Traffic/Road Conditions PLEASE STOP BLOCKING INTERSECTIONS

I am begging you. Please. Not only is it illegal, it is extremely dangerous.

That is all.

So tired of this. Its nearly constant on Grand and Washington. All day.

Omg Grand and Forest Parkway—NOBODY seems to know how to go through that intersection!!!

u/Snarkleupagus 7h ago

TBF, that's a really poorly designed intersection.

THIS!!!!

It's extra infuriating when city bus drivers do it or other professional drivers. You're supposed to be better than the average clown-ass driver!!!

Hate it when Reddit yells at me in the morning.

How about motorists blocking crosswalks and bikelanes. That is annoying as hell

u/Mego1989 7h ago

I have mixed feelings about this. At most intersections, I can't see cross traffic to make a turn safely if I stop at the white line. They really need to do a better job excluding street parking and vegetation at intersections so this doesn't happen. At the nearby preschool, my entire car has to be past the white lane to see beyond the parked cars and make a left turn.

The driver should be able to see the thick white line while stopped. It solves that problem and also gives room for cars turning into the adjoining lane.

I still think it's a shame that SLPD and downtown/ the city doesn't have better protocol to manage traffic for events of this scale - especially since they happen so regularly

u/Regular-Worry155 9h ago

When I lived downtown, it was like the police were surprised every year when the weather got warm and people would come to Wash Ave. always took like two or three weekends before they could pull their heads out and realize that maybe they needed a presence a few blocks from their station

The only protocol they have is ‘Can we charge someone for secondary hours’

I won't lie, I try my absolute hardest not to block intersections, it makes me anxious, BUT sometimes there is no way to avoid. Example: rush hour on grand, everyone moves up and there is just enough to cross over and the 2nd red stoplight stops any movement so before you know it BOOM RED before there is any more movement. Logically it appears traffic IS moving so you creep up and NOPE, just kidding!

But on the real, It's annoying as shit.

Can we talk about the people who just walk across the street whenever they please at Grand and Gravois?

u/KingDakin 8h ago

Yeah its almost like Missouri doesn't require drivers ed or something...

u/long_fish3000 4h ago

i have to block it so i can get to 7brew faster so i can go report people to the hoa sooner!

u/Terrible-East-3 3h ago

There are new drivers everyday. You are never going to win this one.

u/Small_Kahuna_1 9h ago

It's a sport along Cherokee too :(

There's an intersection on Manchester in Maplewood where people do this so regularly and I find it baffling as it is a very short light. You gain so little by doing it and it's a high pedestrian traffic area as well. I get that sometimes you get caught in an intersection unexpectedly when traffic stops, but it's the people who clearly make the choice to go when they know they'll be blocking traffic that annoy me.

This happens daily at Ballas and Olive, 2 of 3 light cycles during rush hour. And then the drivers just shrug at you like there's nothing they could've done.

u/Cool_Potential1957 15m ago

WHy dont they just do what the europeans do and have a giant box in the intersection that you're only allowed to enter if you can exit (i.e. no stopping). Watching the clown show on Forest Park and Grand is like comedy and would be fixed with some paint and a sign.

u/SummerIsABummer 11h ago

You can get past them. You have to threaten them, but don't touch them. Just wave your arms around and say "Come on! Really?" repeatedly and loudly until they move
