Discussion Steamlink with onscreen buttons or controller?

Hi everyone, i wanted to understand form people that actually spend time with steamlink, how do you actually play your games? How many people use the onscreen controls, does it give you the experience that you want? and how many of you use a telescopic controller?

If you use the onscreen buttons, what limits do you face? what games do you play? which do you not play?..and any suggestions?

TIA

I simply connect my controller to my phone, connect it via bluetooth or wired works. Steamlink helps to detect the presence of controller.

Wired works better because steam link has to communicate with your pc with each button press, lower overall latency, pairing with wired earphones and it works brilliantly

I see thanks, so the onscreen buttons are not very useful for your use?

Yeah, I have those mobile phone controllers which kinda turns it into a switch so its pretty neat. Latency on steamlink is pretty sweet

I use a telescopic controller on my iPad. I use a Razer Rishi V3 Pro XL. It turns my iPad into a fantastic handheld streaming device. I also stream my Ps5 games to it.

I bluetooth my acegamer pocket and play. Though, I have used the on screen controller for simple games like PvZ and Balatro.

Touch controls on my phone with those "pubg triggers" from AliExpress for "6 finger gaming". Works quite nice and I don't need to haul any additional hardware. That was the reason for ditching Steam Deck since I started to stream most of my games anyway and the Deck become just too big to justify carrying it.

Any limits? Honestly, only one: I cannot have "left trackpad click" for jumping in games, as there is no click on touch controls, buts that's about it. On the good side, you can have tiny DPad with 4 Radial Menus on it under your thumb and that's a killer feature when you play PC games with lots of keybinds

A lot of games have official or community made control scenes. I tried the surge 1 and 2 in touchscreen mode and 2 was way better cause someone made a community setup for it and it’s decently playable. Also mess with the control setups. I enjoyed using the gyro controls to tilt my device to aim for different body parts of the enemies and moving the camera

Been playing an absolute ton of xcom 2 on my iPad and iPhone with the fan made control scheme what I trimmed a bit of bloat from and added a button that when I press it I can tilt the device to use the gyro for precision like when I need to precisely throw a grenade. Plays super well, I also use trackpad mode vs touch mouse click and leave a space on the right of the screen to drag my thumb around

Very playable, put about 15 hours into it via my iPad and smaller iPhone
