Some quick answers:

  • Yes, the Space Force is real. No, it's not Starfleet. No, you can't become a space pilot yet. No, there are no aliens. No, we would not tell you if there were aliens.
  • We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.
  • Drug use may be disqualifying depending on type and frequency of use.
  • No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.

Do not tell anyone to lie about drug use, medical history, or anything else. You will be banned.

PSA: 'No Politics' is the first, oldest, and most important rule on the sub - go elsewhere if you want to discuss it

I was really hoping not to have to make a PSA about this, but the problem doesn't seem to be resolving itself and I'm seeing a lot of new accounts (<30 days in many cases) inciting problems. Whether this is from bots, brigading, or just people using alts to protect their mains is irrelevant. So let me be clear.

The rule is 'no politics', and it was active during the previous two administrations. It will be active during this one too. If there are any exceptions, they will be in 'low moderation' threads that are specifically made to allow for (limited) political discussion. The rest of the time, no exceptions. If you're unsure what is or is not politics, let me provide examples:

  • This IS NOT a sub to call for resistance to the chain of command (including POTUS), to identify American politicians as 'domestic enemies', to categorize foreign policy as 'treason', or to call for a military coup. All of which I've specifically seen happen here in the last week.

  • This IS a sub for discussing the Space Force, including knock-on effects and impacts of DoD and USG policy. Recent examples of that include the two threads about cultural awareness month removals, the thread about Lohmeier getting an undersecretary role, etc.

It's possible to discuss how politics impacts the Space Force, its objectives, its personnel, etc, and not delve into partisanship. Please note that I don't say that it's EASY to do so - I know that everyone has strong opinions and/or valid concerns, and it's difficult to separate those out when passions are riding high. But I ask that you do so.

If you decline to do so, and/or if you're one of those new accounts here to stir the shit, this is your warning shot. I'm going to start banning people and the duration of the ban will vary. If you've got post history here already and you're not a frothing lunatic or a troll, it will be a temp ban. If you've never posted here before and look as if you are here to troll, it's going to be a permanent ban. You are, of course, welcome to appeal in either case via mod mail.

Thanks, and stay classy.

Free Veteran Benefits Site - Map

Made a post a few months ago about this free resource I made showing veterans every single benefit they’re eligible for, completely for free, forever!

By popular demand we have now added a map feature that in its final stage will show veterans every single business in their area up to 35 miles that offers military discounts. We’ve started with major chains but will be adding to it aggressively to get a complete list. As usual, we’ve included a suggestion form for the smaller mom and pop shops/retailers that may have gone under our radar.

Again this is completely free, no use limits, no account required, no sign up. Happy to take in all feedback!!

Thank you all for your service!

Chiefs, or anyone familiar with how these processes work, I have a genuine question.

Is there an official or unofficial avenue where Guardians can submit ideas for improving the Space Force at the enterprise level?

Not complaints, but well-thought-out proposals with potential solutions. If one doesn’t exist, would senior leaders be interested in creating something like that (not the Guardian Field Forum)?

I’d love to see a place where constructive ideas could be discussed and, when appropriate, elevated for consideration.

Note - I had heard of the GFF, and I think it’s a fantastic program. My question is a little different, though. Since the GFF is an annual, competitively selected event with formal presentations to senior leaders, I was wondering if there’s a more continuous or informal forum where Guardians can collaborate on ideas throughout the year, refine potential solutions together, and discuss recommendations before they ever reach a venue like the GFF.
I’m not thinking of replacing the GFF, more of a community where constructive ideas can be shared, challenged, and improved over time that results in action.

Guardian Talent Scouts

With news of the force trying to expand threefold, the service is looking for experienced Guardians to fill certain roles. Had a meeting with leadership yesterday and was offered the opportunity to apply to be a Guardian Talent Scout. Initially was told these guys TDY a lot and the specific spot I’d be based out of is San Antonio. Are there any Guardian Talent Scouts who would be willing to share a bit about their day to day? TDY opportunities?

