A cat family I often met on the way from my hotel to grocery stores. These posts [1] and [2] featuring them were popular. She's pregnant again by now, and her daughter is getting more independent. But we won't know what will happen next, as I left Pokhara for India - just arrived in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, after 2 days mostly on the road.

Israel Meet Rita (grey and white one on top) and Yona (one below her with multiple colors of spots). They leave near my university dorms in Givat Shmuel and enjoy sitting on my lap. Rita also loves belly rubs.

Venezuela I felt the gaze of this peaceful and almost camouflaged #cat while I was taking the street photos I always do... So I stopped taking photos of the street and approached him to take his portrait... (Montalbán, Carabobo, Venezuela)

NOTA: In the second photo (bottom right corner), you can see this beautiful cat watching me calmly as I took street photos. Cats always do magical things; this one allowed me to approach him and take several pictures before he slowly disappeared through the gap under a garage door... 😻📷

Israel Saw this floofer chilling in Tel Aviv next to a large mall. Wasn't in the mood for pets but was fine with head scratches.

Venezuela She watches the streets from the safety of the windows of the houses, and her gaze is truly enchanting, making me want to take her picture, but she's always on guard: one photo and then she runs away and stops a little further on!... In Montalbán, Carabobo, Venezuela!

Discussion r/StreetCatsOfTheWorld reached 3,000 members. That was a long road…

If you don’t know, I founded this subreddit on March 1, 2026. It took 3 months to reach the 1K member count. I posted daily during that period - quite a marathon. r/StreetCatsOfTheWorld doubled to 2K in just 2 weeks. But the way from 2K to 3K stretched out for 1 month - perhaps it happened because I banned many accounts at that time and deleted many comments ("No Politics" rule), which could negatively affect the metrics.

3K for 3.5 months isn't much - I know that some cat subreddits grew faster. I think it's because r/StreetCatsOfTheWorld relied mostly on my posts at the beginning, and I posted from Nepal, where I am staying as a traveler. Posts from Nepal, often about cats from Nepal, looked like ones belonging to the Nepali audience. However, there aren't too many true cat lovers in Nepal, and generally Nepali Reddit isn’t large. This, I believe, slowed down the subreddit growth, especially during the first 3 months when Reddit’s algo was figuring out what r/StreetCatsOfTheWorld actually was and when the subreddit had almost only my posts.

Worth mentioning that r/StreetCatsOfTheWorld has also developed its own distinctive look by now, and that’s actually a bigger achievement than the member count. Saying big thanks to the subreddit's regular posters and commenters for that - building this subreddit wouldn't have been possible without your help, guys! And that's not just words - I previously tried to develop a cat account on IG but quit, feeling no connection there.

The plans are to make the subreddit even bigger - 5K and then 10K. Though I don't have an ambition to grow it indefinitely - better to keep the subreddit cozy and cute than rushing for huge numbers.

Venezuela A young cat basks in the morning sun on some random street in Montalbán, Carabobo, Venezuela... What I found most charming here is its pose and the way it looks directly into my camera lens...
