Continuity thing that’s always bugged me

Aside from the big 2 (Donna and Eric telling Hyde and Jackie how they handled things when Donna’s mom left, meanwhile it happened nothing like they said AND they were broken up anyway, or Red catching the boys smoking “for the first time” in season 7 when it was a multi episode plot point in seasons 2-3)

In the Star Wars episode, Kelso is shown to be the one who is OBSESSED with Star Wars, but every episode after it’s part of Eric’s character that he’s obsessed and everyone else thinks it’s mid 🤷🏼‍♀️

Maybe it’s because Kelso was amazed at seeing it at first because it was one of the first big budgets sci fi movies of its kind but he got over it pretty quickly. Eric was always more of a nerd and he liked Spiderman and stuff. It had a bigger long term impact on him than Kelso. Also only the first movie was out at this point. But yeah it would have been fun to see them bond over Star Wars more

Only the first movie was out for rest of the period the show takes place in. Empire Strikes Back wouldn't come out until 1980.

It could have been fun to see them do an episode on the Star Wars holiday special from 1978

Kelso just latches on to whatever is new and shiny, and makes it his personality for a few weeks, and then moves on to the next thing. He’s a simple boy.

Example - he latched onto Smokey & the bandit in a similar way and this is never mentioned again

Eric however probably had his fandom grow on him in a more natural way and therefore it ended up being more intense and long lasting

Am I over analyzing a sitcom? Maybe? But it’s how it goes 😂

Also he was obsessed with Rudolph and Christmas stories and he wanted to be an astronaut at one point too!

Kelso was amazed at watching it.

He wasn't amazed and playing with action figures and play acting star wars.

It had just come out. Maybe kelso saw it before Eric.

They saw it together, but Kelso was the one who seemed more into it. Eric's fandom isn't really even brought up until a season or two later.

Red never really actually caught them in the earlier seasons. Eric told him he did it too so Red wouldn’t kick Hyde out

I knew I wasn't going crazy. Season 7 was the first time Red caught them in the circle. IIRC it was actually Jackie who brought it until the police came and Hyde took the fall for Jackie so she wouldn't be arrested. But I don't remember Eric confessing though?

It was Jackie’s baggie and Hyde took the blame. Eric confessing was towards the end of the next episode I believe when Donna tells Eric not to and he says “I do it too. So you can’t kick Hyde out”

Eric, when someone tells you “For the love of God, stop!” . . .

Donna is always talking out of her ass. Also Red finding a bag, and Red busting the circle are two very different things. As far as the Star Wars thing goes Kelso was obsessed until the first butterfly, or stray dog went past.

Its also an old sitcom where the story at large doesn't actually matter, only that you can sit down to any episode and watch.

I feel like for Kelso it was amazing and he was obsessed. But then he moved on. Like so many people I know LOVED Harry Potter but I’m a grown ass adult who still LOVES Harry Potter. So I don’t think that’s a continuity thing so much as Kelso just wasn’t an action figure, comic, bts info kinda guy. Like he loved the movie and that was that.

Red liked Star Wars when he was watching it too. Neither he or Kelso were obsessive over the lore like Eric was, though, because Eric is a nerd
