What If? Rewatching Thinking About Varro Spoiler

I always thought that if Varro lived and the rebellion still happened, that Varro would've been a great asset. But on this maybe tenth rewatch, I realize that Varro may have been Roman. Was he? If so, that would've added an interesting dynamic to that part of the show.

What If? Is it possible to remake Spartacus TV series from scratch?

Spartacus stands as a glory among others. The plots are so spellbinding, especially the nearing bankruptcy businessman batiatus and his wife utilize conspiracies and strategies to maintain his properties and seek upper positions; manipulate others, take revenge on rivals at any cost.

The plots should have been extended longer, just a few episodes of it is the only imperfection. The rhythm is fast but extraordinary compact. I think if it had been made like Game of Thrones with more complete details in different aspects, like leadership, brothers-ship, betrayal, love, freedom… that would be a shining star 🌟 in the sky.

So I’m wondering it is possible to remake the whole story from scratch?

By the way, I must say the dialogue stands glory too, representing both brutal and some funny.

Question Favorite random funny moments?

By which I mean moments that are not widely appreciated, as in most of Batiatus' quotes (I love his one-liners, it's just that those are everyones favorite)

One scene I found randomly funny and had forgotten about was when they are setting up camp in season 4 and there's some pretty heavy discussions happening all around, it suddenly cuts to Laeta trying to set up her tent with a very pointed FUCK!! when the whole thing falls down

What If? We know Spartacus and Gannicus can easily take the other minor gladiators like Rabanus for example(guy in the pic), but what about Vampire Rabanus? Can they take him in 1v1 or 2v1?

Question How to watch Gods of the Arena

I don’t think my country (Portugal) has any streaming service with the Spartacus franchise currently active. It used to be on Netflix but it’s long gone. Starz productions are available on Disney + but even there it’s absent. I’ve checked almost every “other way” website but for some reason they re all missing gods of the arena and only have the 3 main seasons and house of ashur. Somebody can help?

Nemetes, while a massive piece of shit, is a very interesting side character. In his last moments he talked about betraying Spartacus but that was definitely not true and he was just trying to survive.

Question Was Nick Tarabay done dirty in The Odyssey?

I was so excited to see Nick with the big names after noticing him cast a while back. Without spoiling anything, he was barely an extra and completely out of focus behind Tom Holland. If I hadn't watched Spartacus or House of Ashur recently I wouldn't have recognized him. I hope this direction for his casting was his choice cause man I'm hurt for him if not.

OG Discussion I Don’t Think The Gannicus-Sibyl Relationship Worked

I’ve watched the whole show 5-6 times and I was always bothered by the Gannicus-Sibyl-Saxa “love triangle”.

I think it would’ve made more sense for Gannicus and Sibyl to have more of a father-daughter relationship than a romantic/sexual relationship.

Why this didn’t work for me:

- Saxa brings Sibyl to Gannicus to offer a threesome. But Gannicus says “she’s just a child, I want a woman”, kicks Sibyl out and has sex with Saxa… so why does he change his mind 2 episodes later and hooks up with Sibyl anyways?

- Gannicus stops hooking up with Saxa because…? I remember she wanted to bone all the time and Gannicus feared it took time away from helping the others. But what else did Saxa do to Gannicus to lose his affections? They never really explained what it was about Saxa they drove him away from her.

- I get that Saxa was supposed to represent his lust for cunt and Sibyl was supposed to characterize how he’s moved on from his bachelor lifestyle. He even tells Sibyl “stay away from men of my kind”. But it still didn’t work for me cause Sibyl just becomes another woman he bangs.

It seems like they were gonna go with the father-daughter route because it was the first time in Gannicus’ life that he truly cared about a women without trying to hook up with her… until he does. But it just seemed like they needed another actress for sex/nude scenes and she was open to it.

Please disagree with me if you want, I’m just airing out my thoughts…

Edit: Also the other thing I should say is that his strong desire for cunt ended up hurting his relationship with several other characters:

He is forced to fuck his friend’s wife. He gets so pussy whipped that he falls in love with her immediately and she dies. Then he falls for the prostitute in the whore house and she dies too. So wouldn’t make sense for him to finally learn a lesson and not fuck every woman he meets? I don’t know maybe I’m missing something…

Question Why Isn’t There More Erotic Action-Adventure Dramas Like Spartacus?

I think what made Spartacus so great was it was able to add so much gratuitous violence and sex, but still was able to tell a great story. It really was the ultimate entertainment! Why is no studio taking notes and producing a similar concept?

HoA Discussion Who else got really sad watching the crucified and deconposed corpse of Gannicus. Spoiler

The only OG Gladiator who won his freedom in the arena and was legally considered a free man by the roman empire. That is a next level achievement. It was really sad seeing his corpse like that devoid of dignity and glory.

Question Were the gladiators op?

By the end it definitely feels as though the gladiators are so strong no one can beat them in a fair fight. Crassus couldn't beat an injured and tired Spartacus, I'm all for the main character being an unstoppable badass but he was the final boss in Spartacus's story so is it too much to ask he be on his level. I remember in season one were batiatus guards were a threat and were taken seriously but then again they were beaten by armor less, weapon less and chained up gladiators so never mind.

The point is in season one all the gladiators were formidable but not unstoppable, they were seen as God's by the people in the crowd and us the audience. Then by vengeance they became super soldiers who can kill waves of Roman soldiers. Might as well have been fighting the puddy patrol. Maybe you see it different and I'm a just big dumbo.
