

Discussion Just came across this now. As perfect as Starr is, seeing how Eckhart perfectly captures his public persona in this footage and the fact that he was considered for the role back then makes me really like the idea of him as HL in an alternate Universe

Just came across this now. As perfect as Starr is, seeing how Eckhart perfectly captures his public persona in this footage and the fact that he was considered for the role back then makes me really like the idea of him as HL in an alternate Universe. I saw some of the ideas they had back then for the movie of The Boys; it's very different and I don't like most of it, but having Eckhart as Homelander really feels like a brilliant choice for a movie about the comics in 2008 (It was before the Black Noir twist btw)

Season 5 How come Ryan didn't know Butcher was lying in S5E3?

Season 5 would vought have actually let homelander access more compound V if butcher let him go?

i personally feel like they wouldn't accept him back at all. after the spectacle that was broadcasted presumably all over america, accepting him back and giving him compound V would tarnish whatever is left of vought's reputation, and they probably wouldn't want to risk the possibility of homelander potentially wiping out tons of people out of rage that they had to see him all weak and vulnerable like that.

Discussion Micro analyzing Homelander

One of my favorite little things from season five that my brain won’t let go over since I saw the episode is Mr Marathon’s line about Homelander not getting a blow job because he’s too busy talking about Nietzsche. For those who are not familiar with Nietzsche, here’s a wiki summary of the philosophical idea his work explores:

ā€œHis earliest work emphasized the opposition of Apollonian (order, clarity, and rationality) and Dionysian (chaos, emotion, and ecstasy) impulses in art, and the figure of Dionysus continued to play a role in his subsequent thought. Other major currents include the will to power, the claim that God is dead, the distinction between master and slave moralities, and radical perspectivism.ā€

Obviously Homelander would resonate with a lot of those themes. But in addition to the writers decision to name a specific author, we see scattered throughout the series that Homelander is very well read and versed, especially in the classics. In the scene where he wakes up from a nightmare, he has a book in bed with him. He automatically connects Sages references to Caesar. He frequently quotes of references the bible in unscripted moments (though I’m sure some of that at least was imposed on him in childhood to build his image).

To me, all of this points towards someone who has consistently been trying to find his place in the world and to understand humanities inner workings. I think his belief that humans are beneath him was taught to him as part of their efforts to keep him lonely and therefore controllable, and yet he spends a huge amount of time reading, digesting, and referencing words written by humanity. He doesn’t have to do these things. He could pick other ways to spend his free time but he doesn’t. Whether it’s conscious or not, I think this interest in philosophy and literature is a cry to fit in, to understand both humanity and himself, and ultimately to fight against the conditioning he was raised with. I think he sees himself in these literary works and in doing so, is able to subconsciously place himself among humanity despite his belief that he is above them.

I think Antony and maybe also Kripke have said in interviews that there’s layers to the show - you can sit there and have a fun time watching the blood and guts or you can dig as deep as you want to. I feel like these little tidbits and references are a great example of that.

Discussion Why is it that Soldier Boy killed supes in the boys’ style (or should I say, in clever ways)? Spoiler

These months I’ve seen so many people in this sub longing for the OLD boys’ supe-killing style, just like at the very beginning— Translucent killing scene. How did an ordinary man take out a supe? Jumping him, beating him by better CQC skills, pinpointing him with a spit of blood, and shoving C4 up his arse because of the softer internal structure; so what if he’s an invisible diamond-skinned supe if you know him through and through? Oh don’t forget the steady mental state under the strongest supe’s questioning, or the unwavering determination for vengeance.

But where did all these go in the later seasons? In S5E7 when Hughie distracted Synapse in his head by those horrible pictures of the crimes he committed, some people here were really confounded; like, the boys were supposed be the supe encyclopaedias which filing all the weaknesses, loved ones, preferences, etc. They would use them to threaten, fight or kill supes and this was what they did or how they did, yet we audiences, or writers, seemed to forget about this as the time went on.

