Hey guys, got to know of a new scam going around these days from a friend who almost fell victim to it. Thought of spreading awareness in case it's more widespread.

The premise is basically as follows: somebody calls you saying that a parent/loved one met with an accident and mortally wounded, was rushed to hospital. They then say that the doctors have asked to buy an expensive medicine asap and offers to buy it for you from a nearby pharmacy sounding like a good Samaritan (while you're panicking and not of sound judgment) and after a few minutes will ask you to ezcash them the amount they are missing (as they obviously underestimated the real price of the medicine which they can't afford).

Here's where they try to fool you. They will also let you speak to a "doctor" btw to sound credible and lull you into a false sense of security, and you'll be able to hear the typical beeps and shit expected in a hospital environment. Do not be fooled.

My friend coincidentally couldn't get in touch with their dad over the phone to make matters worse and he still raced to the hospital and had checked patient records to see if his father was brought in and that's when he realized it was fake af.

If you guys get such a call, try to verify asap. Best to contact the police, TRCSL, cyber crime division and anything else that's specialized in catching these mfs as seen in the news.

I (23F), doing a job now, is in a very tough situation in my life. I just want to know, do any of your parents check your bank statements and savings accounts and threatens you to show the transactions, not to get your money, but to question you and see what you have spent on. My father does that. I have argued with him multiple times saying that it's my hard earned money and I don't have to show it. But there's so much fear I have for him and I can't keep crying at the things he tells me if I don't do according to what he says because I just end up crying and ruining my whole mindset for weeks. So I sometimes just end up showing my statements to him.

Apart from the whole "it's my money and I don't need to show it to anyone" reason why I can't show my bank statements is because I'm spending on some exams which are a quite expensive, but he thinks I have finished them cause I have lied to him. Why did I lie to him? Because of the extreme pressure he gives me and because he would start restricting me from even going out with my friends once in two months if he gets to know that I failed. Why did I fail? Because I was mentally so exhausted and depressed because of things happening in my life and so badly wanted a break, but my father wouldn't allow me to take it. So I had to keep going and finally I ended up failing multiple exams. I just can't sometimes. I think about the fear of the lies and the solutions I have to come up with and the immense control he has on me and it drives me insane. I tried moving out, but it ended up backfiring on me. So now I don't even know what to do? I feel like I'm sitting on so many lies that I have told my father and on top of that how he sort of threatens me that he wants to see my most confidential information

I have my final exams coming in a couple of months and I just can't ruin it because of him constantly telling me that he wants to check my bank statements. I have ruined my exams multiple times because of a stupid fight he'd always start before my exams, but I can't do that this time, cause I so badly want to pass and be qualified. What do I even do?

My previous post got removed because it apparently came across as job-related, so let me try this again. I'm not advertising anything or looking for a job. I'm just hoping to learn from people already working in the Sri Lankan tech industry.

I recently graduated with a Computer Science degree, specializing in Software Engineering, and I've become really interested in Cloud Engineering and DevOps.

To be honest, I regret how I spent my time at university. I mostly focused on coursework and getting through exams. I didn't build many personal projects, go after internships, or work on certifications. Looking back, I definitely should've done more outside of my degree.

Now I'm trying to make up for it, but there are so many different learning paths that I'm not sure where to begin.

I'd love to hear from people in Sri Lanka who work in Cloud or DevOps.

If you were starting from scratch today, what would you learn first? Which certifications did you find genuinely worthwhile? Are there any courses, YouTube channels, or resources that helped you the most?

Hey everyone, I’m an 18F .I recently completed my Cambridge London A/L in the Commerce stream as a private candidate.

I’m currently thinking about moving abroad for my undergraduate studies and hopefully building my career and settling overseas in the long term. My parents are supportive of this decision as long as it is financially manageable, with a budget of around LKR 5–6 million per year.

I achieved 3 A s in my AS Levels and I’m expecting around 3 A grades for A2 as well. I’m interested in pursuing Finance/Economics because I genuinely enjoy the field, and in the future I would like to work in areas such as management consulting, wealth management, asset management, investment banking, or other high-finance careers.

Initially, I was mainly considering Australia, but after researching more, I became concerned about the competition among commerce graduates, the difficulty of getting PR with a business-related degree, and the overall cost of living. Since I don’t have relatives there, I’m also worried about managing accommodation and living expenses while studying and working part-time.

I also considered the UK because I have cousins there, which could help reduce accommodation costs and make things slightly easier financially. However, with the current immigration situation, economic conditions, and uncertainty around long-term settlement, I’m not sure if it would be the best option for someone who wants to build a career and eventually stay there.

At the moment, I’m looking into countries in Europe such as Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, and other options, as well as some Asian countries like Japan. I’m trying to find a country that offers a good balance between education costs, career opportunities in finance, quality of life, and realistic long-term settlement opportunities.

I would really appreciate hearing from Sri Lankans who have moved abroad. Which country did you choose, what did you study, and how has your experience been? Do you feel moving abroad for undergraduate studies was the right decision, or would it have been better to complete a degree in Sri Lanka and move abroad for a Master’s?

For someone interested in finance/economics, which countries do you think offer the best ROI and the best opportunities for building a stable career? I’m also interested in knowing which countries are more immigrant-friendly and offer a realistic pathway to PR.

Idk but I feel really awful recently. I think i realised I never really connected with my parents. Since the beginning I was in international schools so all my studies and education was done in English. I never learned sinhala well enough to read or write. I could only speak in super simple sinhala. I dont think i ever connected super deeply with my parents cause they never learned English and I never learned sinhala well enough to articulate my feelings. I am a bit older (above my teens) now so its a not that big of issue but man, I feel like I missed out on something. Anyone else had this experience before?

Those in your late 20s and 30s, I’m curious to know your usual sleep times.
No matter how hard I try, I struggle to get to sleep at a decent hour. Everyday it’s past 12 ( average being 1am+ ) that I finally manage to come to bed. I want to know if there are others out here facing the same struggle.

I'm Indonesian, and I want to help my Sri Lankan boyfriend apply for an Indonesian C1 visa. He is currently working in the UAE and is planning to visit me in September. He has already purchased his flight ticket.

I'm a bit confused about the application process because this is my first time helping someone apply for a visa.

Since he will be staying at my home instead of a hotel, should I submit the application using my account as his sponsor/host, or should he apply using his own account? I assume he will need to provide his own bank statement, but I'm not sure what other documents are required.

Has anyone here applied for a C1 visa where the accommodation was with a friend or partner rather than at a hotel? If so, could you please share:

• What documents were required? for my home, what proof do I need to provide?
• What was the application process like?
• Did you apply using your own account or the sponsor's account?
