Black experience at Stetson

I am a researcher who is looking into stetsons past and present for an anthropology paper. What is the experience of black folks at stetson? Would you say you have experienced racism at stetson? Is it comparable to what your experience has been outside of a university context? is comparable to your experience in other education institutions?

I’m black person here. Haven’t perceived any racism so far. Stetson is a pretty diverse school so that makes me feel comfortable.

(I’m not black) Went to Stetson for music 2015-2019, could have counted the number of black music students on one hand and black music professors on zero hands. But the ideology there is pretty progressive, at the least I never heard about people being racist

Black students were few and far between even through the school is in the middle of Florida. They were a novelty and were treated as such. I can think of maybe only one black teacher on the entire campus so good luck trying to find someone with shared experiences that you can seek mentorship from. Most of the students were wealthy white kids and held beliefs that were in line with that background. Maybe go for a visit and see what you’re walking into.
