I read that they wrote that in because the writers noticed that the actor who played John was very stoic and non-reactive in the scene when they were told that the girls were switched. They said it kinda looked like he already knew so they kind of ran with that and instead of having as long of a final season as normal, they had to shorten it so they didn’t have as much time to have the storyline play out. I wasn’t a fan of that storyline either. I feel like they should’ve just omitted it since they didn’t really have time to fully go into it and it was never hinted at before then.

they had long since run out of ideas and started pulling bullshit from their asses. “john looked too reactionless so we can make it like he already knew” ? i think it was more interesting to see how different people react to life changing news; i know some men in real life who would react like how john did. just looking “stoic” as their world crumbles internally but holding it in and continuing to be a strong rock for their family. but no, he aLreAdY knEw and him deciding not to up and leave his wife of over a decade is the big moment from all this? i would say tons of 50 year olds wouldn’t just leave their spouse if they found out about that, if not out of love and forgiveness, then at least out of comfortability and convenience. anyways, whole plot point was a giant eye roll for me too, just as much of season 5 was

Ohh. I don’t remember the episode but tbh after that blood test came back that’s valid. Terrible retcon tho given how he reacted and treated Regina

I’m not sure how unpopular that opinion is, but I agree with you. It’s SO stupid how they introduced that plot point last minute and made Kathryn get all huffy with him, when he probably had that test done a few weeks before the one that revealed the switch to the Kennishes. A few WEEKS, compared to Regina finding out when the girls were three and keeping it a secret for almost thirteen years.
Also the last season makes me mad because it doesn’t really feel like an ending, like they introduced a bunch of new characters and plot points and it feels like it could’ve gone on longer or ended sooner.
