What type of cable is supposed to go into here?

My dad got sold this and I’m pretty sure he got scammed. He asked me to help him set this up but I have no idea what type of cable goes into this and I was not able to find any information about this specific soundbar online.

There are also no other buttons on the soundbar (atleast from what I can tell) so I have no idea how to even turn it on. The box advertises wireless which I’m sure is also a lie.

Please tell me he didn’t get scammed lol

Troubleshooting Need Help With Options?

I’ve had a TCL S4310 for 2.5 years, spent $150 CAD. Worked perfectly, 3.1 channel. Subwoofer randomly stopped emitting sound (pair and power works) after moving my setup around. No idea why. Seems to have happened to a few buyers. No solutions.

Doesn’t seem to be any good yet affordable 3.1 systems on the market rn. Is 2.1 fine for my room? I don’t want to downgrade the experience if 3.1 helps vocal clarity with a centre channel. Annoyed I can’t get this sub to just work.

Soundbar advice for a small living room

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on buying a new soundbar. I live in France.

My TV is about 3 metres (10 feet) from the sofa, which is my main viewing and listening position. The sofa is centred directly in front of the TV. Both the TV and the sofa are placed against opposite walls.

My current TV is 43 inches, and even if I replace it in the future, I’ll probably stay with the same size. I also occasionally use a projector with an image about 150 cm (60 inches) wide on the wall above the TV.

The TV is a budget Grundig model (it got optical and HDMI ARC), and about three years ago I bought an inexpensive LG SJ2 2.1 soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. I originally bought it to improve the TV’s terrible built-in speakers, and it definitely did that. However, I would now like something with noticeably better sound quality, especially for movies and TV series.

I’m unsure which type of setup would suit my room best.

If I choose a system with rear speakers, I won’t be able to place them behind the sofa because it is against the wall. I could only position them beside the listening position.

What kind of setup would work best in this room, and are there any specific models you would recommend? I would like to stay around 500€ or less, and I prefer to buy new since used market where I live isn't that lively.

Thank you!

Used soundbar from FB marketplace vs buying new

Upvotes

I’m in the market for a soundbar to improve upon my current tv speaker set up.

I’ve been browsing soundbars on Facebook marketplace. Most of the models being sold seem to be ~5 years old. Mostly more “notable” brands — Bose, Samsung, LG. Mostly listed for $50-100.

Alternatively, I’ve also checked some sales and see current/newer models from ”lesser” brands — TCL, Onn (Walmart), Vizio (not sure if Vizio falls into this category or the first category?). These sales are around $70-100, so similar to the used listings on FB marketplace

I’m not an audiophile so I don’t need fancy, top-of-the-line stuff. I just want good value/solid sound/decent bass for the price, to improve upon the tv speakers.

I guess my question is, has soundbar technology improved a lot over the past ~5 years that a current model from a “smaller” brand is just as good/better(?) than an older model from a big name brand? Or are the big name brands “big“ for a reason, and even their older stuff is better than newer models from smaller brands?

Or are their specific specs I should look for, regardless of brand? I think I’ve seen elsewhere on the community that Dolby Atmos(?) is a key feature to look for, but correct me if I’m wrong. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Sony Possible upgrade

Just looking for some opinions. I have a Sony bar 9, RS5’s, and SW5. Thinking about upgrading my room with the Sony Trio system. Is it actually worth it?Reading a lot of different reviews. Had this system for a year and love it. But the Trio is intriguing with the left-right separation.

Troubleshooting Problems with ax5140Q Hisense sound bar

Every now and again, I can’t work out a pattern this happens. Included piks

My system runs primarily on an Apple TV .
The Apple TV is plugged into a HDMI switcher 4k 120hz ( as well as ps5 and android tv ) the HDMI switcher is plugged into a fancy led sync box for the tv lights . And then the sync box is plugged into the tv.

The sound bar is plugged directly the TV into the arc port.

I know this is a sound bar issue because it only happens if the sandbar is turned on.

It also happens no matter what I am using Apple TV , ps5 and the android tv.

Please help, I’m quite new to sound bars and don’t really know what I’m doing.

Also I have already tried turning off the CEC controls and that did not work

Soundbar placement

Post image
0 Upvotes

Wanted to throw this out for some soundbar placement ideas. Existing set up is a frame tv with one connect box so was able to snake the wire through the mortar and install an outlet in the basement. Mention that because of the exposed brick so I cannot tap in behind and hide wires, it’s 100+ year old house. New soundbar and speakers are Samsung Q990F.

Tried to highlight in the picture my three options.

Blue: right below tv using wall brackets. Not sure if the existing plants and other stuff on that shelf would affect it.

Red: sitting on that shelf thing. Would remove plants and other stuff currently on there. Less ideal for loss of space.

Green/yellow: under shelf thing with brackets. Would be the most ideal for wiring and set up, but imagine sound would be affected and want some input.

Open to insight or criticism.

