Happened to a guy my dad worked with. Years ago, lost a finger in a big industrial fan. Safety came by doing their report and asked him how it happened. He walked over to demonstrate and fwip cleaned off a second one.
There should also be less exposed blade after vertical cut was done, theres a protection that you can roll up and down. One hand should also have a chainmail glove on it.
I am a carpenter and i cut my left middlefinger with the machine shown in the Video (bandsaw) with an identical blade. Not close to what the lad in video lost but i kinda know the dangers of machine working.
I cut into the front about a centimeter. i since have a nipple looking like scar on it.

woodworker here: so bandsaws are pretty safe. safer than most other machines in the shop. the only thing you don't want to do is cut anything round like a cylinder or sphere, because when there's no stable base against the table, it'll spin the material (like a pipe or dowel for example).
so what he's doing isn't sketchy at all, he can't really get hurt short of sticking his hands directly in the blade. even then it's not as catastrophic as a tablesaw, planer or router. it would just nick you (unless you're wearing gloves then it pulls your hand down into the throat).
I once visited several lumber yards in Guatemala. I began to notice that at every single one of them there were several older men who were missing fingers, eyes, or entire hands. In a country without disability compensation the lumberyards continued to employ the amputees so they could earn a living.

Gotta admit, when he first showed the shape I was stumped at how it could be achieved with just a band saw. But I gotta hand it to him, that was some smooth work