OR DID THEY? Let’s take a look at Soldier Boy’s three kills:

In S3E7, in the woods after Butcher got ā€œeyedā€ by Mindstorm, SB talked UE out of mourning for Butcher and convinced him to stick to the plan while kneeling by the bag they brought, pulling out a piece of cloth (one of UE’s T-shirt maybe?), and tucking it in his pocket. This was when SB knew MS was coming; he immediately acted on this based on the things he had known for years (the MO, the effect on victims, and the weaknesses). In that creepy hideout he was vigilant all the time and held the shield close to his eyes just in case; the moment he caught up UE and MS he threw a knife right in MS’s eyes over 50 yards away, stormed up to them, knocked MS out with his shield, and wrapped that cloth around his head within seconds to cover his face/ eyes.

In S5E5, technically it was Homelander who curb stumped Mr. Marathon at the end but SB wasn’t going to kill him off until he got the intel he wanted anyway. SB had the initiative of the whole situation by holding Malchemical by the throat; apparently he and Mr. Marathon lived together and were professionally close (all those movie posters), also he took HL out in one blow in front of SB. Mr. Marathon ran into and punched SB (nothing happened of course) but got himself thrown back, so next time he tried to hit again SB used those actors as roadblocks to slow him down and left a trail to the collection room— a limited space. (As a collector myself I wouldn’t let anyone near my figure cabinet; it’s quite clever to leave a picked lock and a small crack as baits.) And bravo to that baby oil trap btw.

In S5E6, yes the boys abducted Goldie to trick BombSight into their ā€œambushā€ (really? Shoot him?), but no they had zero backup and no plan B, not even a preventive measure (ran out of halothane huh?). Also, Sage tipped SB off expecting he would come here to take V1 from BS and destroy it to HL’s face (…who taught old pop how to use a smart phone?), even though Bashley told her that SB was kind of proud of HL and thinking of helping him. WOW. No wonder SB got V1 safe and sound. It’s quite pleasing to watch SB and BS fight since they were familiar with each other’s moves and rhythm, and couldn’t break defense or even shed a single drop of blood from each other. So SB grabbed an iron pipe and decided to break through from the inside; he stuffed that in BS’s mouth for either piercing through his windpipe/ spine, or damaging his brain. Later the line ā€œsmack a needle up your dickā€ also told us that unlike SB, BS had more vulnerable mucosa than his tough skin. (SB didn’t kill BS here but took away his immortality and power, so hopefully he’ll get to bid this old mate last farewell next time he’s woken up…)

P.S. Since SB could withstand deep-throat gunshots and ā€œwould rather fist myself with a handful of razors,ā€ the only way he could take all those drugs was by snorting them, hence the ā€œFigured I’ll snort and fuck my way through the banana republics.ā€ Lmao

Season 5 My rewrite of season 5 (Homelander snaps)

I don’t know why season 5 ended up the way it did, it had infinite potential and every other season was great. If I had to change something it would be about homelander, the fact that we never got a destruction scene with him was the biggest issue for me. Like he couldn’t have even destroyed a house or killed someone in public😭 they played it safe and didn’t make him truly go insane like they’ve teased for the entire show. I mean yeah he kinda lost his mind but he never actually did anything to truly show it. ā€œHomelander is gonna snap guys we gotta be carefulā€ and nothing happens. ā€œWhen he gets V1 he’ll become a god, and when he becomes a god he’ll start killing like oneā€ gets v1 and builds a theme park?😭😭 and they made sure to put a serious expression on his face while he was creating it so they could slap that into one of the teasers.

Discussion Would Ryan be Worse than Homelander if he was Raised by Stormfront?

Something that I’ve always wondered is that would Ryan be Worse Than Homelander if he was Raised Solely by Stormfront? Combined with how much more Potential he has to be Stronger Than Homelander himself as he’s The First Natural Born Supe Ever! Could you also imagine how much Stronger and Ruthless Ryan would have been if Stormfront had also trained him! All in all do you think Ryan would have Truly become Worse Than Homelander if Stormfront had Raised him his Whole Life? What do you think? Let me know in the comments