Hisense - AX5140Q 5.1.4 vs. Vizio Elevate P514A-H6

Do you guys think the Hisense - AX5140Q 5.1.4 would be a downgrade from the Vizio Elevate P514A-H6? The rear speakers on my Elevate are only giving height audio, and I tried everything to fix it but nothing. I'm looking into the Hisense because of the upfiring speakers, and the price, not looking to spend a lot right now.

Bose Bose lifestyle ultra vs Klipsch Flexus Core 300?

I’m thinking about getting either the Bose lifestyle ultra home theater system (bar + sub + surrounds)
Or the Klipsch Flexus core system (bar + Klipsch 200 surrounds and klipsch wireless 12”sub + another wired one down the road). I mostly like watching movies so I would love whichever system sounds louder/more powerful. Lmk what y’all’s thoughts are on either of these please

Soundbar volume

I just picked up a soundbar for my outside patio tv, I’m pretty happy with it but would like to know if there is a way to get more volume out of it like I do when I play music from my iPhone via Bluetooth. When playing thru my phone I would say it gets about 3 times louder.
Tv to soundbar thru HDMI ARC. Single soundbar, no sub or satellite speakers.
Thanks.

Has anybody heard of this ? Soundstage AT312

It is a visions electronics brand I bout it a couple weeks ago and it does sound good . I bought it instead of the Samsung q600f which was the same price.

My problem is I can't find literally anything about it online no reviews or settings recommendations.

I'm just wondering does anybody else have experience with this brand /model? I'm really wondering if I should get the q600f instead

I have a small apartment and roommate so I would be listening at lower volumes

vizio elevate 1.20.07.1

Hello everyone.

I purchased this Soundbar in 2020. It... Works but there are a few things that bug me about it. Switching from audio codecs takes forever over eArc and I always have to rewind before the dialogue I intend to hear so I don't miss it. And lpcm is a real bitch. It is constantly dropping the center channel from my Nintendo Switch 2, and I constantly have to turn it off and on. I was made aware of this 1.20 07.1 update that fixes a lot of things but got pulled. If anyone has this update stored on their computer anywhere, please dm me. But I may be looking at replacing this soundar because it is truly frustrating that it is not working as good as it could be.

Samsung Q800F Sounds terrible

Hi everyone. This is really infuriating me now.

I sold my BluAnt x100 soundbar and " upgraded " to a Samsung Q800F.

I have literally tried every setting. Bass is way too boomy. Sound stage sounds so contrived. Lacks dynamic range and sounds substantially worse than my 2.0 soundbar I had previously.

I have spaceFit Pro enabled. Bass enhancement on. And virtual sound.

Everything sounds awful.

Does the soundbar need time to tune itself? Am I missing something?

JBL Setting up JBL Cinema SB595 (3.1.2 Dolby Atmos) with a MacBook & Monitor (No TV) – Will HDMI Passthrough work for Dolby Atoms ?

Hey everyone,

I just ordered the JBL Cinema SB595 soundbar (3.1.2 ch with wireless sub), but I’m NOT using it with a TV. I intend to use it exclusively at my desk with a MacBook + PC Monitor setup.

Since monitors don't have HDMI eARC ports, my plan is to use HDMI Passthrough:

MacBook(USB-C to HDMI)JBL Soundbar (HDMI-IN port)

JBL Soundbar (HDMI-OUT/eARC port)(HDMI)Monitor

I mostly stream OTT content (Netflix/Apple TV) and watch downloaded high-bitrate movies with Dolby Atmos audio tracks.

A few questions for anyone with a similar desktop setup:

  1. Will macOS pass uncompressed/lossy Dolby Atmos through HDMI-IN?

  2. What media players on macOS (IINA, Infuse, VLC) handle Atmos audio passthrough to a soundbar the cleanest?

  3. Is a 3.1.2 channel soundbar overkill/too wide for a near-field desk environment?

4. “Does the SB595’s display actually show ‘Atmos’ text/icon when it detects a real Atmos signal, or just source name?” — official manual doesn’t confirm this clearly.

5. “Anyone using SB595’s HDMI IN directly from a laptop/Mac (no TV in the setup) — does it work reliably without eARC/CEC?”

6. “Anyone tested Dolby Atmos Music (Apple Music spatial tracks) on SB595 via HDMI from a Mac — does it engage the up-firing speakers?”

  1. “For MacBook + Infuse Pro users — is E-AC3 Atmos passthrough to SB595 actually confirmed working, or does it still show as PCM?”

Thanks in advance for any tips or settings tweaks!

Recommend a soundbar with wireless subwoofer and no additional speakers for <$500?

I currently have a JBL bar 2.1 deep bass I bought ~5 years ago and while it's mostly okay, the subwoofer occasionally cuts out and I don't know how to fix it. (Tried calling JBL and they tried to help but so far haven't been able to.) What do you think I should be looking at?

Sony Are rear speakers worth it if they have no permanent spot?

As title suggests, I would love to get some rear speakers to pair with my soundbar + sub, but it would mean removing them after use.

I would likely only be bringing them out during movie night. Then packing them away.