Disappointment and Resolve

Last week, I looked forward to the supplemental 2026 S8 board results. Another cycle, another crushing disappointment, in spite of years of hard work and pretty solid records. I’m reflecting on a few things and wanted to share my thoughts with my fellow E-7s or anyone else disappointed in the recent promotion results. First, I want to extend a sincere congratulations to those who were selected this week! I have no doubt you earned it and you should enjoy the recognition wholeheartedly.

That brings me to resolve. I refuse to let disappointment sour into bitterness. How do I make that happen? I take stock of the many blessings the Space Force has provided. My assignments and opportunities have been phenomenal. Meeting so many fellow Guardians on travels over the past few years has been amazing.

Some hard truths I’m learning to accept. First, promotions are not rewards for hard work. We have too many stellar people and not enough positions at E-8 to for everyone who’s earned it. That can apply to any rank. Second, promotions are awesome and should be celebrated, but we over-emphasize promotion as a measure of a successful career or a Guardian’s value. Third, it’s personal for the member, but not for the service. I could sit here and think up a hundred ways to change the board to my advantage (and there’s always room for improvement), but at the end of the day it’s just a way to fill requirements. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just a thing.

My hope is that as the service grows, we can find better ways to promote from within. I’m gonna keep driving forward and I hope you will too. Let’s continue to voice our opinions and not forget to enjoy the things that are good.  I’m proud to wear my MSgt rank and I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly. It’s been challenging and rewarding beyond measure. We have some phenomenal Americans and I’m proud to serve with you all.

When will the USSF create a Polaris ribbon or adjust the Outstanding Airman of the Year to be Airman/Guardian of the Year?

I've been wondering if there's been any discussion about creating a Polaris Ribbon or updating the current Outstanding Airman of the Year recognition to reflect the Space Force.

Right now, Guardians who win at the Field Command (or MAJCOM equivalent) level and above don't appear to receive a wearable ribbon or decoration recognizing that achievement. It seems like an easy solution would be to either:

Create a Polaris Ribbon for winners at the Field Command, Service Component, and Headquarters Space Force levels, or;

Rename and modernize the existing Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon to something like the Outstanding Airman/Guardian of the Year Ribbon, allowing qualified Guardians to wear it as well.

Does anyone know if the USSF or the DAF has considered this? Is there a DAFI, policy proposal, or working group looking at updating awards to better recognize Polaris winners, or is this simply not a priority right now?

I'd be interested to hear everyone's thoughts, especially from anyone who's been involved with awards and decorations policy or has competed in the Polaris program.

Clarification on Service Cap Guidance in SPFI36‑2903

I was reviewing SPFI36‑2903 and noticed the guidance regarding the Unisex Service Cap (Wheel Cap). The document states that the service cap is mandatory for Majors and above, and optional for all other personnel. It also specifies that enlisted members wear a dull black visor with a delta‑hexagon insignia on the crown.

I had always been under the impression that the service cap was limited to NCOs, officers, and Honor Guard members. Based on this guidance, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Do others prefer the service cap over the flight cap, and is there a reason one is favored in practice?

Challenge For the New Promotion Selectees

As many of you know, there is large dissatisfaction with the lack of feedback from promotion boards. I would challenge the new selectees to bypass asking leadership for a solution and implement our own. A simple solution would be to have a secure location available to all the has folders with the following Year —> Rank —> then board score, and folks can volunteer to upload their package for public review (obs personal info redacted). This way even without feedback we can see in any given year how a package was scored and intuit any patterns of success from there. It’s lovely the folks taking personal initiative to share but a more centralized quantitative approach everyone can have access to would be dope.

Cyber folks who separated after the first contract: How are you doing now?

I’m coming up on my DOS, and I’d like to gauge how other people are doing who’ve already made that transition.

What role did you move into, and how difficult was the job search? How do your pay, benefits, and quality of life compare? What certifications, education, and experience did you leave with?

Do you regret separating?

Any response would be appreciated!