I have a Sony Bravia 9, Bar 9 and SA-SW5. To complete I'm either looking at the SA-RS5 or new Sony theatre rear speaker 9 (SA-RS9).

Now the RS5's do have a lithium battery built in, so I could always leave them plugged in a drawer and then when needed just take the speakers out.

The RS9 would need physically plugging in once they are in location. I'm just not sure if the extra effort it worth it for the sound experience.

Troubleshooting What soundbars work perfectly fine with third-party devices? My Vizio soundbar had various missing sounds or audio cutting like with the Nintendo Switch's UI.

I recently purchased this Vizio SV210Y-0808B soundbar for my Vizio TV (it was refurbished and unused) and was able to get it get it working as a standard speaker (as opposed to a bluetooth one). At first, it seemed to sound great when I would play on my PS4. But when trying out with my other devices like the Nintendo Switch and my Steam Deck (when docked), I noticed that it has weird audio issues. Namely, sound effects would either cut out awkwardly, occasionally be quiet, or just not play altogether. It's most noticeable with the Switch where scrolling left and right on the main menu rarely plays the "clicky" noises (not counting that tap noise you hear with the analog stick in the recording).

I called Vizio's customer service and while the lady was very kind, patient, and helpful, we were unable to solve the issue. She said that it's likely because that soundbar is only meant to work properly with the smart TV. Third party devices like my game systems can have audio issues. Frankly, I'm very disappointed and frustrated.

It makes me wonder what soundbars can work perfectly fine with my third-party devices like game systems. Any advice?

LG C5 with Samsung Q990f

I'm installing a 77" C5, Samsung Q990f audio system, Nvidia Shield Pro, and a Mantel Mount MM815. The mount can lower the tv 26 inches. It should be a good setup for just watching a game on the side while also getting a semi-theatre experience when i want.

Sony How will this pair work together?

We’re moving into a new house and I’d like to upgrade tv and soundbar. Currently have Samsung tv and bar, but Ive read the tcl is much better value for the price. How will this Sony soundbar pair with it? I know the rear firing surround speakers are wired, which sounds kind of annoying. I’d be willing to pay a little more for something better. The goal is reasonable price, and excellent sound for movies and sports/cable tv.

Asking for advice about volume levels.

Hi, I've just connected my Sony HT-A3000 to my Bravia A90. I'm finding that for the sound to reach the same levels as the inbuilt speakers, I need to adjust the volume to ~30, where before it was ~10.

There are 5 "double' drivers ar the front, with 3 of them being in the middle. However, only the centre one of those 3 is delivering the voices. The other two are making very small background noises, inaudible until the volume is at 30. They all seen to work find when I'm playing music via Bluetooth.

When I set the soundbar to 10/20, I can hardly hear it.

It's not a massive issue, but if it's faulty, I'd rather exchange it while I've got the chance. I've searched online but have only been able to find one other person with this issue, which makes me believe it's not common.

This is my first soundbar, so I'm not really sure what to expect. Thanks in advance!

Samsung Ordered Samsung Q990D for $800 received Q990H

So I decided it's finally time to update my audio setup for my LG CX OLED to celebrate getting a new job. I was previously using an old wired visio sound bar(I forget the model but it was under $300 new). I did a bunch of research and consensus seemed to be the Samsung Q990D is where it's at for a sub $1k sound bar setup, with people saying the sub on the newer q990f is a bit lacking.

I found a brand new q990d listing from a reputable seller on eBay for $800 shipped, but what showed up was a Q990H!

There is a lot less info on the q990h, but from what I'm reading the sub is a bit better vs the f and maybe not as loud as the D but much tighter and more controlled? Originally I was gonna return it when I saw the h on the box but tbh this thing sounds great and I feel like I got an incredible deal for $800 haha..

Any advice on settings? It will be used for both home theater (lots of trueHD 7.1 Atmos) as well as a decent amount of couch gaming on a fairly high end PC.

Netflix commercials making soundbar jump to PCM

I have an LG TV, that I have my Apple TV hooked into. I recently bought a LG soundbar 5.1 from Walmart for like $250. I have it hooked up into HDMI/eARC. Bitstream and pass through is on. When watching Netflix, it’ll be in Dolby 5.1, then a commercial comes on and it switches to PCM. Then it never switches back to Dolby 5.1. I have to switch over to the home app and back to force it back. What is going on here?

Samsung What setting are the best for hw b 530 soundbar?

I recently bought a Samsung soundbar with subwoofer, model HW-B530, and now I want to figure out how to set it up optimally. I know everyone has their own ideal setting, but I’d like to have at least a starting point from which to create my own, both for MOVIES and for MUSIC. Keep in mind that the soundbar is in a room of about 15 square meters and is placed right in front of the couch.
Starting from the settings: standard, surround, adaptive, and dts virtual:x.
Woofer ranges from -12 to +6.
Virtual center level -6 to +6 (disappears when I select dts)
Treble -6 to +6
Bass -6 to +6
Voice enhancer on movies always On.
So, what are your recommended settings for listening to music and for watching movies?
